Mancini is Barclays Manager of the Month
Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini has been named as Barclays Manager of the Month for October.
The 46-year-old scooped the prestigious prize after leading the club to four straight wins with his team averaging over four goals a match.
City began the month with a 4-0 away win at Blackburn Rovers, before netting another four goals against Aston Villa at home.
TITLE CONTENDERS
The remarkable 6-1 away win against Manchester United really announced Mancini's men as title contenders, while the club cemented their lead at the top of the Barclays Premier League table with a confident 3-1 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers.
In total, Manchester City netted an incredible 17 goals during October, in what has been an extraordinarily goal-heavy start to the Barclays Premier League season.
The decision was made by the Barclays Awards Panel, which includes representatives from football's governing bodies, the media and fans. |

Tevez called Mancini before AWOL
Carlos Tevez made several unsuccessful attempts to contact Manchester City boss Roberto Mancini about flying to Argentina.
That's according to the representative of the Argentinean, who eventually took the trip and missed training.
Tevez travelled to his native country on Monday night to see his family, and while Tuesday was a scheduled day off for the 27-year-old, he was due at City's Carrington training ground on Wednesday morning - but did not show up.
The club have stressed that it had been made clear to Tevez that he would be required to come in, but it seems the striker believes he made every effort to seek permission for his journey home.
A spokesman for Tevez told Press Association Sport: "He tried countless times to speak to Roberto Mancini.
"He was told it was Mancini's decision as to whether or not he could go and left numerous voice messages and texts on Mancini's phone.
"He didn't receive a response at all. He then flew to Argentina and tried to speak to Mancini again yesterday, leaving messages and texts.
"As of this moment we've had no response."
The spokesman was not prepared to comment on when Tevez is likely to return from South America, and City are not yet able to say what punishment the player may face.
The news comes just 24 hours after it emerged that Tevez would not be appealing against the club's ruling that he was guilty of misconduct in the Champions League defeat to Bayern Munich on September 27.
City last month fined Tevez four weeks' wages and suspended him for two weeks - deemed to have already been served - after a disciplinary panel found the former Manchester United man guilty of five breaches of contract relating to his behaviour on the bench during the 2-0 loss at the Allianz Arena.
The Professional Footballers' Association become involved, making an intervention that saw the fine cut to two weeks' wages, and having backed Tevez on that occasion, PFA chief executive Gordon Taylor has expressed his dismay at the fresh turn of events.
"To say the least, I am very disappointed and extremely concerned now,'' Taylor told Sky Sports News.
"To go out to Argentina when - as I have been informed - he was clearly told not to because they (City) needed to work on his fitness, and to blatantly ignore that instruction starts to affect any chance of any reconciliation now.
"The whole relationship between clubs and players is one where there has to be clear understanding of what is to be expected and what is not expected.
"From that point of view, he is making it virtually impossible to have a reconciliation and leaving himself very vulnerable to strong action by the club.
"If he is determined to leave the club, which may well be apparent, then his money value is being diminished by his actions and can affect another club's interest.
"As such, he could be held responsible for that, so it is getting to be a situation that I am not at all happy about.
"Neither are the club of course, and it is one that we will have to deal with.''
Tevez was accused by Mancini of refusing to come on as a substitute during the second half of match in Munich, but the player denied the allegation and blamed a misunderstanding, insisting he had merely refused to warm up - something he thought unnecessary as he had already done so.
He was suspended for two weeks then began training alone while the matter was investigated, and on October 25 City announced they were upholding a charge of misconduct against him based on the panel's findings.
The PFA fought Tevez's corner to get the resulting sanctions reduced, but Taylor is uncertain what now lies in store for the former City captain.
"I have been accused at times of defending the indefensible,'' Taylor said.
"It is very difficult to now be in a situation where we put our heads on the block.
"I do feel very disappointed to say the least that when I was hoping things could move on, it has gone into reverse and now he is left in a position that becomes very vulnerable.
"The lad is digging himself a hole and it is going deeper. It is a worry to me how we can now get out of this.
"He is a human being and a top-quality footballer, but his actions are not what we could possibly recommend to any other player in the game.
