Sunderland vs Man City Player Ratings
Substitute Ji Dong-won struck in injury time for Sunderland to inflict a shock 1-0 loss on Manchester City at the Stadium of Light.
Here, ESPNSTAR.com takes a look at the players who took to the field on Sunday afternoon.
Sunderland
Simon Mignolet - 7
Slight shaky start from Mignolet, putting in a couple of weak punches when dealing with high balls. However, the Belgian soon found his feet and made a smart save to deny Edin Dzeko in the first half from point-blank range by making himself big.
Didn't exactly hold on to the many shots fired at him, but he recovered well to gather the rebound before the City attackers could pounce.
Craig Gardner - 8
Gardner made a mockery of the fact that he was playing out of position, showing excellent defensive awareness as he tracked his opponents well all game long.
Made sure the City players knew he was there by putting in a number of crunching tackles, and denied Pablo Zabaleta a clear goal-scoring chance when he put his body on the line to block the Argentinean's blistering effort from a tight angle.
John O'Shea - 7.5
An excellent display by the Republic of Ireland international, who didn't allow anything to get past him.
Wes Brown (off 26') - 7
Yet another injury for Sunderland, and an unfortunate ending to the afternoon for Brown, who was arguably the best player on the park up till his departure.
Hardly gave Edin Dzeko a sniff of the ball, snapping at the Bosnian with sharp tackles, and also made a couple of clever interceptions.
Jack Colback - 6.5
Spent all of the game defending and offered Sunderland virtually nothing going forward. Still, Colback carried out his duties adequately, considering he was also played out of position.
Sebastian Larsson - 7
The Swede didn't provide his usual creativity in the final third, but he more than made up for it by putting in an extended shift in the middle of the park, regularly tracking back to offer a spare man in defence.
Lee Cattermole - 9
Showed what it means to be a captain by sacrificing life and limb for the Sunderland cause. Never gave his opponents a spare moment to dwell on the ball, and did not try to over-complicate matters when he was in possession.
Man-of-the-match by a mile.
David Vaughan (off 83') - 6
Subdued display from Vaughan who is still struggling to make an impact since arriving at the Stadium of Light in the summer.
James McClean - 8.5
McClean remains a fairly unknown quantity in the Premier League, but if he continues to perform like he did against City, it won't be long before he is recognised as one of the best left-wingers in the country.
Was pegged back in his own half for much of the match due to the Citizens' dominance, but on the few occasions he managed to venture forward, McClean showed plenty of pace and skill, embarrassing the City defenders on a number of occasions with his jinking runs.
Stephane Sessegnon - 7.5
Dangerous at times, but was overindulgent far too often. Could have released his team-mates earlier, yet preferred to take an extra touch or two.
However, the Beninese's class prevailed in the second half, as he was a constant outlet for Sunderland when the City piled on the pressure, and it was he who supplied the pass for Ji's dramatic late winner.
Nicklas Bendtner (off 78') - 5
The on-loan Dane could have given Sunderland the lead in the opening minutes, yet looked indecisive after being put through on goal, allowing Joe Hart enough time to rush out and block his effort.
Spent the rest of the game making aimless runs, and if he is to fulfill his true potential, Bendtner needs to realise he is not as good as he thinks he is, and put in the necessary hard work that could see him become a feared striker.
Subs
Matthew Kilgallon (on 26') - 7
Only included in the squad due to Sunderland's defensive problems, Kilgallon showed he could still have a role to play at the Stadium of Light, especially after beating the towering Dzeko in a number of aerial challenges.
Ji Dong-won (on 78') - 7
Brought on with twelve minutes to go and actually looked pretty sloppy with a number of heavy touches, until the game-defining moment in injury time, when he exchanged a one-two with Sessegnon, before rounding Hart and tapping into an empty net.
Ahmed Elmohamady (on 83') - N/A
Brought on late with insufficient time to make an impact.
Man City
Joe Hart - 7
The England number one was only significantly involved at the start and end of the game.
First, he did well to rush and deny Bendtner a clear-cut scoring opportunity by making himself big. However, right at the death, his defence exposed him, allowing Ji to dance around him and score a late winner.
Still, that goal was by no means Hart's fault, and the City custodian once again looked steady whenever called upon.
Pablo Zabaleta - 6.5
Fairly lively showing from the Argentinean, who never missed out on an opportunity to get forward. Could have tested Sessegnon in the second half had it not been for a brave block from Garnder.
