Rakyat Malaysia yang dikenali Alfred Gerard Eravelly yang berjawatan sebagai juruterbang didapati bersalah kerana berulang kali merogol seorang wanita di Perth, Australia lebih 20 tahun lalu.


Menurut laporan Australian Associated Press (AAP), lelaki yang berusia 50 tahun itu memecah masuk ke rumah mangsa di Scarborough, Australia pada awal pagi 9 Mac 1996 dengan memotong jaring lalat yang dipasang di tingkap bilik airnya.


Suspek ditahan sebaik sahaja dia mendarat di Sydney, Australia dari Malaysia pada Februari tahun lalu.


Dia kemudiannya diekstradisi ke Perth.


Suspek mengaku bersalah atas semua pertuduhan yang dikenakan terhadapnya dan perbicaraan berlangsung selama enam hari di Mahkamah Daerah di Barat Australia.


Hukuman ke atas suspek ditetapkan pada 22 Jun ini.- CARI

Pilot accused of Perth rape claims sex was ‘consensual’

An AirAsia pilot told police he had fantasised about breaking into a woman's home and raping her, after he was arrested over a sex attack in Scarborough two decades ago, a Perth court has been told.

It is alleged Alfred Gerard Eravelly, 50, climbed through the bathroom window of a 38-year-old woman's beachside villa, tied her up and blindfolded her before raping her at knife-point in March 1996.

The 50-year-old, who lived in Malaysia before his arrest, is on trial in the District Court charged with burglary, unlawful wounding, deprivation of liberty and five counts of sexual penetration without consent.
Opening the State case today, prosecutor Sean Dworcan told the court Mr Eravelly was an aviation student living in Scarborough at the time of the alleged attack.

Mr Dworcan said the woman was alone in the house and woke after an intruder, who she said was wearing a stocking over his head and wielding a knife, shone a torch into her bedroom.
He said Mr Eravelly pushed the woman onto her stomach, blindfolded her and tied her hands behind her back before raping her on the bed.

During the alleged ordeal, Mr Eravelly allegedly cut the woman's arm with the knife, which Mr Dworcan said required stitches.

The court was told DNA samples were taken from the woman's bedding and breast which were eventually matched to Mr Eravelly in 2015 after an advancement in DNA technology.

Mr Eravelly was arrested in Sydney and extradited to Perth in February last year after arriving on a flight from Malaysia.
According to Mr Dworcan, Mr Eravelly initially told police in a video-recorded interview that he knew the woman, who he said he'd had consensual sex with three times before the night in question and that she was making up false allegations.

Mr Dworcan said after police agreed to turn off their video camera and under heavy police questioning, he told them that he was once a "peeping Tom" and had watched the woman through her bedroom window.

He said the pilot "made a confession" after police turned off their camera that he had fantasised about breaking in and raping a woman.
"He said he didn't enjoy carrying out this fantasy," he said.

Mr Eravelly's defence lawyer Tom Percy said his client denied allegations he'd never met the woman, saying the pair had struck up a consensual sexual relationship after meeting at a bar in Leederville.

Mr Percy said his client was invited to the house and tied the woman up as a way to "excite him".
"This was simply part of the sex play on the night," he said.

Mr Percy said Mr Eravelly had asked the woman for money and when she refused, he "blackmailed" her by threatening to tell her partner about their relationship.

He said the woman became angry and told Mr Eravelly: "You bastard, I'm going to report you, just watch the news tonight”.

Mr Percy said there was no evidence to suggest there was a forced entry into the house.
The trial continues.