"It goes to the heart of the contract and that could be gross misconduct in anybody's language.
"I don't want to predetermine, but I am very concerned because it is a serious situation and one that the PFA are not happy about.''
Tevez's future with City remains unclear, although Mancini did recently suggest the frontman - who was the club's top scorer and skipper last term as they won the FA Cup, but has fallen out of favour since his failed attempt to secure a transfer over the summer - could yet return to the team if he apologises.
Tevez has only made five appearances for City this season, with the last coming on September 21, and he has not been selected by Argentina for their World Cup qualifying double header against Bolivia and Colombia during the current international break.

Manchester City 3-1 Newcastle
There were no chips at Manchester City on Saturday, just another three points for the Premier League leaders as Newcastle's unbeaten record came to an end.
Even City's fans shared the amusement of a club that just announced losses of £194.9million being forced to announce that there would be no chips available at half-time.
The money has been spent on far more productive items though and two of the recent big-money purchases, Mario Balotelli and Sergio Aguero, both scored from the spot in between a rasping finish from home-grown defender Micah Richards, who had an outstanding afternoon.
It maintained City's 100% home record in front of a stadium record crowd, although Alan
Pardew's men could justifiably feel the scoreline did not pay due reward to their own efforts, even after Dan Gosling's consolation.
It was a matter of some satisfaction on Tyneside that Newcastle should head into this three-match sequence which sees meetings with both Manchester clubs followed by an encounter with Chelsea still unbeaten.
Few thought Alan Pardew's men would still be awaiting their first loss in a fortnight's time yet the confidence that has soared with the Magpies made them think anything was possible.
And, if Demba Ba had profited during the visitors' best spell of the opening period, they might well have headed back to the north-east in even more buoyant mood.
Instead, his snap-shot after being set up by Hatem Ben Arfa was turned away by Joe Hart before he glanced a header wide from Yohan Cabaye's corner.
It was Ben Arfa's first Premier League start since he broke his leg in a challenge with Nigel de Jong in the corresponding fixture last season.
The pair have since made up from what Ben Arfa felt was a nasty tackle by De Jong and thankfully there was no hint of a repeat.
It does seem City have moved forward since then both in personnel and a more expansive style.
Yet again, they were the team carrying most of the threat and before Newcastle's purple patch, Aguero fizzed a shot over the bar and Tim Krul produced an excellent one-handed save to deny Balotelli's close range header.
The Blues were still searching for some kind of inspiration when Taylor made his intervention.
He would be correct in claiming he was within close proximity of Yaya Toure's shot five minutes before the break.
However, referee Chris Foy presumably took the view that with his arm outstretched,
Taylor was asking for trouble, which duly came in the form of a penalty when the ball hit him inside the box.
Never one to avoid a bit of drama, Balotelli strode slowly to the spot-kick before side-footing neatly into the bottom corner.
It was the Italian's ninth goal of the season and was celebrated with a folding of the arms and a steely stare.
Taylor's afternoon was soon to get worse as on City's next attack he tried to control Samir Nasri's through ball and turn at the same time.
All the full-back succeeded in doing was allow Richards the chance to intervene.
Mystifyingly overlooked by Fabio Capello, the full-back finished smartly and suddenly City were clear.
To their credit, Newcastle refused to let their heads drop.
But the second-half just brought more anguish in their bid to drag themselves back into the game.
First Ben Arfa drove a low shot against a post after he had nipped in to rob Vincent Kompany.
Then Fabricio Coloccini belted a volley wide after being picked out completely unmarked from Yohan Cabaye's corner.
Finally, Hart denied Guthrie, who has sped into the box and gone for the far corner from an acute angle.
Having come through those trials and tribulations unscathed, it seemed harsh that City should grab another themselves after Ben Arfa had sent Richards tumbling in the box.
With Balotelli replaced by David Silva, Aguero took over spot-kick duties and promptly sent Krul the wrong way.
The sight of Aguero and Toure hobbling off before the end would be a worry for manager Roberto Mancini with Tuesday's must-not-lose Champions League trip to Napoli looming.
And the City boss would not be too happy that Gosling's effort two minutes from time denied his side a clean sheet.