Vincent Kompany - 8
As usual, the Belgian centre-back led by example, but it wasn't just his defensive work that was outstanding.
The City skipper charged forward on several occasions, looking to inspire his team when they looked bereft of ideas in the final third.
Joleon Lescott - 7
Considering the lack of goal attempts Sunderland mustered, it's difficult to find fault with the City defence. In all honesty, the result should have been beyond doubt long before Ji had the chance to grab a late goal.
Aleksandar Kolarov (off 67') - 7
A good return from injury by the Serb, who was eventually brought off after tiring in the second half. Showed good drive in the opening period, regularly venturing forward to support his midfielders, and whipped in a couple of dangerous balls from the left.
Gareth Barry - 6.5
Provided a good shield in front of the City backline, but could have offered more going forward. Instead, the England international looked content to let his more attack-minded team-mates do the work in the final third.
Nigel De Jong (off 46') - 6.5
The Dutch international hasn't featured much for City this season, and his lack of match practice showed as he looked off the pace early on, picking up a booking after just eight minutes for a cynical challenge on Cattermole.
It came as no surprise when he was taken off at halftime for the more attack-minded Sergio Aguero.
Yaya Toure - 7.5
The Ivorian was close to being the best player on the park in the first half, offering City plenty of drive from midfield, and got in behind the Sunderland defence on a number of occasions.
However, seemed to fade away in the second 45, but showed enough to suggest Roberto Mancini will desperately miss him when the Africa Cup of Nations starts on January 21.
Adam Johnson - 8
The most impressive of City's attackers. Johnson proved a handful for the Sunderland fullbacks, twisting and turning past some desperate tackles, and putting in a number of dangerous balls into the box.
One still wonders why he does not feature more often for City, considering he is perhaps the only out-and-out winger they have in their ranks.
Samir Nasri (off 55') - 6
Nasri hasn't quite discovered the form he showed at Arsenal last season that convinced City to splash the cash on him.
Showed a couple of nice touches in the first half, but struggled to get into the game.
Edin Dzeko - 4
While the Bosnian struggled to get into the game in the first half, he at least came close to scoring on the few occasions he was presented with an opportunity. First, he reacted well to a loose ball to fire a shot goalwards, only to see it blocked by Mignolet, before he clipped the crossbar with an excellent half-volley.
However, things got from bad to worse in the second period as Dzeko showed why he's currently suffering from a goal drought, displaying a poor first touch on numerous occasions. It wouldn't be surprising if Mario Balotelli lined up against Liverpool in place of Dzeko on Tuesday.
Subs
Sergio Aguero (on 46') - 6
Plenty was expected from the Argentinean as he made his way onto the pitch for the second half, yet Aguero failed to get into the game. His only chance came when he found himself through on goal with only Mignolet to beat, yet he rushed his effort, firing it straight at the Sunderland keeper.
David Silva (on 55') - 7.5
On the contrary, at least Silva had the desired impact in the 35 minutes he had on the field. Glided effortlessly past the Sunderland defenders, and was never wasteful with his distribution, putting in a number of dangerous balls.
Micah Richards (on 67') - 6
Missed a good chance to put City in front when he managed to head the ball against the crossbar when an unguarded net beckoned, after Mignolet had parried a shot straight into his path. |

Man City vs Liverpool Player Ratings
Manchester City cruised to a comfortable 3-0 win over Liverpool at the Etihad Stadium on Tuesday evening.
Sergio Aguero and Yaya Toure gave the Citizens a two-goal lead in the first half, although both efforts could - and should - have been kept out by the normally-steady Pepe Reina.
Liverpool received a glimmer of hope when Gareth Barry received his marching orders after one too many late challenges, but almost immediately, City were handed a penalty after Toure was felled in the box by Skrtel.
James Milner stepped up to the plate, and confidently dispatched the spot kick to seal a comprehensive win for City.
Here, ESPNSTAR.com takes a look at the players who took to the Etihad field.
Man City
Joe Hart - 7
Surprisingly, the England number one didn't look as invincible in the air as he normally does, but he did well to prevent Liverpool from taking the lead early on when he rushed out well after Stewart Downing was put through on goal, forcing the Reds winger to shot into his thigh.
