Wow..SG Formidabel new input... PAAMs(Aster 30 and Aster 15 misel)

Sg Formidabel klass is realiti arm with both Aster 15 and Aster 30 misels. Reveled by new report. This making them like Aegis ship in frigat size or Type 45 destroyer in frigat size. Aster 30 has maxed 100-120km renge. Aster 15 has more then 30 km maxed renge. Veri handsom and dedley ship. This making them like new Ozzy AAW frigat with ESSM/Standard misels which they will build soon. Very impresed. Sg buying and building proceder is very good. But good for ASEAN too. Now we have AAW ships to help balance Cina and India.

It seem this ship can be put more sistem and weapon in future too. From disign picture and other porem, seem they can add 16 more vls cell to make it 48(like UK Type 45 destroyer) in total from 32 vls now and cari more anty-ship misels. Yet only 60 men krew? very impresed. Can som1 pls bring Amin shah and make him see this!!!

KInda Puzzled so its Aster 15 or Aster 30 or both.
Well..if Aster 30 can be installed into the frigate it shall benefit the entire Asean, since Aster 30 is designed and built to counter ballistic Missile i.e. Scub in mind.SG potential adversary within the region doesnt own them. |

Page 38 and 39 where MBDA discus abt kurent and future Aster misel sistem. Say SG Formidabel has special SAAM configuration which involve A50 slyver lunchers and mixed of aster 15 and aster 30 misels. But like mk41 luncher, they can put all essms or aster 15s. Or all standards or aster 30 misels if they want. Mixed is more flexibel as long range tagets can be engeged using aster 30 misels at max renge 120 km and short to medium tagets can be engeged using Aster 15 misels at max renge more than 30 km. Most AAW capbiliti ships carri mixed of medium and long renge anty-air misels.
No. Aster 30 misel is like US standard misel..built for anty-aircraft and anty-misels...but Aster is more advanced as it is actif misel compare to semi-actif for kurent standard misels. Future standard misels(Standard 6?) will be all actif misels.
The balistic misel defence part is a aded new capabiliti for the Aster 30 misel..maybi software.

Dalam ringkasan, kapal Sg Formidabel ini dilengkapi misel Aster 15 dan Aster 30; sistem PAAMs(atau sistem yang agak sama..SG version?).
Sistem pertahanan PAAMs dan misel Aster 15 dan Aster 30 adalah sistem AAW(Anty-Air-Warfair) Europah yang setanding dengan sistem misel ESSM/Standard buatan US.
Kesimpulanya, kapal Sg Formidabel atau Formidabel klass sebenarnyer kapal jenis AAW; untuk pertahanan udara jarak jauh dan dekat. Selain daripada itu, kapal ini juga dilengkapi sistem pertahanan biasa seperti misel Harpoon, Oto Melara 76mm super raid, heli Seahawk dan berbagai-bagai lagi.

Actually the Aster 30 is not a fully certified ABM but just a medium to high-level SAM in the same class as the S-300 or Patriot. It definetely has the capability of shooting down relatively "slower" ballistic missiles such as the ancient Scuds but against Medium range and Long range ballistic missile types the effectiveness of the Aster 30 is questionable due to the higher re-entry velocity of the missiles. If I'm not wrong the magazine was disscussing the under-development Aster 45 which will be a dedicated ABM in the class of Arrow, S-400 and SM-3.
I'm actually abit skeptical that the RSN actually had the clout to buy these systems in such a sensitive region. But obviously such systems are aimed at reducing the increasing influence of Myanmar and PLAN.
Edit: It's actually not PAAMS but probably an extended SAAM system. You need EMPAR or SAMPSON (both systems are too big for a 3200 ton ship) for PAAMS. Rather, this will bring our Formidables simple up to FREMM standard, only stealthier and equipped with cruise missiles (Harpoon).We might tie in our Herakles with the the G550s to fully utilise Aster 30s if what the magazine said is true. It would be difficult and costly but not impossible. Also, if Formidable really has the A50 launchers, that probably points to the fact that RSN is looking intently on Storm Shadow/Scalp EG... Again aimed at PLAN probably.
