Cosworth satisfied with Bahrain weekend performance
Working with AT&T Williams, HRT F1, Lotus Racing and Virgin Racing, Cosworth was able to verify the performance of its CA2010 V8 engine in race conditions after encouraging results in pre-season testing. The weekend was marred only by an engine issue on Bruno Senna’s HRT during the race, caused by sudden water loss from the chassis water system.
AT&T Williams driver Rubens Barrichello was the highest-placed of the eight Cosworth-powered runners, picking up a world championship point for tenth place, while team-mate Nico Hülkenberg finished 14th. Cosworth reliability also helped the new Lotus Racing team achieve its objectives of a two-car classified finish in its debut race.
Q+A with Mark Gallagher – Cosworth General Manager F1 Business Unit:
How was the Bahrain Grand Prix from Cosworth’s point of view?
“After the many months of work developing and implementing our return as an engine supplier to Formula One it was good to finally get the racing underway. It was satisfying to see all four of our teams in action and to witness the three new teams enjoy their Formula One debuts. From an engine performance point of view, I think we can be very satisfied with the performance of the CA2010 in Bahrain. Both AT&T Williams drivers finished the race with Rubens picking up a championship point for tenth, while Lotus Racing achieved a significant milestone in having both cars secure a classified finish and produce a step-change in performance as a result of being able to race so effectively.”
What about Virgin Racing and HRT?
“From a Cosworth perspective both teams worked well and although hampered by reliability issues, good progress was clearly being made. Virgin Racing have been able to take a lot of positives out of the weekend and Saturday’s qualifying performance demonstrated the potential in the Virgin-Cosworth VR01. In HRT’s case, the mere fact that they got two cars ready for the race was an achievement in itself and, in that respect, Cosworth’s provision of the full electronics solution in only three weeks was a key factor. Bruno Senna’s retirement was caused by a broken water fitting from the radiator which meant he lost all the water from his car. The implications of that failure on his engine were apparent for all to see and the engine is being returned to our headquarters.”
Have you received positive feedback from the teams and drivers themselves?
“We have spoken with our technical counterparts in each of the teams on a regular basis to ensure that we are meeting our targets and objectives. I have also spoken to several of the drivers who have given us positive and constructive feedback on the CA2010 performance and driveability. We have accumulated a lot of track data from Bahrain, a circuit that is quite demanding on the engine, and this will be thoroughly examined and analysed by our team of engineers back in Northampton. Overall, it has been a solid start to Cosworth’s 2010 season, in terms of engine performance and reliability, as well as with our specific electronics support to Lotus Racing and HRT.”

Rear diffusers - potential modifications
Ahead of round two of the season in Australia, the FIA is expected to issue a clarification of the rules relating to rear diffusers. The regulations permit a hole in the diffuser to allow access for the engine starter motor. However, there are concerns that teams could be exploiting this 'loophole' to gain aerodynamic benefit, by adopting unusually shaped starter motors in order to justify particularly large and sculpted diffuser openings. Don't be surprised if many have been modified come Melbourne so as to appease the scrutineers.

Compulsory KERS to spice up F1 'show'
The possible return of KERS to Formula One next year could be used to spice up the 'show'.
In meetings at Sepang this week, lifting FOTA's current gentleman's ban on the energy recovery system was discussed.
More meetings are planned for the weekend of the Spanish Grand Prix next month.
Among the biggest criticisms of KERS last year was the huge cost of developing the systems, the fact that it was not compulsory, and the questionable advantage of carrying the heavy units that can only be deployed a few seconds per lap at 400 kilojoules.
Already on the table to address some of these problems is that the systems will be more powerful, developed by a single supplier and run by all the teams.
Another suggestion is that its usage would be limited to a certain number of button presses per race, in order to aid overtaking.
Reports have said Renault is keen for KERS to return, but perhaps with its own system, while Mercedes' Ross Brawn said the debut of a new engine formula for 2013 is a complication.
"We would prefer to look at something that is planned and integrated with the new powertrain in 2013," he said.
Sir Frank Williams, although concerned that accommodating KERS alongside the new big fuel tanks will make the cars "longer than a London bus", commented: "There's general agreement it should have a place in Formula One.
"I believe it should be compulsory or not at all," he said at Sepang. "It's appropriate if it's not too expensive."
And McLaren's Whitmarsh added: "A lot of the teams couldn't afford KERS next year, the majority couldn't. We need to find something that is affordable." |

Rumour - Magneti-Marelli to supply standard KERS in 2011?
According to a rumour in the Sepang paddock on Saturday afternoon, KERS could be set to return to F1 in 2011.
The topic was discussed during team boss meetings at the Malaysian circuit on Friday.
No 2010 car features the energy recovery technology, following a gentleman's agreement among the ranks of the teams association FOTA.
But the official technical regulations still permit KERS.
It is rumoured that Magneti-Marelli, a Fiat subsidiary and electronics specialist, has already expressed interest to FOTA about supplying a standard KERS unit to all teams for the 2011 season. |

pasal tiap2 awal thn FIA akan pikir idea baru
tuk tukar peraturan thn depan..... semuanye
bertujuan tuk bagi cabaran baru setiap team dgn satu matlamat
iaitu mendapat tarikan penonton seluruh dunia...... keadaan fizikal kereta
byk disentuh bagi menampakkn kelainan wal hal kelajuan tetap sama
bagi setiap race.... yg membezakn adalah.... berjaya kah team tersebut mendapatkn
kembali kelajuan itu? |

kalo kite amik contoh track kat sepang tuk satu lap 1minit 33saat....
tapi start trak tu dibuka smp la skrg ni... tetap same satu lap 1minit 33saat
tuk catatan terpantas contoh la kan.... tapi perubahan pada fizikal jentera
berbeza setiap thn.... dan persoalan nyer berjaya kah setiap team tu
mendapatkn kembali kelajuan tersebut.... so ade faham? |

boleh je pakai kereta lama tapi kereta kena modified ikut spesifikasi/peraturan yg ditetapkan oleh FIA utk season baru
kecuali jika berlaku perubahan besar dalam peraturan baru tu
season ni ada team yg guna kereta lama tapi diubah bersesuaian dgn peraturan baru
cth
1.Team Redbull=RB6 berasal dari RB5
2.MercGp=minor change dari kereta BrawnGp |

tahun depan sepang nak turunkan tiket, target penonton 100,000
Malaysian GP targets 100,000 fans Reuters - Tue, 06 Apr 09:10:00 2010
Formula One fans will be able to get cheaper tickets for next year'sMalaysian Grand Prix as organisers target a race day audience of atleast 100,000 at the Sepang International circuit.
Nearly 98,000 watched Sebastian Vettel lead Mark Webber to a Red Bull one-two in Sunday's race at the track, which can hold up to 130,000 spectators.
"Nowwe have to start planning for next year and we will review all ticketprices," circuit chief executive Razlan Razali told the Star newspaper.
"It is to make the Malaysian GP more accessible to everybody and we want to ensure more Malaysians get in touch with the sport.
"Myhope was to get 100,000 to come on race day and we were just a bitshort of reaching the target. We have to work on volume to get the fansin and my hope is to see the stands filled in future Malaysian GPs."
Thestate-owned circuit is 85 kilometres from central Kuala Lumpur and hasfrequently been hit by heavy rain on race weekend, including thetorrential downpour that cut short last year's race.
After 12 years of grand prix racing, the facilities could do with an upgrade, Razlan said.
"The plan is to look at improving the facilities and upgrading the infrastructure for the next few years," he told the paper.
"Wealso have immediate priorities to repair leakages besides putting up apermanent hospitality building and the support paddock."
