PREMIER LEAGUE football could be played abroad in a revolutionary announcement made today.
Every top-flight side may travel to cities such as Beijing, New York and Melbourne for competitive matches with the season will be extended from 38 games to 39.
They would all be played on the same day in January with a week's grace either side to give sides time to travel.
They will take place one after the other from 10am to 10pm UK time.
Premier League chief executive Richard Scudamore said: "The international round is an exciting and innovative proposal that needs careful consideration before being introduced.
"However, this concept recognises the truly global appeal of the Premier League whilst understanding that the traditions of the English game have always underpinned our success.
"We believe that an international round of matches will enhance the strength of the Premier League as a competition, create extra interest in all 20 Premier League clubs at home and abroad and allow increased investment in talent development and acquisition, facilities as well as our football development and community programmes.
"The globalisation of sport is both an opportunity and a challenge, one that needs addressing in a responsible way.
"We are a better competition for being a cosmopolitan league and have benefited from our increased international reach.
"Nonetheless, it is critical we retain our English character by improving our efforts to produce home grown talent, deepening our commitment to community engagement and continuing our investment in the grass roots."
The revolution could start in 2011 when current Premier League contracts are renegotiated.
The idea was discussed this morning between the governing body and Premier League teams.
If it goes through as planned the Premier League income will explode.
It promises to be the biggest money-spinner in sporting history and the idea is to make the Premier League a global brand which will dominate world sport.
But Malcolm Clarke, co-chairman of the Football Supporters' Federation, said: "I'm fairly confident in predicting that the overwhelming majority of football supporters will be totally opposed to this proposal.
"This is yet another case of the Premier League threatening the tradition of our game simply to follow money.
"The idea that teams can play a league game in a place where their supporters won't be able to go and watch them will be totally opposed by the vast majority of supporters.
"What I want to do is put a challenge to the Premier League to abandon this completely if the majority of supporters turn out to be against it." |

ala, tak perlu la. wat penat jer. kna travel kat negara2 europe pun diorang penat, inikan pulak nak gi asia, us bagai. kalo nak promote epl, senang je. bagi hak penyiaran kat mana2 stesen tv tak berbayar. contoh rtm ke. ni kat mesia arr. lagipun pressure la kat smaller clubs. contoh spurs vs manyu ker, kompem la stadium tu penuh dgn fans berbaju merah. not fair la.
cukup dgn pre season tour. ko round la 1 dunia. |
