They say great things come in small packages.

And Mila is a living proof of such exclamations. Her small frame is the last place you抣l expect to unearth such a powerful voice but the petite lass is the source of the commanding vocals that reverberated through the nation in 2007.

The winner of the fifth season of Akademi Fantasia recently launched her debut album, "ersis Mutiara", after it was released in the market for three months. The eight-track record showcases a gamut of love ballads and quirky pop tunes; we were glad the 19-year-old didn抰 conform to the mould of local ballad-crooners making music that抯 beyond their age.

" Persis Mutiara" carries a very divergent tempo slope throughout the record. It swoops from the whispery and violin-infused "Ilham Dimatamu" to the upbeat anthem-like "Mila Bila Cinta" and back to the leisurely love ballad " Pergi Mu". The soft guitar riffs of the latter make it a sure-fire hit ballad in the local charts while "Mila Bila Cinta" sees her embracing her youth with kiddy beats and eyelash-fluttering lyrics.

"Aku Lebih Tahu" is interesting and sticks out in terms of character. It抯 an unusual contemporary track in comparison to the local mainstream pop music with a quirky tone, folk-guitar sounds, and flirty vocals. Another noteworthy track is "Gila", which reminds us of 90s commercial pop music by Elite and Feminin and a little bit of Britney Spears
