Friends shocked, confused over apparent suicide of young pilot-musician

PETALING JAYA: AirAsia staff and musicians are mourning the loss of retrenched pilot and multi-instrumentalist A Sanjiv Daevin, 35, who apparently took his own life on Monday.
They are shocked, confused, and heartbroken over Sanjiv’s fall from the 12th floor of his condominium in Bandar Kinrara, Selangor.
His close friends told FMT Sanjiv had shown no signs of stress or depression when they met with him recently.
However, police, in ruling out foul play, said statements recorded from people dear to Sanjiv revealed that he had been under much stress.
Sanjiv was flight captain when he was laid off, together with about 100 pilots, by the airline in March when the Covid-19 lockdown was enforced.
He joined the AirAsia Academy in 2007 and moved on as a flight officer in 2012 before becoming a captain.
A senior AirAsia staff said Sanjiv was in the office last week to get a reference letter and that he seemed “very okay”.
Another employee said some cabin crew members met with Sanjiv at a club on Sunday and that he seemed normal.
Veteran musician Eddie Zachariah said his fraternity was at a loss for words over Sanjiv’s death.
“As a pilot, he was trained to handle tough situations and had so much to live for,” said Zachariah, a keyboardist and pianist.
Zachariah said Sanjiv’s father told him yesterday that his son had no debts, save for some small overdue payments.
“His father told him not to worry as he would settle the payments for him,” he said.
He said Sanjiv was a talented musician who played keyboards, piano, violin, bass, guitar, and drums.
Zachariah first met Sanjiv who was 17 when he joined the Aseana Percussion Unit (APU) band.
Sanjiv replaced his pianist/violinist sister, Sujatha, in the band after she left for Berklee College of Music in the US.
APU band leader Edwin Nathaniel said Sanjiv taught piano, bass and violin at his Music Mart school in Petaling Jaya before he joined the AirAsia Academy.
He said Sanjiv was a “friend to all” and played an important role in the growth of APU and that music students adored him for his teaching skills.
Nathaniel said there was no indication that Sanjiv was depressed when they met recently.
He said Sanjiv had many talents including fluent spoken German, a language he learned when he was in Germany for a year as a foreign exchange student.
Sanjiv’s remains were cremated at the DBKL Crematorium in Cheras this afternoon. |

Well............aku beli tanah bukan niat nak jadi petani. Sebab aku orang bekerja instead a professional job (nanti korang kata aku brag). Without tanahpun aku bolih survive. Tapi aku pegang satu kata2 mutiara arwah emak aku " Kalau kita ada tanah ke, rumah ke yg mutlak hak kita..........tiada sesiapa pun bolih halau kita keluar dari tanah/rumah kita tu."
Aku pegang kata2 arwah emak........aku start beli tanah 3 ekar pertama RM7,000 another 3 ekar RM 15,000 another 4 ekar RM 36,000 sampai la last sekali a bigger one around RM100k. All cash with last one aku jual share2 yg aku ada. Aku make sure tanah tu antara yg termurah dan aku really tengok setiap tanah tu even tanya keliling kelalang (jadi Mat Kepoh).........dan tanah tu mesti...........bukan lalu tanah orang (ada jalan dia sendiri tak kisahlah jalan tar ke batu kisaran), dekat main road kalau bolih ada amenities (api, air). Aku anggap aku menyimpan secara paksa.....objektif: Tak terlalu bergantung pada EPF.
Location: Ada yg sampai Johor, Perak bagai. Nasib saya........tanah telah ditanami dengan sawit/getah yg dah ada atas tanah. Yg mana takde.......saya dapatkan bantuan RISDA. Alhamdulillah ada income masyuk. Tak kaya..........tapi ada.
Yg kat Johor dah ada orang tanya for RM400k.........makna dah triple value aku beli. Yg kat Perak, dapat RM150k pun kira OK. Ada yg murah, ada yg mahal............all in all average RM40k/acre way above my RM9k/acre (total amount paid/acre in hand)
So..........jauh ke dekat......is only in your mind. Tapi buat study dulu jangan hentam keromo.
Emak Dato Alif beli tanah jin bertendang.........but now???

This is real depression people. Memang simpan dan pendam sampailah makan dalam. Sebab iols pun pernah terkejut bila someone who is close to me yang iols look up to and life nampak happening confessed yang sheols pernah terfikir nak memandu masuk laut. Sebab fikir anak jer, sheols bertahan daripada pusing stereng masa tu. Tu pasal iols percaya, orang yang selalu bagitau semua orang yang dia depressionlah, ada anxietylah, panic attacklah ni jenis acah-acah kurang kasih sayang. Attention seekers gedik! |

Depression ni selalunya terjadi bila kita jenis memendam perasaan ataupun takde org yg bleh dipercayai yg bleh luah perasaan yg terbuku itu...pendam sorang2 mmg bleh makan diri sendiri. Iol ada kwn yg bergantung hidup dgn ubat, dr sebelum kwen smp dah kwen...bila dah kwen depression dia getting worst, a few time dah masuk hospital...dia bukan tak ingat tuhan tp bila depress tu dtg dia jd out of control...i tak rasa dia gediks atau attention seeker. |

Dah bayar deposit (sikit je)..........tapi aku quit (aku cakap kat owner - tak pe la simpanlah deposit tu. Salah aku. Halal)
Yg lain2 .............. bayar penuh, tambun tanah dan pecah lot. Last2 ada geran sendiri.
Kalau jual tanah je.........agak2 berapa sekarang?
Kalau jual tanah dan rumah banglo...........berapa nilai dia? |

Pernah dengar Amanah Saham Selangor tak? Harga asal RM1 per unit ........ drop sampai 30sen. Terpaksa Kerajaan Selangor masuk campur and bayar balik unitholders at par.,Lepas tu ASAS terus tutup. ASN OK la.......but be frank ....... I dont like unit trust |

Dan my husband dah dapat kerja baru.
Hari ni start, alhamdulillah, outdoor job so tak perlu pakai mask. So harap bertahan setahun dua lah hahhaha

Captain
The highest rank a pilot can achieve is that of a captain. Upon the accumulation of enough flight hours (varying, depending on the airline), a pilot is eligible to be promoted to the rank of captain, subject to rigorous assessments. Promotion may depend on the seniority of the first officer at the airline as well. Salary increments as a captain will depend on number of years, rather than hours.
Salary:
RM35,000+ (1st year)
RM40,000 – RM45,000+ (8th year onwards)
RM45,000 – RM50,000 (12th year onwards)
While being a pilot is a lucrative career, it’s important to remember that taking the plunge merely for the stipend is never recommended or advised. The responsibilities of a pilot are monumental, as he holds the lives of hundreds in his hands. This certainly cannot be taken lightly.
Additionally, pilots fly during odd hours as well as public holidays, giving them an irregular work schedule. Having said that, those who are truly interested will not mind but, rather, look forward to the adventure. |

me siap kata my sister yang jaga covid ward kat Riyadh tu pun ok pakai mask siap faceshield.. Ini dia yang pakai mask ke jap kejap aje.
me dan anak siap pakai mask depan mata dia.
Untuk buat dia go crazy me siap belikan anak faceshield lagi. Menjeling my husband tapi dia tak berani nak umpat sebab me dah kata pakai mask adalah pilihan me dan anak.
Lepas tu dia join group pasal tak pakai mask, nak demo tetiap hari kat parlimen katanya, me balas terus, tulis "" perangai macam tak da anak bini, sibuk nak demo, bila masa nak memain dengan anak.
Sekarang tak berani dia nak tulis apa apa dalam Facebook dah, sebab me balas hahhaha