And Hart was back to his best in the second half with an impressive double save, palming away Craig Bellamy's strike from distance, before recovering quickly to block Maxi Rodriguez's follow-up effort.
Micah Richards - 7.5
Richards showed plenty of composure despite his relative youth, never once getting flustered despite pressure from the Liverpool players. He also planned his attacking forays well, bombing forward only when there was no immediate danger at the back.
Kolo Toure - 8
A surprising selection considering his lack of recent game time and Joleon Lescott's excellent form, but the elder Toure justified Roberto Mancini's faith in him by completely nullifying the threat of Andy Carroll, beating him in the air on several occasions.
Vincent Kompany - 9
The Belgian international prevented Liverpool from pulling one back just before the break when he positioned himself perfectly to block Dirk Kuyt's effort from just two yards out.
Kompany then spent the remainder of the game heading clear every cross that came into the box, and was not afraid to bring the ball out of defence.
Gael Clichy - 7
Interestingly enough, the adventurous French left-back failed to offer City much going forward, but was uncharacteristically solid at the back, keeping Kuyt at bay throughout the opening 45.
Yaya Toure - 9.5
While Mancini's side is brimming with attacking talent, with the likes of Silva, Aguero and Dzeko proving devastating up front at times, Toure can stake his claim to being the most important Citizen at the moment.
Regularly caught the Liverpool midfield out with his rampaging runs through the middle, and put his height to good use when he rose highest to nod home a corner for City's second. Was absolutely everywhere.
Gareth Barry - 6.5
Fairly disciplined performance from the England international, showing good positioning in the first half as he broke up a number of Liverpool attacks.
However, he - quite uncharacteristically - looked a little temperamental on the evening, and eventually picked up his second yellow in the 71st minute after committing foul after foul.
James Milner - 8
Solid display from the versatile midfielder, who regularly dropped back to help out in defence, but also helped link up the attack well.
Deservingly got on the scoresheet when he stepped up to smash a penalty past Reina, wrongfooting the Spaniard in the process.
David Silva (off 76') - 8.5
City's playmaker-in-chief was once again at his creative best, laying on two first-half goals that got his side on their way to a comfortable victory.
Showed good awareness for the first when he prodded a pass to Aguero, before putting in a typical pin-point delivery for Yaya Toure to head home for City's second.
Sergio Aguero (off 72') - 7.5
The diminutive Argentinean got off to a lively start, finding plenty of space with his off-the-ball movement, and he got his side off to a good start when he tried his luck from distance, finding the back of the net after Reina allowed his shot to squirm under his body.
Edin Dzeko - 5
Dzeko's poor run of form continued on Tuesday evening as he again struggled to make an impact, looking keener on picking a fight with Martin Skrtel rather than finding the back of the net.
The Bosnian seems to be suffering from a lack of confidence at the moment, and it showed on a number of occasions as he displayed a sloppy first touch.
Subs
Adam Johnson (on 72') - 7
The exciting winger almost capped off his brief cameo by coming close to a goal when he cut inside from the right and fired a delicate shot past Reina, only to see it come back off the far post.
Joleon Lescott (on 76') - 7
Lescott was brought on fifteen minutes from time and he did well at the back, heading clear a couple of potentially-dangerous crosses as City tightened things up with three central defenders.
Liverpool
Pepe Reina - 5
One glaring error and another save he should have made summed up the normally-reliable Spaniard's evening, and arguably cost Liverpool a result at the Etihad.
First, Reina allowed Aguero's shot to squirm under his body, before he let Yaya Toure nod home Silva's corner, despite the effort being rather close to him. Once the Premier League's most reliable keeper, Reina is looking increasingly unsteady between the sticks.
Glen Johnson - 7
One of Liverpool's better performers - Johnson toiled manfully all night long, and also looked to get his side forward whenever he had the chance.
The only blemish on his game was a couple of poorly-aimed crosses, which sailed harmlessly over the City defence.
Martin Skrtel - 8
Liverpool's best player on the night. Skrtel kept Dzeko completely quiet, although he was slightly rash when diving in on Yaya Toure, conceding a penalty for City's third. Still, the game was all but over by then.
Daniel Agger - 7.5
Like Skrtel, Agger actually defended reasonably well, only to have his efforts severely hampered by an inept midfield.
Drove forward on a number of occasions to initiate proceedings for the Reds, especially when the Reds looked completely bereft of ideas.
