Damien Comolli is setting up a plan to sign Dimitri Payet from his former club St Etienne.

The 24-year-old French winger is valued at around ￡9 million, however Comolli has already started negotiations to take him to Anfield with an opening bid of ￡6.5 million.

TalkSport Radio are reporting that Comolli has used his connections at his former club to negotiate a good deal for Liverpool in order to continue the rebuilding of the Liverpool squad under Kenny Dalglish.

Payet started his career at Nantes in 2005 before moving to St Etienne in 2007. He has played 134 for his current club and scored 20 goals and provided 14 assists in that time.

Liverpool signed Luis Suarez and Andy Carroll in January and are looking for a winger to provide the strikers with plenty of scoring opportunities.

Meanwhile Paris St Germain and Juventus are also thought to be interested in the winger, although the Comolli connection will mean Liverpool have the best chance of signing Payet.