Napoli vs Man City Player Ratings
The bitter taste of defeat for Manchester City and Roberto Mancini after a 2-1 defeat to Napoli.
Napoli
Morgan De Sanctis - 8
Did well to palm away Silva's shot but unfortunately it landed on the feet of Balotelli for City's equalizer. Showed safe hands especially in the second half when City were looking to get back into the game.
Paolo Cannavaro - 7
Was glued to Dzeko the whole game, rendering him useless. Luckily for Napoli, he wasn't replaced earlier or the outcome of the match might have been very different.
Salvatore Aronica - 6.5
His poor clearance resulted in the City equalizer, but eventually picked himself up and did not allow space for the City forwards.
Hugo Armando Campagnaro - 6.5
We seldom see a back THREE these days, but it worked fine for Napoli especially against a City side that scores freely in the English Premier League.
Walter Gargano - 7
The De Jong equivalent for Napoli, working hard to win and keep possession.
Gokhan Inler (57' off) - 7.5
Very accurate ball distribution and barely gave the ball away. Sad to see him leave the pitch holding his back.
Andrea Dossena (89' off) - 7
The former Liverpool man was lively down the left and was involved in a series of one-twos before the assist for Napoli's second goal.
Christian Maggio - 8
Moments after Hamsik hit the posts, he had a glorious one on one opportunity with Hart but just couldn't bury it. His work rate down the right was awesome as he tirelessly ran up and down that flank.
Edinson Cavani (83' on) - 8.5
Very slick touches from the big Uruguayan. Being the first to a corner gave the City defence all sorts of problems and Napoli take the lead in the 17th minute. Didn't take long to score after the restart with a typical Cavani finish.
Ezequiel Lavezzi - 8
Great link up play with Cavani and has an eye for a pass. Was a nightmare for the City defenders all game.
Marek Hamsik - 6.5
Did eveything right but just couldn't apply the finish as he was denied by the posts in the 76th minute.
Substitutions
Blerim Dzemaili (57' on) - 6.5
The Manchester City he faced a few seasons ago in his time at Bolton was a very different one today, but he supported his forwards and kept possession for his team effectively.
Goran Pandev (83' on)
N/A
Fedrico Fernandez (89' on)

Manchester City
Joe Hart - 9
Just like the Bayern Munich game, he single handedly kept the scoreline narrow with a string of fine saves, but unfortunately City could not find the back of the net at the other end of the pitch.
Joleon Lescott - 5.5
Cavani was too hot for him to handle and allowed him too much time and space with the ball.
Vincent Kompany - 6.5
Single handedly dealt with Napoli's forward trio, but it was too much for one man to take.
Aleksandar Kolarov - 6
Looked dangerous every time he went forward although he did leave holes at left back on a few occasions for Maggio.
Pablo Zabaleta (86' off) - 6
The same could be same about his other wing back, potent going forward but leaky at the back. Lavezzi gave him a hard time in the wider areas but he somehow managed to recover.
Yaya Toure - 6
Was all over the pitch covering every blade of grass, but he was too busy in his own half defending instead of being a physical threat in the opposition half.
Nigel De Jong (70' off) - 7
Anchored the midfield well, allowing his fellow midfielders to push forward and pressure the home side.
David Silva - 8.5
Manchester City's King Midas. City look likeliest to score whenever he was involved in the attack but needed that little stroke of luck to score against Napoli's resilient defence.
James Milner - 6.5
Intelligent on the ball and worked ever so hard for the 90 minutes he was on, playing some nice cross field passes and even came back to help Zabaleta in defence.
Mario Balotelli - 7
Was at the right place at the right time to tap in the goal into an open net after his long ranged efforts barely tested De Sanctis. He could have gotten a hat-trick in the second half if not for De Sanctis.
Edin Dzeko (81' off) - 5
Barely worked Napoli's back four and should have been replaced by Aguero earlier.
Substitutions
Samir Nasri (70' on) - 6
An offensive switch from Mancini to chase the game, but the Frenchman could not work his magic this time round and left Naples empty handed.
