To me, Stephen King's books are the ones that really explore what fear is. Whether 'ghost', 'monster', 'langoliers', 'yourself' etc..... he really makes fear more tangible. His style of writing is also very addictive....cannot get enough of it. But on the other hand, personally, I consciously stopped reading his books for a period of time as I found my thoughts were getting 'blacker' and 'blacker' - ful of his fear inducing feels. Huh.... the best I can do to describe the impact of his books on me.
The crazy author from maine..... |

tak ada horror ok, sebab cerita pasal kemanusiaan yang berlaku dalam penjara.. ala-ala cerita 'the count of monte cristo'. if you expect horror, mmg tak ada langsung hantu/supernatural things yang muncul dalam cerita tu. aku tgk filem dia ajer.. tapi it turns out to be the best movie i've ever watched.. ni ada review aku pasal movie tu:
The story is timeless, the performance astounding and it shows that not all bad people is really bad, it's just a matter of being at a wrong time and place. The dialogues are just so beautifully written. This is a movie about the power of friendship. Who would have guess the film was adapted from a Stephen King's short stories? [err, mind for those who didn't know the writer, his famous novels are from horror genre].
Maybe some people complained about the nearly 3 hours screening, but it seems critical for the movie to unfolds its story. Each scene is perfect, continuing the flow of the movie. Well, I would never have guess that I am going to fall in love with this prison movie
[size=85%]"I have to remind myself that some birds aren't meant to be caged. Their feathers are just too bright. And when they fly away, the part of you that knows it was a sin to lock them up DOES rejoice. Still, the place you live in is that much more drab and empty that they're gone. I guess I just miss my friend." - a quote by Red (Morgan Freeman) |

ni review internal drpd IMDB:
THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION
A film review by Steve Rhodes
Copyright 1996 Steve Rhodes
RATING (0 TO ****): ****
Want to see a near perfect film? Like to see a movie where the people in it will undoubtedly get one or two best actor nominations (and possibly a best director)? Like slow moving almost dreamy films? Well, have I got a recommendation for you: see THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION!
THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION is based on a Stephen King book. Please do not get turned off. This is NOT a horror show or even close to it. It is the story of a strange quiet man (Tim Robbins) and his friend as well as the story's narrator (Morgan Freeman). 95% of the movie is set in a prison. Robbins and Freeman are both lifers. Everyone in the prison claims to be innocent with the exception of Freeman and the only one that appears to actually be innocent is Robbins. Robbins was a bank vice president on the outside. Freeman's specialty in prison is getting things for other prisoners. This plot setup happens in the first few minutes of the movie. After that it turns into a film about relationships and a dandy little mystery as well.
The acting is phenomenal. I knew Freeman could be this good (remember him in GLORY?), but I had no idea the depth of Robbins acting ability (my favorite of his before this was SHORT CUTS). Numerous excellent feature parts as well, especially the sinister warden (Bob Gunton) and the blood-thirsty head guard (Clancy Brown). Must have been a dozen other prisoners in memorable acting roles. Casting was right on the mark.
The director (Frank Darabont) really knew how to set the right pace and keep it. He made no mistakes in my book. The well written script (Frank Darabont and Stephen King) helped immensely as did the dark and somber cinematography (Roger Deakins).
You can not say too much about this show without giving key facts away so I will leave it at recommending you see it on a large screen with a quiet audience as this is one picture that will absorb you, and you want no interruptions. It starts well and ends well, but the 98% in the middle is the best part. See it now!
THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION runs 2:25. The editing (Richard Francis-Bruce) was perfect, and I would not have cut out a minute of it. It is correctly rated by the MPAA as an R. It actually has much less violence and profanity than you would expect in a prison show. I would have no problem in letting mature teenagers see it - take 'em with you, it is a serious show. I strongly recommend this perfect gem of a show, and I award it my top rating of ****. |

shawshank redemption ni.. kalau nak tgk movie dia, kena ambil tempat serene, yang ko rasa relax, sebab cerita dia very very absorbing, dan tak boleh miss walaupun sesaat.. sebab setiap babak dalam filem tu interconnected with each other.
filem ni bukan yang sekali lalu kau akan tertarik, tapi yang kau akan tengok berkali-kali selepas kau tengok buat kali pertama
ni definiton lifer untuk persoalan ko:
Definitions of lifer on the Web:
- (or lifer-dog) The name given to a certain type of Naval careerist because of: (1) their absurd gung-ho Navy fanaticism, or (2) their almost utter dependence on the structure the Navy offers their lives. Almost always a result of some sort of Navy poisoning, it is the rare individual that joins the Navy already a lifer.

