Arsene Wenger: Loans Help Arsenal's 'Young Gunners'The Arsenal boss believes a loan spell away from the club at an early age can help increase the player's confidence in the dressing room, as well as instill a sense of team responsibility...
Arsene Wenger believes sending his young stars away on loan helps them achieve a greater education with regard to team responsibility, as well as aiding the player's self-assurance due to competing with experienced players for a regular first-team role.
Nicklas Bendtner is the most prominent current Gunner to have returned to the club from a successful loan spell, after helping Birmingham City's promotion cause two years ago with a plethora of goals and some fine performances in the Championship. That past experience has proved invaluable this term, as he has scored eight times and provided three assists thus far.
The club have also farmed 13 players away on loan this year. All of whom, according to the club, are competing in every rung in the English league system, as well as Spain, Italy, and Holland. The most notable of these young Gunners is West Bromwich Albion's new star Jay Simpson - who has scored twice for the Baggies.
"Someone like Jay needs to play," Wenger told the club's official website. "It is part of the education of the player to get them out on loan; to take the responsibility of playing in a first team and have to fight for a place in the dressing room.
"Not to think 慖 am disappointed I am not in the Champions League' but to know what it is like to play in their championship and to assert their personality in the dressing.
"They come back and realise that life may not have been as bad as they thought here," he concluded.
Simpson has already spent one loan spell away from the club when he played with Millwall for a year. He was to eventually play over 40 times for the club, claiming the PFA Fans' Player of the Season award whilst with the Lions. |

Bendtner Hails Arsenal Team-Mate Eduardo Da Silva
Arsenaltrounced Cardiff City by four goals to nil, but it is Croatianinternational Eduardo da Silva who will attract all the headlines...
Arsenal beat Cardiff City by a four goal margin this evening thanks togoals from Eduardo da Silva (2); Nicklas Bendtner; and Robin vanPersie, yet it is the goal-scoring return of their Croatianinternational who has attracted the post-match adulation.
BigDane Bendtner hit the post just before the break, and could havedoubled his own goal-tally, but in his post-match interview he wasquick to stress the importance of Eduardo's swift return to form, aswell as intimating that the newspaper reports suggesting that hedeserves a consistent starting role were pap.
"It was a goodgame, we did well," he told Setanta Sports. "We still have things tocome but it is important to just go through in the cup."
Regardingda Silva's deuce, he added: "It was amazing, everyone - the fans, theplayers - all wanted him to come back. We are all pleased for him andit is amazing to come back and get two goals."
On his ownability to find the net the one time, he said: "I should have hadthree! Sometimes you are unlucky though, but we won the game and thatis the main thing."
On the newspaper reports indicating hisclaims for a starting role ahead of both Emmanuel Adebayor and RobinVan Persie, Bendtner stressed: "What is said in the newspaper is nottrue. I do not read this. I just want to play, and do well.
"The FA Cup is something we want to win," he continued. "We have tried every year [to win] and this year will be no different."
Arsenal'snext opponents are Burnley - a team that knocked them out of the LeagueCup earlier in the season. "What happened last time was not nice, so Ihope it won't happen again," Bendtner joked.

ARSENAL
Fabianski: 6.5 - Had so little to do it was untrue, one save from Bothroyd in the second half was all he had to contend with.
Sagna:7.5 - Defensively untroubled and made some good forays forward, particularly setting up Bendtner twice with excellent delivery into thebox.
Toure: 7.0 - Cruised through the game in truth and coped with what little he had to contend with.
Gallas: 6.5 - A few wild challenges but otherwise untroubled at the back.
Gibbs: 6.5 - A couple of early runs from Burke troubled him but aside from that he did little wrong.
Nasri:7.5 - Some lovely moments, a good run and shot in the first half whichstung Heaton抯 hands before setting up Bendtner with a super corner.
Song: 7.0 - A strong showing alongside Denilson in the centre of the park, passed it well and wasn抰 shy in getting forwards.
Denilson:7.5 - Neat and tidy in possession and kept Arsenal抯 play ticking overnicely. Set up van Persie nicely late on but the Dutchman was denied byHeaton.
Vela: 7.5 - Enjoyed some lovely interplay with Eduardoand clipped in a great ball for the striker to finish for the opener.Very lively.

Eduardo -"Best day of my life"
Striker Eduardo da Silva has described the moment he scored against Cardiff City as the "best day of my life".
The Brazilian made his comeback from a career-threatening injury by scoring two goals to ensure progression into the next round of the FA Cup.
Eduardo added: ''It was a special moment to score, very emotional.
"I celebrated by kissing my wedding ring - because my wife and daughter and family supported me right through this.''
But the Croatian international had to be withdrawn from the game as he experienced some tightness in his hamstring. |