Jose Enrique - 7
Did well at the back, but couldn't get forward as often as he would have liked.
Jay Spearing (off 76') - 6.5
The underrated defensive midfielder stuck to his task all evening long, and occasionally got the better of the City players with a number of strong challenges. However, he offers the Reds virtually nothing when they're in possession of the ball.
Jordan Henderson - 6
Plenty of improvement still to come from Henderson, who - at times - looked overly keen on playing a killer pass, rather than retaining possession by keeping things simple.
Did put in an excellent through ball early on to send Stewart Downing through, but he spent the rest of the game trying too many fancy touches, and was easily bodied off the ball by City's well-built midfielders.
Charlie Adam (off 57') - 5.5
Another start, another disappointing game from the Scot, who is struggling to be the creative presence Liverpool were hoping for when they signed him from Blackpool last summer.
And with Steven Gerrard back from injury, Adam's place in the Reds starting XI is severely under threat.
Dirk Kuyt (off 57') - 6
As usual, the Dutch international never stopped running but he failed to get into the game, hardly troubling Clichy down the flank.
Could have netted one for Liverpool from close range after Andy Carroll picked him out with a flick-on, only to be denied by a desperate diving block from Kompany.
Stewart Downing - 6
Still no goals and no assists for Downing. While you don't always want to judge a player's impact on statistics, it's easy to see why Liverpool fans are getting increasingly frustrated at the former Aston Villa star.
Should have given the Reds the lead when he raced through down the left, only to fire straight at Hart's leg. Despite beating Richards for space, Downing failed to offer the Liverpool attack any supply from out wide.
Andy Carroll - 4
Is Carroll now becoming an easy target? Not quite, as he once again justified his low rating with an abysmal performance. Won all of two headers despite being a head taller than both Kolo Toure and Kompany, and showed a terrible first touch, handing possession straight to the Citizens whenever he attempted to control a pass.
Subs
Steven Gerrard (on 57') - 7.5
In Dalglish's defence, Gerrard is probably still not back to full match fitness. Yet, the impact he made after coming on was clear for all to see.
The England international gelled Liverpool's attacks together, and peppered Hart's goal with a couple of blistering efforts.
Craig Bellamy (on 57') - 7
Many fans questioned Dalglish's decision to omit Bellamy from the starting XI, and this is one decision the Liverpool boss will have to take the blame for.
The experienced Welshman provided something Downing failed to do down the left after he was brought on - sheer penetration. Bellamy's time spent on the pitch was the only time Richards looked significantly worried.
Maxi Rodriguez (on 76') - 6.5
Maxi remains an interesting proposition for Liverpool - he doesn't get regular starts but he always gets himself into a number of excellent goalscoring opportunities when he takes to the field.
Twice had decent chances to test Hart in the City goal. |

Player Ratings: Manchester City 0-1 Liverpool
The Reds will take a narrow lead into the second leg at Anfield in two weeks thanks to a Steven Gerrard penalty in the 13th minute and a strong defensive display
Manchester City FC
Joe Hart 7.5
Made a string of superb saves in the first 15 minutes, the pick of which came from a deflected Downing volley. Dived the right way for Gerrard's penalty but couldn't quite get to the ball. Had little to do in the second half but his saves may have kept City in the tie.
Micah Richards 7.0
Quite a sight when he bulldozes forward, injecting power and pace into City attacks. Brilliant athleticism but still makes the odd clumsy error.
Joleon Lescott 6.0
Appeared far less confident alongside Savic in the early stages as Liverpool took advantage of sloppy City defending. Improved as the game went on and was strong in the air against Carroll.
Stefan Savic Flop of the Match 4.0
If the Montenegrin is going to play like this in Vincent Kompany's absence through suspension, City may have an even bigger problem that they thought. All over the place positionally and conceded the penalty with an ugly, high challenge on Agger.
Gael Clichy 6.0
Solid defensively, both at left-back and right-back, but offered little going forward as City searched for an equaliser.
James Milner 6.0
Always happy to demand the ball and start City attacks - but lacked a killer pass in the final third.
Gareth Barry 5.5
Happy to stay on the halfway line and try to start City attacks. Needed to show more drive and seemed to be worried about making strong tackles after his red card a week earlier.
Nigel De Jong 5.5
The Dutchman hassled and harried but was ponderous on the ball. His role became superfluous as Liverpool sat deep in the second half and he was replaced by Kolarov in the 72nd minute.
