Amrita Rao: 揑抦 a total romantic at heart厰

Yet another comedy, this seems to be becoming your favourite genre.
揚yare Mohan is not an all-out comedy; it抯 a love-story. The backdrop is funny because one guy if blind, the other is deaf. And both of them fall in love with girls who抮e diva-like pop-singers. So the premise makes the story very amusing. I know 慚asti |

MEDIA REPORTS UPSET KAREENA
Media reports of late have upset Kareena Kapoor. She has called them imaginary, fabricated at work. She denies that she had ever got Priyanka Chopra ousted from '36 China Town' by influencing either the movie's director Abbas- Mustan or its producer Subhash Ghai. She claims that her performance in 'Aitraaz' had got her best actress nomination. So, there was no question of her getting irritated over Priyanka's performance in 'Aitraaz'. In fact, she claims that '36 China Town' is going to be her best movie. Industry circles wonder if she is claiming this because her boyfriend Shaahid Kapoor has played an important role in the movie.
Another report that has upset her is that she has agreed to do an item number in Farhan Akhtar's 'Don' because of lack of adequate professional work in her kitty at present. Kareena blasts this report by claiming that this is not an ordinary item number but a challenging role played by famous dancer Helen in the Amitabh Bachchan starrer 'Don' in the past. Besides, she puts on record that she is playing an important role in Vishal Bhardwaj's movie 'Hisaak'. Bhardwaj has replaced his earlier title of 'Othello' by 'Hisaak'. Incidentally, Ram Gopal Varma has favored Kareena Kapoor for his next 'Time Machine' opposite Shah Rukh Khan. Though Kareena Kapoor agrees that she has an offer, but the same hasn't been finalized yet.

SUSH: LET AISH ALSO PLAY LAKSHMIBAI
Sushmita Sen doesn't mind her colleague Aishwarya Rai playing the same character of Rani Lakshmibai in another director's movie. She says, "A director can make a movie in fifty different ways. Besides, a character can act a role in so many ways. Therefore there is no competition between Aishwarya Rai and myself ". She was referring to the report that Aishwarya Rai is also playing the historical character of the Rani Lakshmibai in a rival movie. In an exclusive interview, Sushmita has said that she will soon be traveling to Argentina in connection with Richard Gere's movie 'Expects'.
"I am playing the role of a Pakistani girl in this movie. In spite of this, I am not keen on acting in Hollywood movies. I want to act in Spanish, French and Indian movies." Though she believes that Hollywood is a better planned industry as compared to Bollywood, yet she has no idea of shifting to Hollywood. Similarly, she is acting in 'Karma Confession & Holy' with Randeep Hooda. In a query about her future plan, Sushmita says that she has turned 30 last November and wants to concentrate in the coming decade on her acting career, business and personal life. "I wish to retire at the age of 40."

Hrithik's Krrish is a lifted film?
Director Rakesh Roshan said he was amused by filmmaker Ivan Rana's claim that his film "Krrish" was a lift.
According to Rana, he wrote a story - "Superhero" - in 2003 and showed it to Roshan, who asked him to leave the details with him. Later when Rana contacted him, he alleges Roshan refused to film the story.
However, Rana didn't register the story anywhere. Now he says he is shocked to see the promos of "Krrish", which has the same storyline that he showed Roshan.
"I am laughing at it and don't want to give importance to it," Roshan told on phone from Mumbai Thursday.
A source from the Roshan camp said: "Rana is doing all this for publicity and there is no truth in his claims."
Rana has told reporters: "I had also written about a wire technology from Hong Kong. Even the superhero mask I'd designed has been used."
If he files a case and succeeds in satisfying the court with evidence, the July release of "Krrish" may be stalled.
Last year Nagesh Kukunoor's critically acclaimed film "Iqbal" had also been accused of plagiarism. A Delhi boy had claimed that the film's plot was stolen from a story penned by him.