Sergio Aguero (81' on)

Adam Johnson (86' on)

Liverpool vs Man City Player Ratings
There was certainly no lack of entertainment at Anfield on Sunday as Liverpool and Manchester City played out an enthralling 1-1 draw.
In what will be one of the season's most exciting stalemates, City took the lead through captain Vincent Kompany just after the half-hour mark, only to get pegged back immediately after Joleon Lescott inadvertenly diverted Charlie Adam's strike into his own net.
In a game where almost every player put in a respectable performance, we take a look at the true standouts.
Liverpool
Pepe Reina - 6
Shaky display from the normally-reliable Spaniard, who went walkabout on numerous occasions, leaving his goal completely exposed and was only saved by some alert defending from his back four.
Glen Johnson - 7
Didn't get to attack as much as he would have liked, but Johnson showed against City he has improved one aspect of his game that used to come under criticism early on in his career - his defending.
Dealt well with the threat of City's attack despite coming up against the likes of Samir Nasri, Gael Clichy and David Silva on separate occasions.
Martin Skrtel - 7.5
The only blemish on an otherwise strong showing was when he left Vincent Kompany to be picked up by the shorter Dirk Kuyt at a corner just after the half-hour mark, which resulted in the Belgian defender diverting Silva's corner into the back of the net.
Daniel Agger - 9
Absolutely brilliant game from the Dane, who must be the Reds' best defender when fit. Completely snuffed out the threat of Sergio Aguero with a helping hand from Skrtel, and showed excellent reading of the game with numerous interceptions.
Jose Enrique - 7.5
Enrique put in a complete display without ever truly lighting up Anfield. Solid at the back, and always looked to support Stewart Downing down the left. Put in a couple of dangerous crosses as well, which might have been more damaging had Andy Carroll be on the pitch from the start.
Jordan Henderson - 5
There may be high hopes for Henderson at Anfield, but he is far from the finished article at the moment, and was truly exposed against a side of City's quality.
Perhaps most frustrating was his inability to display basic skills like trapping a ball. Twice Henderson could have advanced on the City defence in a promising position, yet somehow managed to let the ball slip under his foot.
Lucas Leiva - 8
Was awarded the man-of-the-match award after the game, and few would argue based on the Brazilian's performance on Sunday.
Once regularly blamed by the Anfield faithful whenever the Reds failed to get a result, Lucas was a one-man shield in front of his back four, and more than held his own against the bigger bodies of Yaya Toure and Gareth Barry.
Charlie Adam - 8.5
Now probably one of the first names on Kenny Dalglish's team-sheet, Adam backed up on last week's strong showing against Chelsea with another monumental display.
Covered almost every single blade of grass, regularly drifting wide to hassle City's wingers, but was also active in possession, and always looked to play his strikers through on goal. Played his part in Liverpool's equaliser when his hopeful drive from 30 yards out was deflected by Joleon Lescott into his own net.
Stewart Downing - 7
The England international probably would have gotten on the scoresheet on another day if he had worn the right pair of boots, but despite some wayward shooting, Downing was always threat down Liverpool's left, and kept Micah Richards busy all day long.
Dirk Kuyt (off 84') - 7
Made a strong case to his manager as to why he should be starting more often after putting in a tireless shift in attack. Regularly drifted wide to stretch the City defence, and was not afraid to run at his opponent.
Luis Suarez - 6
Spent more time moaning on the ground instead of looking to trouble the City back four with his pace and skill. May have been on the receiving end of a couple of brutal challenges, but Suarez has the ability to take his performances up another level if he just learns to get on with the game.
Still, always looked lively and must have thought he had given his side the winner at the death, only to see his shot from a narrow angle kept out by Joe Hart.
Subs
Andy Carroll (on 84') - 6.5
The towering England striker may still divide opinion among Liverpool fans, but you get the feeling this was one game he really could have made an impact in, especially considering Suarez was struggling against the strength of Kompany and Lescott.
In the six minutes he was on the field, Carroll won every single aerial challenge against the City centre-back duo, and forced a magnificent save from Joe Hart with a powerful header.
Manchester City
Joe Hart - 10
Man-of-the-match by a mile, after keeping City's unbeaten record intact with a series of world-class saves.
