according to Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) chief Jeneral Datuk Seri Rodzali Daud said "Malaysia was also looking into acquiring some Chinese military ware." (can refer following report from http://forum.cari.com.my/viewthread.php?tid=426175&extra=page%3D1&page=57)

if the statement is true, what weapon/system will ATM purchase from china?

the potential equipment in my mind are

The PLZ-45 is a 155 mm
(ligher & cheaper than K-9 and Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Bangladesh are using it)

125 mm ammunition for PT-91M
(wat v brough from Pretis are just for training)

more FN-6 or even FN-16 for very short-range SAM
(replace RMAF and RMN starburst, if possible ToT to us for local production and hv our own MANPADS)

SMART HUNTER TH-S311
(v need tis low-altitude missile combat command system for our MANPADS)

KS-1A medium-range SAM
(v lack of budget, KS-1A is jst a good to hv medium-range SAM)

Type 90 35mm twin cannon
(licensed copy from Oerlikon 35mm, GDF-002)

I dun thk v should look for China fighter jet, but if jst get spare part for our su-30mkm ok la.

The C-802 missiles are worth looking into for the NGPV. They are actually copies of the exocet.

I agree, the QC in the past has been poor. Contoh semasa thailand beli kapal from china.. bnyk masalah kan. ..walaupun pada harga 'friendly prices'. Kalau tak silap, Kereta kebal yg thai beli dari china juga mengundang masalah tak tahan lasak, betul kan?
Masa perang iran-iraq.. apc dari china juga mudah dimusnahkn bila kena bedilan dari pihak musuh... small calibre cannons.

I beleive the Chinese designed Luhu and Luhai(correct me if I am wrong) designs were rejected by their navy, hence only one unit of these two classes were ever built. That's why PRC's ordered Sovrenmy class destroyers from Russia as they have no confident in the design of these Chinese made destroyers.

However, the Pakistani navy did order frigates(F-22P design) from China and I believe one of them visited Port Klang on its way to Pakistani and apparentky Malaysian journalists were among the first foreigners to access the frigates during the visit. Any news on this, perhaps someone have made a review/observation on the quality of those Chinese made Pakistani frigates.

KS-1A ... not because of its effectiveness, but the potential ToT. We buy the missiles, design, technology by lock, stock & barrel.

Than we improved the darn thing. Drp KS-1A, jadi KRIS-A+. Tu br betul.

Kita xde duit nak beli fighter bebyk. Baik develop misil from existing missile tech. Blh mass produced, cheap & effective (if done right).

A USD $200K missile downing a USD $250 million worth of fighter .... see the cost involved. More bang for bucks ..

Skang, kita go 1st hand je. Kualiti, bukan kuantiti keutamaan. Mmg la sore point pesal kuantiti, tp kita leh built up 8, 18, 48 at a time (ATM suke no. 8 nih ... )
