KLINSMANN DEFENDS CHANGES

Bayern Munich coach Jurgen Klinsmann revealed tiredness was behind his decision to take off fans' favourite Bastian Schweinsteiger in the 65th minute of Friday's Bundesliga opener against Hamburg.

Klinsmann gave Tim Borowski his Bayern debut for the final 25 minutes with several boos greeting his choice of removing Schweinsteiger, but the coach justified his decision.

"Bastian is not fully fit and, after an hour, he was having a few difficulties," explained Klinsmann after the 2-2 draw with Martin Jol's team.

"I wanted some fresh legs and knew (Andreas) Ottl would be able to get a few more touches of the ball in midfield.

"We have all our players at different stages of fitness and Bastian started training particularly late and has even been ill, so has Borowski, who was injured and (Luca) Toni and (Martin) Demichelis have been out longer."

Klinsmann then stunned the Allianz Arena with another tactical change, this time removing Germany striker Miroslav Klose to award 18-year-old Thomas Muller his Bundesliga debut with further boos echoing around the stadium.

This time, however, the disapproval appeared to be aimed at Klose's lacklustre performance, but Klinsmann jumped to his defence.

"Miro has played all of Euro 2008 and simply is not at the level that we want him to be at," he said.

"This is only the first Bundesliga game and he is probably only halfway ready, but it is normal at the start that we are not working harmoniously."

Bayern captain Mark van Bommel refused to give this as an excuse for the draw, but said it was one of "many reasons put together" which meant his team were not yet firing on all cylinders.

"This is an improvement on (the DFB-Pokal first round game against) Erfurt, so we are happy with that," he said.

"When you lead 2-0, then it is not good that we didn't win, but in the end, it is not all that bad."

awal lagi....nampak sangat karat...tapi semalam nengok hamburg main cantik gak...trochowski was all over d midfield..guerrero looked like he had something to prove to bayern...

looks like hamburg doesn't need vdv after all

i think it's about the same case with manu & arsenal, teams that depends on teamwork rather than their key players but other people doesn't see that way because of exceptional individual performance in certain season such as cr7 last season and rvn before. even without them manu's still can perform brilliantly like the charity shield game, 0607 season saw only the goalkeepers didn't score any goals at manu, and arsenal did well last season when their talismanic captain gone

trochowski ni midfielder kiri...tapi die ni suke drift inside...so kiri ni susah sket la die nak main utk germany...unless if lowe decide to push podolski back up. ekceli, germany memang xde natural left winger kan? euro aritu sape left winger yang ade dalam squad?

true...very true...same case with arsenal in henry's final season. kalo ade sorang key player in a team, other players tend to expect the key player to create, give them something and win the game for them. but when he is gone, u cant rely on him anymore. so kene usaha sniri...n looks like trochowski has stepped up to d plate.