The pick of the bunch came in injury time when Hart stretched a firm left hand to palm away Carroll's goal-bound header, only to see the ball fall straight to Suarez, who, despite the tight angle, must have thought he had scored. Instead, Hart showed superhuman reflexes to bounce straight back onto his feet, and made his body big to block the Uruguayan's effort.
Micah Richards - 7.5
Like his opposite number Johnson, Richards put in strong showing at the back, but also managed to get forward on a couple of occasions. If both defenders keep up their displays, England coach Fabio Capello could just have a welcome headache ahead of Euro 2012.
Vincent Kompany - 8
Led his troops by example with a brave showing at the back, and even popped up at the other end to give the Citizens the lead in the 31st minute. There may have been a touch of fortune as the ball ricocheted of his shoulder past Reina, but he showed pure determination to escape the attentions of Kuyt and out-jump Johnson at the near post.
Joleon Lescott - 7
Lescott actually defended relatively well against the ever-dangerous Suarez, but needs to stop sticking his foot out whenever he pleases. That very action led to Liverpool's equaliser when he completely wrongfooted Hart after Adam's initial attempt looked to be going wide, and almost repeated the feat on two other occasions.
Gael Clichy - 7.5
Accomplished display from the Frenchman who must be feeling the pressure to perform, especially with the equally-reliable Aleksandr Kolarov waiting in the wings.
Bombed forward with intent on several occasions, and was surprisingly adept at defending as well.
James Milner - 7
Despite failing to test the Liverpool defence, Milner did plenty of thankless tasks around midfield, chasing after loose balls, and making off-the-ball runs to create space for his team-mates.
Must still be one of the more under-rated players at the Etihad Stadium, despite his international credentials.
Yaya Toure - 7
The Ivorian failed to produce any of his trademark lung-bursting runs from midfield, but he was tidy in possession, and provided was not afraid to snap at the Liverpool players with sharp tackles.
Gareth Barry - 7.5
Excellent first-half when he ran the show for City, although Barry was quieter in the second period.
Samir Nasri (off 65') - 6.5
Still trying to recapture the blinding form he displayed for Arsenal last season, but the Frenchman has already shown he has a good understanding with David Silva. More game time will surely see him back to his best sooner rather than later.
David Silva (off 90') - 7.5
Another lively showing from the Spanish magician, who at times looked like the only player capable of carving open the Liverpool defence. Should have grabbed City's second near the end when he was played through by Edin Dzeko, only to take too long to
Sergio Aguero (off 82') - 6.5
Quiet game from the Argentinean livewire, who was well blanketed by the combined efforts of Agger and Skrtel.
Subs
Mario Balotelli (on 65') - 4
Brought on after the hour mark in the hope that he would steal a win for his side, but Balotelli's involvement lasted less than 20 minutes, after he received his second yellow for barging into Skrtel with his elbow.
Once again showed there is plenty of improvement left in the mental stakes if he is to truly fulfill his abundant potential.
Edin Dzeko (on 82') - 6.5
Looked lively after coming on, and perhaps should have started considering Aguero's ineffectiveness in attack.
Kolo Toure (on 90') - N/A
Brought on late to close out the game for City after Balotelli's needless sending off. |

Man City vs Bayern Player Ratings
Manchester City's 2-0 victory against Bayern Munich was of little use as they were relegated to the Europa League.
By Sham Majid
Manchester City 2-0 Bayern Munich
Manchester City
Joe Hart- 7.5
Was hardly tested throughout the 90 minutes against a sterile Bayern attack but did well to respond to whatever meager chances the visitors conjured.
Vincent Kompany- 7.5
Was his usual reliable self but he probably will not have an easier Champions League outing than this. Swept up whatever Bayern could muster against his side.
Joleon Lescott - 7.5
Like defensive partner Kompany, Lescott had a quiet evening and marshaled the backline well alongside the Belgian.
Stefan Savic- 7.5
Saw a lot of the ball in the first half especially. Made some good inroads into the Bayern half though his crossing at times left much to be desired.
Gaël Clichy- 7
Was never really troubled against Alaba and Rafinha and although he did make some forays to support the City attack, his final ball was disappointing.