Adam Johnson 4.5
A poor display from the England international. He didn't seem to know what his role was and made the wrong decision almost every time he picked up possession. Replaced by Dzeko in the 66th minute.
Kun Agüero 6.5
A tough afternoon for the Argentine but his workrate never dropped as he continued to make runs for his midfielders. Best sight on goal came when he picked up a loose pass and rounded Reina - but blasted his shot over the crossbar from a tight angle.
Mario Balotelli 5.0
The combustible Italian looked like he would rather be anywhere else and was incredibly frustrated from the first minute. He was either going to get substituted or sent off - and it was the former as he was replaced by Nasri in the 39th minute after picking up an ankle injury
• Substitutions
Aleksandar Kolarov 5.0
Played the final 18 minutes as a replacement for Johnson but was woeful. Almost every touch was a cross or shot that ended up in the back of the stand.
Samir Nasri 7.0
Replaced Balotelli in the 39th minute and looked the player most likely to break down Liverpool's stubborn defence. Forced Reina into action with one effort from the edge of the box and showed some impressive vision.
Edin Dzeko 6.0
Came on for Johnson in the 66th minute. Fired shots at goal from distance but didn't have the guile to open up Liverpool's defence. |

Player Ratings: Wigan Athletic 0-1 Manchester City
Roberto Mancini's men move three points clear at the top of the Premier League thanks to Edin Dzeko header in the 22nd minute of battling performance
Manchester City FC
Joe Hart 7.5
Kept himself warm in the City goal despite the freezing temperatures and proved his alertness with a fine stop - with his foot - to keep out McCarthy's shot. It was his only real action of the game but it might have proved the difference between one point and three.
Pablo Zabaleta 6.5
The Argentine never looked troubled by Crusat as he displayed his defensive instincts. Offered a threat when he joined the attack, particularly at the start of the second-half.
Joleon Lescott 6.5
Continued in his role as leader of the back four in Kompany's absence. Strong and dominant in the air, although Wigan's feeble attack didn't provide too much of a challenge.
Stefan Savic 6.0
The Montenegrin looked a little shaky early on but grew in confidence, showing defensive awareness and a willingness to take on the physical battle.
Gael Clichy 6.5
A solid performance as he showed why he is City's best left-back. Excellent cross early on that Dzeko glanced wide of the post and produced another dangerous delivery that Wigan somehow cleared just after the hour mark.
James Milner 5.5
Efficient passing on the whole but failed to have much impact on City's attacking display. Lost the ball in the second-half as Wigan created a chance for McCarthy - the hosts' best opportunity of the game.
Gareth Barry 6.5
Controlled the tempo for much of the game, especially in the first-half. Picked up loose balls and his passing was always accurate.
Samir Nasri 6.0
Neat and tidy on the ball as he drifted into pockets of space, but seems to be lacking confidence in the final third despite a couple of good square passes in the second-half. Replaced by de Jong in the 74th minute as City looked to see the game out.
David Silva 7.0
The Spaniard returned from an ankle injury to remind City why he is so important to their title challenge. Floated into space and always seemed to have an awareness of the angles around him. Lovely free-kick for Dzeko's goal and forced Al Habsi into action with a firm shot in the second-half.
Edin Dzeko 7.0
The Bosnian ended a run of 11 games without a goal with a powerful leap and precise header in the 22nd minute. Had earlier served a warning when he glanced wide from a tight angle. Offered a physical presence but infuriated City when he took a chance off Aguero's toes - and scuffed his effort straight at Al Habsi.
Kun Agüero 7.0
The most impressive aspect of his performance was the non-stop work-rate as he continually put Wigan's players under pressure. Sharp shot across goal brought a good save from Al Habsi and deserved more after Dzeko took the ball following a superb slaloming run.
• Substitutions
Nedum Onuoha N/A
Replaced Silva nine minutes from time as City went to five at the back.
Adam Johnson N/A
Came on for Aguero in added time.
Nigel De Jong 6.0
Replaced Nasri in the 74th minute. Booked for typically robust challenge on Rodallega and screened the defence well. |

Player Ratings: Manchester City 3-2 Tottenham
A last-gasp Balotelli penalty sealed victory for the Premier League leaders after the visitors had come from two down in this five-goal thriller at the Etihad Stadium
Manchester City FC
Joe Hart 5.5
The England goalkeeper had little to do but still found himself twice picking the ball out of his net. Perhaps a bit rash to come flying off his line for Defoe's goal.