Abt the Author - klu sesapa ada additional information..please do share
Becoming famous
King soon began a number of novels. One of his first ideas was of a young girl with psychic powers, but he grew discouraged and discarded it. His wife later rescued it from the trash and encouraged him to finish it.[3] After completing the novel, he titled it Carrie and sent it to Doubleday. He received a $2,500 advance (not large for a novel, even at that time) but the paperback rights eventually earned $400,000, with half going to the publisher. Soon following its release, his mother died of uterine cancer. His Aunt Emrine read the novel to her before she died.
In On Writing, King admits that at this time he was often drunk and was even intoxicated while delivering his mother抯 eulogy. [4] He states he was the basis for The Shining's alcoholic father, though he would not admit it (even to himself) for several years.
Shortly afterThe Tommyknockers' publication, King's family and friends finally intervened, dumping his trash梑eer cans, cigarette butts, grams of cocaine, Xanax, Valium, NyQuil, dextromethorphan (cough medicine), and marijuana梠n the rug in front of him to show the evidence of his addictions. As King related in his memoir, he sought help and quit all forms of drugs and alcohol in the late 1980s, and has remained sober since.[4]
King will not sign photographs. He feels that is something that should be reserved for movie stars. However, some of his fans have received autographed photos simply by asking.
King spends winter seasons in a waterfront mansion located off the Gulf of Mexico in Sarasota, Florida. Their three children, Naomi Rachel, Joseph Hillstrom (who appeared in the film Creepshow), and Owen Phillip, are grown and living on their own.
Owen and Joseph are writers; Owen published his first collection of stories, We're All in This Together: A Novella and Stories in 2005. The first collection of stories by Joe Hill (Joseph's pen name), 20th Century Ghosts, was published in 2005 by PS Publishing in a very limited edition, winning the Crawford Award for best new fantasy writer, together with the Bram Stoker Award and the British Fantasy Award for Best Fiction Collection. Tom Pabst will adapt Hill's upcoming novel, Heart-Shaped Box, for a 2007 Warner Bros release.
King's daughter Naomi spent the past two years as a minister in the Unitarian Universalist Church in Utica, New York, where she lived with her partner; she has since been reassigned.
Philanthropy
Since becoming commercially successful, King and his wife have donated money to causes around their home state of Maine.
The Kings' early nineties donation to the University of Maine Swim Team saved the program from elimination from the school's athletics department. Donations to local YMCA and YWCA programs have allowed renovations and improvements that would otherwise have been impossible. Additionally, King annually sponsors a number of scholarships for high school and college students.
The Kings do not desire recognition for their bankrolling of Bangor-area facilities: they named the Shawn T. Mansfield Stadium for a prominent local little league coach's cerebral palsy victim son, while the Beth Pancoe Aquatic Park memorializes an accomplished area swimmer who died of cancer.
Car accidentIn the summer of 1999, King had finished the memoir section of On Writing: A Memoir of the Craft but had abandoned the book for nearly eighteen months, unsure of how or whether to proceed. King says that it was the first book that he'd abandoned since writing The Stand decades earlier. He had just decided to continue the book and on June 17 wrote a list of questions fans frequently asked him about writing; on June 18, he wrote four pages of the writing section.
On June 19, at about 4:30 PM, he was walking on the right shoulder of Route 5 in Center Lovell, Maine. Driver Bryan Smith, distracted by an unrestrained Rottweiler named Bullet, moving in the back of his 1985 Dodge Caravan[5], struck King, who landed in a depression in the ground about 14 feet from the pavement of Route 5.[4]
Smith was leaning to the rear of his vehicle trying to restrain his dog and was not watching the road when he struck King. According to Oxford County Sheriff deputy Matt Baker, King was struck from behind and witnesses said the driver was not speeding or reckless.[6] King's website, however, states this is incorrect and that King was walking facing traffic.
King was conscious enough to give the deputy phone numbers to contact his family but was in considerable pain. King mentioned in an interview that he told a paramedic he knew he was going into shock |