Gareth Barry- 7.5
Always made himself available and nearly capped off a good showing with a long range pile driver which was spectacularly saved by Bayern keeper Butt.
Samir Nasri- 8
The French international teamed up well with Silva and Aguero all night with his incisive moves and passing. Pity he will have to demonstrate his undoubted talent in the Europa League from now on.
Yaya Touré (Off 81')- 8.5
The big Ivorian is increasingly demonstrating his penchant for bombing forward and he did just that once again. He started City's second goal and ghosted through to toe poke past a despairing Butt. Undoubtedly one of City's most vital components.
Edin Dzeko (Off 77')- 8.5
The Bosnian was pretty handy in combining most of City's attacking moves and could have registered his name on the score sheet too. Great awareness to flick the ball through for Toure to score City's second.
David Silva (Off 84')- 9.5
A great shame the Spaniard won't be seen in Europe's elite club competition for this season again at least. Unleashed a sensational corker of a strike to draw first blood for City and toyed with Bayern throughout with his skill, off-the-ball running and superb ball control. Brilliant stuff from a special player.
Sergio Agüero- 8.5
The Argentine had at least two decent chances to score and it was only through Butt's sharp reflexes that prevented him from converting. Linked up well with the City attack, especially with Toure's goal.
Substitutes
Nigel De Jong (On 77') -6.5
Could hardly make an impression with the little time he got on the pitch.
Mario Balotelli (On 81')- 6
Super Mario was hardly super this time around, thanks to his little cameo appearance.
Adam Johnson (On 84')- 6
Too little time to make any real impact.
Bayern Munich
Hans-Jörg Butt- 7.5
The veteran goalkeeper can take pride in his performance as he denied City at least another two more goals and kept the score line respectable for the Germans. Could do nothing about Silva's thunderbolt and Toure's crisp finish.
Holger Badstuber- 7
Struggled at times to contain the attacking triumvirate of Silva, Aguero and Dzeko but composed himself after a difficult start to hold the Bayern defence.
Jerome Boateng- 6.5
Not a happy homecoming for the former City full back as he struggled to contain midfielders Nasri and Silva, who interlinked positions from time to time. Tried to get forward whenever possible but had no real support.
Diego Contento- 6.5
Like most of the Bayern players, Contento was well shackled by the City midfield and could not launch any real attacking threats for his side.
Rafinha- 7
Was industrious throughout the ninety minutes and did get the better of Clichy at times but none of the Bayern forwards could get onto the end of his decent crosses.
Anatoliy Tymoschuk- 6.5
The veteran Ukrainian was expected to marshal his midfield but was overrun at times by a rampant City attack. Lacked the necessary guile and imagination to launch any real Bayern offensive threats.
Luis Gustavo Dias- 6.5
The Brazilian midfielder had a quiet outing and was well marked by Barry and company. Improved slightly in the second half but City were already comfortable by then.
David Alaba- 6.5
Tried to inject some energy and dynamism into Bayern's play but like most of his team mates, struggled to get into any sort of rhythm during the match.
Ivica Olic- 6.5
The Croatian grafted hard as usual but lacked the quality or skill to really threaten the City rearguard. Had an off-day like most of his team mates.
Nils Petersen (81')- 5.5
The lanky Petersen was anonymous throughout the encounter with Kompany and Lescott comfortably shutting out the striker. Was never going to threaten against the fearsome duo.
Danijel Pranjic- 6
Produced a disappointing display against the Citizens. Even after trailing 2-0 behind, the Croat chose to knock simple passes instead of finding openings for team-mates.
Substitutes
Takashi Usami (On 81')-6
The Japanese saw a bit of the ball in his short ten-minute appearance but never had enough time to display his precocious potential.

Man City vs Arsenal Player Ratings
David Silva's fluke goal separated the two sides as Manchester City beat Arsenal 1-0 at the Etihad Stadium.
Man City
Joe Hart - 8
The England number one barely touched the ball in the first half, but singlehandedly preserved his clean sheet with a string of fine saves to secure maximum points.
Kolo Toure - 7
Did not let up despite playing with his former team-mates and put his body on the line to protect his keeper and preserve City's lead.
