Gambar ini telah memenangi hadiah Pulitzer (diambil di Sudan). Seekor burung pemakan bangkai menunggu dengan sabar kanak-kanak yang sedang berjuang untuk bertahan hidup untuk dijadikan mangsanya. Orang yang mengambil gambar ini, Kevin Carter telah membunuh diri tidak lama setelah menerima hadiah Pulitzer tersebut (1994).Tajuk 'kejamnya dunia' telah dipilih untuk gambar ini.
Sumber wikipedia : On 27 July 1994 Carter drove to the Braamfontein Spruit river, near the Field and Study Centre, an area where he used to play as a child, and took his own life by taping one end of a hose to his pickup truck’s exhaust pipe and running the other end to the passenger-side window. He died of carbon monoxide poisoning at the age of 33. Portions of Carter's suicide note read: "I am depressed ... without phone ... money for rent ... money for child support ... money for debts ... money!!! ... I am haunted by the vivid memories of killings and corpses and anger and pain ... of starving or wounded children, of trigger-happy madmen, often police, of killer executioners...I have gone to join Ken [recently deceased colleague Ken Oosterbroek] if I am that lucky.

Dear God, I promise I will never waste my food no matter how bad it can taste and how full I may be. I pray that He will protect this little boy, guide and deliver him away from his misery. I pray that we will be more sensitive towards the world around us and not be blinded by our own selfish nature and interests. I hope this picture will always serve as a reminder to us that how fortunate we are and that we must never ever take things for granted.
