Blast Mawi in their ears
THIS will go down as one of the most original - and perhaps highly effective - punishments of all time to young delinquents: an American judge has sentenced people busted for noise pollution in Colorado to one hour of listening to music by Barry Manilow.
Judge Paul Sacco sent the mostly young adult offenders to be confined to a room where they are forced to listen to recordings of songs by Manilow with the volume up loud, it was reported last week.
"When you have a person playing rap at extreme volumes all over the city, and they have to sit down and listen for an hour to Barry Manilow, it's horrible punishment," he said.
Sacco said his love for music and helping youth, inspired the unusual sentence.
"It's a punishment but it doesn't hurt as bad as jail or (paying) a lot of money," he said.
Whoa. Just imagine being confined to a room and forced to listen to songs which go "I can't smile without you, I can't smile without you, I can't laugh and I can't sing, I'm finding it hard to do anything" over and over again.
Perhaps Malaysian judges should take a cue from judge Sacco and try this punishment out, too, especially on the Mat Rempit and those young daredevil drivers in their modified Protons and Peroduas.
Instead of Barry Manilow, maybe get them to listen to Mawi at full blast for three hours.
Better still, force them to watch one of those TV dramas shown on RTM.
Chances are, half way through the "torture", they will be rolling on the floor pleading for mercy and promising that they would repent. |