Micah Richards 7.0
The Academy product was named City's captain for the afternoon and responded with a typically robust display. Always dangerous bombing forward as he burst through challenges and created one excellent chance for Aguero in the first half.
Stefan Savic 5.0
Dominant against Defoe for much of the game but awful attempted header put Defoe through for Tottenham's first goal.
Joleon Lescott 6.0
Showed good anticipation to mop up loose balls and powerful in the air, playing mainly as the spare man in defence. Made a big contribution at the other end in the 59th minute as he bundled City's second goal over the line.
Gael Clichy 5.5
Struggled early on as he mistimed a challenge on Walker and was then booked for punching the ball out of the Tottenham full-back's hands as he tried to take a throw.
Gareth Barry 6.0
Neat and tidy display sitting in front of the back four as he started moves with accurate passing and rarely conceded possession.
James Milner 7.0
An energetic performance in central midfield, setting the tone with some crunching tackles, not least a vital last-ditch challenge on Bale.
David Silva 7.0
The Spaniard was anonymous for much of the game by his own high standards but was always looking to unlock the Tottenham defence. He did so in the 56th minute with a brilliant pass to set up Nasri for City's opener.
Samir Nasri 6.5
Responded to stick from the away fans with a superb finish to smash home the opener in the 56th minute. That aside, prompted and probed but didn't have much influence on the game.
Kun Agüero 7.0
His movement and trickery continually worried the Spurs backline as he prowled in the hope of an opportunity to score. Tested Friedel in the first half with a stinging effort.
Edin Dzeko Flop of the Match 5.0
The Bosnian came into the game with happy memories of his four goals the last time City played Spurs, but he found life far more difficult this time as he came up against King. Lost the ball too easily, lacked pace and never offered much of a goal threat in the penalty box.
• Substitutions
Mario Balotelli 6.0
Replaced Dzeko in the 65th minute and scored the winner from the spot deep into stoppage time after winning the penalty himself. Lucky to still be on the pitch at that stage after stamp on Parker. |

Balotelli mungkin digantung empat perlawanan
2012/01/24
- AFP |

Ejen Balotelli dakwa pengadil berbohong
2012/01/25
- AFP |

Balotelli terima dakwaan, mula jalani penggantungan
2012/01/26
- AFP |

Player Ratings: Liverpool 2-2 Manchester City (3-2 Agg)
A late Craig Bellamy goal saw Kenny Dalglish's side through to the League cup final on aggregate, after the visitors came from behind to lead against the run of play
Manchester City FC
Joe Hart 8.5
A stunning display from the England goalkeeper as he produced world class saves to keep City in the game, denying Jose Enrique, Skrtel and Downing with jaw-dropping athleticism. Could do nothing about Gerrard's penalty.
Micah Richards 6.0
Perhaps unlucky to give away the penalty after the ball bounced off his knee and onto his arm - but blocking the ball in that manner cost the visitors. Not always great positionally but showed strength and pace against Bellamy.
Stefan Savic Flop of the Match 3.5
The Serbian had an absolute nightmare against Bellamy, looking jittery from the very first minute. Made a number of weak challenges that could have cost his side and was rightly hauled off at half time.
Joleon Lescott 6.0
Showed good defensive instincts to clear crosses into the City area but was caught flat-footed for Bellamy's goal.
Aleksandar Kolarov 6.0
Defensively vulnerable, especially in the second half, but he was on the pitch to cause Liverpool problems at the back - and delivered with a vicious low cross for Dzeko's goal.
Pablo Zabaleta 6.0
A hard-working, combative display from the Argentine but lacked quality when he got forward.
Nigel De Jong 6.5
Looked as surprised as anyone in the ground after scoring just his second goal for City, a thunderous strike on the stretch from 25 yards. Snapped into tackles in midfield before being replaced by Adam Johnson as City went in search of a goal.
Gareth Barry 5.5
As ever, tidy in possession and good positionally. Sometimes seemed to find the tempo of the game difficult, particularly when Liverpool played long balls.
David Silva 6.0
Drifted into space and looked to create chances for team-mates with clever passes. Faded in the second half and seemed to be carrying an injury in the closing stages.
