Mascherano: This is our final!
Liverpool hardman Javier Mascherano reckons that Sunday's game against Chelsea will be the first final of the season.
The Argentine midfielder played in the midweek draw away at Wigan where Liverpool took the lead in the first half through Yossi Benayoun only to see Wigan snatch a late equalizer through a Mido penalty.
Liverpool fell back into third place on the table with Chelsea moving into second spot and Mascherano knows that his team will need to win the massive clash this weekend to maintain their title challenge.
He insisted: "It will be like a final for us - it's win or nothing. A draw would be a disaster because, to offer United a four or seven points advantage is almost the title for them.
"The road to the title is not lost but we've certainly given United the chance to take advantage. I am an ambitious player and a fighter. From Sunday we must win all our games to put fear into United and improve our chances.
"But we know it won't be easy because it's also a final for Chelsea, so a point is nothing because the only beneficiaries would be United.
"The players were very angry about the draws against Everton and Wigan and it's a shame to drop off after a great season.
"But psychologically a victory against Chelsea would be a massive injection ahead of the following games."
Mascherano will need to be at his best in order to shut out Frank Lampard and Michael Ballack's attacking forays at Anfield.
