Journal of Social Issues in Southeast Asia (SOJOURN) Oct 2007

Aku x sempat nak baca full book skrg ... byk keje ... anyway aritu aku ade la belek2 jurnal ni ... aku jumpa interesting research la jugak .... huhuhu ....

Artikel ni bertajuk "Authenticity, tourism and self-discovery in Thailand: Self-creation and the discerning gaze of trekkers and old hands." by Andrew Alan Johnson

basically artikel ni memaparkan research dlm bentuk penceritaan oleh penulis ni yang da lama menetap kat bangkok. ia menunjukkan refleksi sex industry kat thailand yang ada sedikit 'biasness' kot terutama sekali dlm website2 yang promote visit thailand 2007 ke 2006 tah. lupe lak aku. kalo kat website international penulis ni mengulas tourism thailand sgt mempromosi sex industry whereas local website sex industry ni tak disebut lansung sbg industry utama mereka.

dia jugak ade kumpulkan artikel2 mengenai pengalaman2 expat/ pelancong western yg sememangnya dtg ke thailand nak berlibur katanya. termasuklah artikel dr sorg perempuan barat yang menganggap diri dia dah mcm lelaki2 barat yang dtg ke thailand bila dia 'tido' ngn lelaki thai atas dasar mutual consent. pompuan ni terase mcm dia dah jd mcm sebilangan org barat yang dtg ke thailand hny utk tujuan tu la ... hehe

anyway, penulis ni jugak ade menceritakan pengalaman kawan2nya yg bersekongkol dgn wanita thai pd mulanya dan akhirnya amek mereka jd mistress malah lelaki2 barat ni dah dianggap sebahagian drpd masyarakat thai pulak.

tak silap aku artikel sebegini dikategorikan dlm kajian "gender issues".

aku bukan ape ... da lame x bace journal ... tetibe kuar lak research yg sebegini ... tak sangka ianya diiktiraf sebagai research

Just finished Tangle Up in You by Rachel Gibson..

True Crime writer Maddie Dupree returns to Truly, Idaho to delve into the murder that rocked the town 29 years ago, double murder-suicide. What folks don't know is Maddie is the grown up child of the murdered waitress Alice Jones. Maddie hope to write the true story to give her some peace.

Mick Hennessy moved back to Truly a few years back to help his sister with her young son. Meg has not been the same since the murder suicide that changed their lives. The new comer Maddie intrigues Mick, even after he finds out that she wants to write the family history. Mick can't seem to stay away from Maddie.

Maddie finds herself falling for the one person she should not, a Hennessy. As Maddie falls deeper under Mick's spell she hasn't told him the complete truth.

Tangled Up In You should be on every romance reader's list to buy. Maddie and Mick are compelling as friends and as lovers. Their shared past makes them who they are today. This book will stay with you long after you have finished. It is a keeper.

Humorous and Romantic

It Must Be Love by Rachel Gibson

Undercover cop Joe Shanahan has been assigned to tail Ms. Breedlove. Little does he realize that after a week of following her, Gabrielle suspects someone is stalking her. During her morning jog, she attacks her stalker with a can of hair spray, knocks him to the ground and levels her antique derringer at him. Needless to say Gabrielle is handcuffed and arrested for assaulting an officer. The prosecuting attorney is willing to drop the assualt charges if Gabrielle will agree to participate in an undercover police investigation. The investigation of her friend and co-owner, Kevin. When she agrees, Joe is assigned to pose as her boyfriend and work as handyman at the curio shop.

Gabrielle Breedlove ("a name like a porno star" - Joe's quote ) owns Anomaly, a curio-shop who sells antique et al. When her partner, Kevin Carter is under suspicion of stealing the priceless Monet from a prominent public figure, Mr. Hilliard - she finds herself being confined by the zealous eyes of undercover crime property detective, Joe Shanahan. From then on, romance blossoms - with them battling their weird persona, one who believes in karma and psyhic against another who is of pure logic; a pacifist who is a vegeterian and one who is carnivorous and irresistibly sinful.

