Joe Hart - 7
It would take something special to beat someone of his calibre, and it was precisely that, a cracking shot from Arteta to take the win.
Pablo Zabaleta - 6.5
Nothing fancy going forward, if he even had the opportunity to. Solid at the back, denying Gibbs' crosses and runs on goal on numerous occasions.
Gael Clichy - 5.5
He was unlike the player he was in back when he wore an Arsenal shirt. Easily beaten down his flank and barely ventured into the Arsenal half of the pitch.
Vincent Kompany - 8
The Belgian was a strong figure at the back when Arsenal dominated for the majority of the match. He was also responsible for ensuring his defenders did not switch off and keep their concentration.
Joleon Lescott - 7
Quick to cut out the supply to Van Persie and managed to head clear Arsenal's bombardment of balls into his penalty area, especially in the opening minutes.
Yaya Toure (17' off) - 6
Picked up a booking and an injury after a clash of knees with Song in the opening minutes. Left the pitch soon after and City missed his physical presence.
Gareth Barry - 5.5
Needed someone like De Jong who would dive into tackles and win balls, but all Roberto Mancini had was a half hearted tackler who barely had a touch of the ball.
James Milner - 6
Milner was drafted infield to help beef up the City midfield especially after the departure of Toure, but his ball distribution was poor and hardly had a chance to run with the ball.
Samir Nasri (79' off) - 4
It was bad enough his team barely saw the ball, but it didn't help when he got a resounding boo every time he touched the ball. Should have been replaced much earlier if Mancini was serious about his title challenge.
Sergio Aguero (83' off) - 4
Was simply awful on a day when his manager needed him to step up and close the gap on their Manchester rivals. He was a running time bomb filled with frustration, waiting to explode.
Mario Balotelli (89' sent off) - 2:@
Balotelli was repeatedly screamed at to come back to help defend and after a series of poor tackles, he was a lucky boy to make it to half time. The headlines would be all Balotelli again after collecting his fourth red card of the season.