Vincent Kompany - 8
A brilliant display to shackle the flying Dutchman Robin van Persie. Singlehandedly kept him grounded, which is no easy feat.
Pablo Zabaleta - 7
The third choice left-back finally got his chance to shine. Should have killed the game with his 66th minute bullet, but the post got in his way.
Micah Richards - 6.5
His heart must have had skipped a beat when the ball hit his hand in the penalty box.
Gareth Barry - 7
A calm figure among the fancy City midfielders. Inch-perfect ball distribution from him and was responsible for breaking up Arsenal's play.
Yaya Toure (86' off) - 6.5
He was a physical presence in midfield, something which Arsenal lacked. Neat passing and powerful runs down the middle summed up his game.
Samir Nasri (86' off) - 6,5
Despite getting booed by the visiting fans, he worked hard to stretch the Arsenal defence but only showed glimpses of his former self. To rub salt to his wounds, the manager said he needs to improve earlier in the week. Poor boy.
David Silva - 7
Probably the most intelligent City player on the pitch. He knew when to make runs and where to move to, resulting in him scoring the match-winning goal.
Mario Balotelli - 7.5
Just when everyone was expecting some form of entertainment from him, he kept his nerve and was focused on getting the points.
Sergio Aguero - 6
Should have given his side the lead under ten minutes after a flawless City build up but could not apply the finish.
Substitutions
James Milner (73' on) - 6
Was his usual hardworking self after being brought on to pack and suffocate Arsenal in midfield.

Wojciech Szczęsny - 8
His stocks are definitely rising with performances like this week in week out but was really unfortunate to concede a goal in that manner.
Laurent Koscielny - 7.5
Easily dealt with the pace of Aguero and anything that City could throw at him. Only looked slightly troubled when he was sent to right-back after Djourou came off injured.
Per Mertesacker (82' off) - 5
Clumsy and needed to communicate more with his defensive partner. Did not make use of his towering frame to win balls and his "blistering pace" allowed the City players to run circles around him.
Thomas Vermaelen - 8
Made several vital interceptions and was seen in advanced positions when Arsenal was chasing the game. Possessed the left foot of King Midas as the ball looked like it was going in everytime he striked it.
Johan Djourou (47' off) - 6
Could not continue for long after he picked up a left abductor injury, which forced a major reshuffle at the back.
Mikel Arteta - 6
Wenger bought a far inferior Spaniard in comparison to the one he sold and it was evident in this game. It was a huge test for him to get the midfield organized and make something happen, especially when they were behind, but he failed miserably.
Alex Song - 7
Arsenal's most underrated player. Despite picking up a booking early on in the game, his tackles and cover for players were first class.
Gervinho - 7
End to end stuff from Gervinho. Was seen breaking down the left one minute, then back helping Vermaelen in defence in the next.
Aaron Ramsey - 5.5
Had a chance to give Arsenal an early lead but he decided to control the ball instead of directing it goalward. Plenty of ideas but horrible execution.
Theo Walcott (69' off) - 5
Anonymous first half, with his only contribution a fierce long-range drive that tested Hart for the first time in the game.
Robin Van Persie - 6.5
Barely had a sniff of the ball in the box and virtually could not carve a chance for himself the whole game, apart from the one goal which was ruled offside.
Substitutions
Ignasi Miquel (47' on) - 6
Looked unsure of himself in the opening few minutes, but slowly adapted to the pace of the game. Has to pull his socks up, and fast because of the growing number of Arsenal defenders on the treatment table.
Andrei Arshavin (69' on) - 3
He was supposed to come on and make a difference in the game, but his performance was worse than Walcott's. Could this could be his last game in an Arsenal jersey?
Marouane Chamakh (82' on)

West Brom 0-0 Manchester City
Manchester City saw their two-point advantage at the top of the Barclays Premier League wiped out as they were frustrated at West Brom on Monday afternoon.
Mario Balotelli hit the bar and had a goal disallowed but City lacked their usual bite at The Hawthorns and were forced to settle for a goalless draw.
It could even have been worse for Roberto Mancini's men as Albion rose to the challenge and were unlucky when Jerome Thomas hit the post and Shane Long headed wide. |
