Sats can indeed track moving objects, why not? I saw it in 'Behind Enemy Lines'. A ship cant travel fast so once spotted, it can be tracked. Stealth can't make a ship disappear on radar but make the signature smaller. |

Is that tech in the movie for real? If so, they would certainly need a whole slew of satelites to acheive the fludity of human motion. I doubt many countries have such a capability at this stage. Yes, stealth does not mean invisible. It makes radar harder to track so that the stealth platform can hit first; long before the enemy knows what`s coming. Environment matters too. Stealth ships would be able hide better from radar when you have thousands of large ships around you with possibly thousands more smaller ships. |

Hmmm..kebanyakan gambar aku dah paste di sini. Nanti aku cari lagi. How you use it is up to you. Also, there will always be pros and cons no matter what you do. No one`s perfect. |

Well to my thinking, u guys have no choice being the "red dot" surrounded by green colored countries, no hanky panky on the defence procurement and strategic planning for total defence..for MY, defence is an additional functions to other aspect of governance, priority given to education, human capital, infra building etc (the nation-building part), in fact defence is considered as part of Bumi equity leverage tool to achieve the 30% of economic pie..thats why you see the mess when defence contracts handed out to inexperienced Bumi companies as middlemen for the foreign defence contractors..a lot of people maybe unhappy abt what I say, but this is the reality |

Actually priority in annual budget, lion's share is education followed by defence. |

irregardless of education defence social etc. Efficiency is not about who has the lion share of the budget..
Singapore maybe a "red spot" but the adminstration in each ministry is widely recognised for its top notch efficiency. |

Er...debmey. Its too much of hollywood movies in the making...!!! the world satelites have not yet developed to the extend of tracking a moving object on earth. Why do you think UAVs are widely used if they can use the SATS. Please do your homework before making any baseless comments |

UAVs are much cheaper than using sats sir.
What is so difficult about tracking a moving ship with sat? |

UAVs will still be using radars for long range search. Optics will only be good for short distances. Satellites move so fast in outer space that unless you have an entire fleet of similar satellites, i doubt you can acurately track ground moving objetcs. |

major powers do have a fleet of sats and these powers do share with allies which makes such tracking more available.
and we are talking about tracking a ship in the sea, not a car on land. |

Ships can be tracked if they have transponders in them where they can be linked to satellites high above in space. But we are talking about ad-hoc unrelated identification and tracking of dis-similar moving objects. Can it be done accurately as to allow for subsequent targetting? I dont think so. And Id like to be proven wrong and know more about it. |

Because the satellites has it's own orbit dude..it's a moving object.
It will not be available to scan and track the SAME AREA 24-7..I you have a fixed position satellites it will be logical, but then again how do you know the location of battle to come?still it scan coverage will be limited..another way is by using multiple satellites to do the job, but you need a whole bunch of it to make it effective, but will it be cost-effective?
Adoii..don't indulge too much into Hollymollywood movie la..
NO wonder your previous post has no sense at all in it.. |

You mentioned great powers previously. I would believe the US might have the tech. I certainly do not think the other powers do. Any references as I am really interested in this issue ? |

There are more than a dozen countries with spy satellites, including Turkey, India, Iran and Egypt.
There are also private owned satellite companies that sell high res images to anyone with the money to pay. |

Plausibly. But are they good enough and found in sufficient quantities to track disparate moving ground vehicles? I dont think so. Hence, the requirement for SAR platforms like UK`s Astor but these platforms are radar dependant so stealth helps. |
