Drobga Delays Surgery To Face Arsenal
Chelsea striker Didier Drogba will wait until the Blues' key game against Arsenal before going under the knife.
Reports on Saturday have suggested that Didier Drogba will play through the pain barrier to help Chelsea in next weekend's game with Arsenal.
As already documented, the striker requires surgery on his knee, a procedure that would put him out of action for five weeks.
African Cup of Nations
The Ivorian forward, who is desperate to represent his country at the African Cup of Nations in January, will play no role in Chelsea's next two games, against Sunderland and Valencia, because of the pain he is in.
But the Blues have decided Drogba is a player they just cannot do without when they face the Gunners.
Compromise Struck
The decision is seen by many as a compromise, with the player favouring immediate surgery and the club wanting him to wait until the new year - which would have forced him to miss Africa's international tournament.
Speaking before this weekend's Sunderland game, Avram Grant admitted his player had been in pain for two months. "If he cannot play and needs surgery we will do it. He won抰 play against Sunderland. We hope he抣l be fit whether it is for Arsenal or other games." |