The secondary characters serve to better define Joe and Gabrielle; Joe's sisters may be annoying and obviously desperate to see him settled down, but they are sweetly eager to show him at his best when they see the chemistry between the pair. Gabrielle's mother breezily predicts the arrival of a dark, passionate lover in her life, but is there for her daughter when Gabrielle's heart is broken and she realizes she loves Joe. This book are full of laughter.. no regret!

finished reading these 2 books last weeks:

the jester - james patterson

You are about to begin the most thrilling James Patterson novel yet. Hugh De Luc returns from the Crusades to discover that his terrifying nightmare has just begun. Merciless killers have slain his young son, kidnapped his wife, Sophie, and destroyed his town in their search for a priceless relic from the Crucifixion. Hugh's quest to find Sophie is one of the most pulse-pounding adventures, mysteries, and unforgettable love stories in all of thriller fiction.

my comment: if you love medieval war book, this is it! even though this is not JP's best (due to different genre), i think this book looks like a braveheart / merlin movie. it combined wars, opression, love, the nobles in one book.

even though i do not love it like other JP's book, it was interesting to note that JP can wrote this kind of book..
this book can be made into a movie, i wonder how it will be turned.
I love that a jester is the hero in this book

Dear Reader,
Have you ever gotten a letter that changed your life completely? It happened to me once. I still can feel the urgency that overtook me as I opened the envelope and the hunger I felt for whatever that letter would say. It seemed as if my entire life hung in the balance as I read.
Sam's Letters to Jennifer is a novel about that kind of drama. In it, a woman is summoned back to the town where she grew up. And in the house where she spent her most magical years she finds a series of letters addressed to her. Each of those letters is a piece of a story that will upend completely the world she thought she knew - and throw her into a love more powerful than she ever imagined could be possible. Two extraordinary love stories are entwined here, full of hope and pain and emotions that never die down.
I hope you'll enjoy this novel as much as I've enjoyed writing it. It's not often that you get a letter that changes your life. But it should happen to everyone at least once.
Yours,
James Patterson

my comment:
also something different from JP.
this is a refreshing book, i love the 2 love stories inside it.
it warmed my heart knowming that jennifer's grandma find true love even though at the ripe age of 60.

and jen's love story is astounding.

these 2 love stories tell us that there are ALWAYS another chance to find your true love

from amazon
"Mine is a story of craving; an unreliable account of lusts and troublesthat began, somehow, in 1956 on the day our free television wasdelivered." So begins the story of Dolores Price, the unconventionalheroine of Wally Lamb's She's Come Undone. Dolores is a class-Aemotional basket case, and why shouldn't she be? She's suffered almostevery abuse and familial travesty that exists: Her father is a violent, philandering liar; her mother has the mental and emotional consistencyof Jell-O; and the men in her life are probably the gender's mostloathsome creatures. But Dolores is no quitter; she battles her woeswith a sense of self-indulgence and gluttony rivaled only by HenryVIII. Hers is a dysfunctional Wonder Years, where growing up inthe golden era was anything but ideal. While most kids her age weredealing with the monumental importance of the latest Beatles single andhow college turned an older sibling into a long-haired hippie, Doloreswas grappling with such issues as divorce, rape, and mental illness.Whether you're disgusted by her antics or moved by her pathetic ploys, you'll be drawn into Dolores's warped, hilarious, Mallomar-munchingworld"

The Wedding Bargain - Victoria Alexander

Book Description
London's most scandalous beauty, Pandora Effington, intends to marry a hero梟ot one of those boring, run-of-the-mill bachelor lords who leave her cold. No, the husband she desires must be someone special, someone whose touch sends delicious shivers down her spine, and who will do absolutely everything in his power to win her love. Someone like . . . Maximillian Wells.
The dashing Earl of Trent cannot believe his ears . . . or his eyes. Here before him stands beautiful Pandora Effington, and the fiery, unattainable heiress is making him a most tantalizing offer. Maximillian can have the lady's hand in marriage . . . if he agrees to play a game of her devising梠ne involving great risk, ingenuity, passion, and determination.
It is a game he has no intention of losing . . .

For me this book is quite boring.. dialogue nyer meleret2.. rasa cam nak jerit je kat heroin nyer "ooohh.. please cut the crap!!"