Samir Nasri 5.0
A quiet, ineffectual performance from the Frenchman. Worked hard and was confident on the ball, but needed more cutting edge.
Edin Dzeko 6.0
The Bosnian was virtually anonymous until he popped up in the 67th minute to tap Kolarov's cross into the net. Served as a reminder of his goal threat but on the whole he was too static.
• Substitutions
Adam Johnson N/A
Replaced De Jong in the 78th minute. One tame shot saved by Reina.
Kun Agüero 6.0
Replaced Savic at the break. Ran his socks off but couldn't find space to fashion a real chance. Late overhead kick saved comfortably by Reina.

Manchester City 3-0 Fulham: Sergio Aguero leads hosts to comfortable victory as they move three points clear at top of Premier League.
Routine win despite extremely snowy conditions at the Etihad Stadium with the majestic Argentine, Edin Dzeko and a Chris Baird own-goal sealing the win for Roberto Mancini's side.
Manchester City continued their 100 per cent Premier League record at the Etihad Stadium this season, recording a comfortable 3-0 win over Fulham.
A Sergio Aguero penalty and a Chris Barid own-goal had put City two up at half-time before Edin Dzeko stroked home a third to give Roberto Mancini's side an easy win in freezing conditions.
Stefan Savic came into the City backline in place of injured captain Vincent Kompany, with Aleksandar Kolarov and Adam Johnson also replacing Gael Clichy and James Milner, respectively.
Martin Jol re-instated Mark Schwarzer to his line-up and opted for Baird rather than John Arne Riise at left-back for the Cottagers, while Clint Dempsey partnered Moussa Dembele in attack.
Roberto Mancini's team started dominantly and had early chances through Dzeko, firing into Schwarzer's arms before flicking over from Gareth Barry's cross under pressure from Brede Hangeland.
The home side had a glorious chance to open the scoring after ten minutes, Adam Johnson jinking his way into the box before going over Baird's outstretched leg. Mike Dean pointed to the spot and Aguero dispatched the penalty with ease.
The Cottagers were struggling to get a foothold in the game with City dominating possession, but they looked to work a way back into the game as Simon Davies' shot low towards goal, but his effort was saved by Hart.
City constantly looked dangerous on the break, with Aguero's play particularly ominous as the Argentine tricked his way into the box and with no Fulham players wanting to make a challenge, cut the ball back to Silva who prodded wide.
Fulham were feeding off scraps, although Duff worried Hart with a searching effort that almost crept in at the far post.
However, City went straight up the other end and doubled their lead. Kolarov's deep cross from the left fell to Johnson who fired the ball back across goal and with Baird unfortunately positioned, the Ulsterman was only able to cannon a deflection past Schwarzer.
The home side had another shout for a penalty moments later as Silva went down under Dickson Etuhu's challenge in the box, with the Nigerian not seeming to contact the ball, but referee Dean declined the hosts' pleas.
Mancini's men continued on the offensive for the rest of the first half but were unable to breach the Fulham backline another time before half-time.
Aguero fires City on their way to three points with early penalty
The west Londoners started the second half better, keeping the ball well but ultimately unable to break down City's defence, with Savic looking much improved from his previously nervy outings.
The home side were also forced into making an early change, Nasri limping off with just eight minutes gone in the second-half, getting replaced by James Milner.
Snow had fallen throughout much of the game, and the groundstaff were summoned to clear the lines of the pitch that had become obscured under a wintery blanket.
As the snow became stronger, the action failed to warm up, although Stephen Kelly almost troubled an off-balanced Hart with a toe-poked effort, before the England number one dealt comfortably with Baird's rifled free-kick.
City were stunned into action, Aguero turned neatly in the box, but saw his shot blocked by Danny Murphy before Kolarov curled a close-range free-kick over the bar.
Soon after, City had their third. Aguero picked the ball up on the left flank, darted into the box, breezing past Senderos and Davies before squaring to the unmarked Dzeko, who tapped home from eight yards.
With the game all but won for City, Mancini brought off Aguero to a standing ovation and replaced the Argentine with Nigel de Jong to shore up the midfield for the final ten minutes.
Fulham continued to chase a late goal, Riise stinging Hart's palms, but they were unable to find the net and City kept yet another home clean sheet as they move three points clear of Manchester United at the top of the table, with the Champions in action at Chelsea on Sunday. |