Madhuri Dixit scraps Bollywood comeback
Former Indian movie star Madhuri Dixit scrapped plans for a comeback two years ago after she learned she was expecting her second child, according to a published interview.
Dixit was Bollywood抯 leading lady in the 1990s, but she gradually gave up acting following her marriage in 1999 to a US-based Indian surgeon in Denver, Colorado. She now has two sons, Arin and Ryan, aged three and one.
According to the latest edition of monthly movie magazine Cine Blitz released this week, Dixit had signed on to make a film with Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan two years ago. 揑 was meant to do that film. Everything was planned, |

What made Bipasha cry
Think Bipasha Basu and think Jism. That was 2003.
Think Bipasha and think No Entry. This is now.
After 10 flops post-Jism, the sultry siren seems to have evolved as an actor and has done everything required of a top notch Hindi heroine: Run around trees; make people laugh and cry; seduce men on the big screen.
More importantly, she looks hotter than ever.
"There are only 10 genres of films and I have acted in all of them. I am happy to say to my fans that I can easily work for the next five years in the industry as I have proved my mettle in every aspect of acting," says Bipasha.
Ask her what went right after so many flops, and Bipasha smiles. "It is just like a business plan. In business sometimes wrong decisions go right and right decisions go wrong. That is what happened to my film career," she says.
"When I did films like Chehraa, Rakht and Madhosi, I felt very good. These were very powerful roles and I personally feel my performance excelled. Unfortunately, these films flopped badly at the box office."
If last year gave her a blockbuster like No Entry, this year looks even more promising as she has films like Dhoom 2, Corporate, Phir Hera Pheri and Abbas Mustan's yet untitled film.
But what about solo hits? "Let us admit the fact that nobody can give a solo hit today except Shah Rukh Khan," is Bipasha's reply. "Just imagine who will come to see Anil Kapoor and Bipasha in a film like No Entry? The frank answer is no one. But you add Salman Khan and others and people will surely mob outside theatres."
Interestingly, her boyfriend John Abraham's career was at an all time low when Bipasha was sizzling at the box office. A reverse trend followed after Dhoom became a big hit in 2004: John's career started rocking and Bipasha's started sagging.
Today both their careers are white hot, but why aren't they doing any films together? "We have always maintained that we will only do films if we get good banner and good script," says Bipasha.
But isn't it true that she is doing role of Draupadi for Rituparno Ghosh in which John is playing the role of Arjun? "You better ask John this question. As far as Rituparno is concerned both of us have been discussing films many times," Bipasha is quick to answer.
One complaint against Bipasha has been that many of her blink and you miss it kind of roles, like in Apaharan.
"Yes, that has been a complaint from some of my fans too," admits Bipasha. "However, I feel that my role in the film has to be remembered. More than that I want to work with good banners and I don't see anything wrong in that."
But what scope does she have in her forthcoming film Phir Hera Pheri, in which she is pitched against the hit funny trio of Paresh Rawal, Suniel Shetty and Akshay Kumar?
"Obviously, no one can compete with them," says she. "I have only added my part of humour in the film. I am a con woman in the film who runs away with all the money that the Hera Pheri gang has amassed. My character's name is Anuradha and after my act there is a wild goose chase for the money and that is a laugh riot."
On a more serious note, Bipasha says one of the most disturbing events in her life was when a newspaper published what it claimed was a conversation between her and Samajwadi Party leader Amar Singh.
"Gossips about me have never bothered me," says Bipasha. "This news when published devastated me. I cried like a child and went to my parents. They told me to stay calm and they trusted me completely. They told me the issue will die and there is nothing to worry. Thankfully that's what happened," she adds.
"I feel bad one of the newspapers published the transcript without crosschecking or without proper investigation."
Is she a political person? "I have never campaigned for any party. There are political parties who give monies to actors to campaign but still I never go and do that. I have always kept away from politics."
Does she vote? "Yes. I do," she says. "Now don't ask me which party I vote for because it is a secret!"

Amisha Patel
There was a time when Amisha Patel was one hot-headed woman - always in the news for everything except acting.
Her tiff with her parents over monetary issues made national headlines, followed soon after by her affair with Vikram Bhatt. This column has also mentioned, often, how she gets into tiffs with journalists for no apparent reason when it comes to personal matters.
Now, it seems the anger is passe. There is no argument from her side even if you provoke her about her parents or, for that matter, her relationship with Vikram Bhatt.
Maybe the idea that one matures with age suits this beauty today. Then again, when it comes to starry tantrums, you never know.

Kareena Kapoor and Shahid Kapoor.
Who is a bigger flop? We don't know. Take a look at their track record at the box office, and they spell disaster. If Kareena had Bewafaa and Kyon Ki last year, Shahid had Vaah! Life Ho Toh Aisi and Shikhar.
Now, the two have come together for 36 China Town.
Will it be another disaster? We are more sceptical because the film is being produced under the banner of Subhash Ghai's Mukta Arts, a company with a disastrous record of late.

Hrithik Roshan
Let's say the author of this column wants to direct a film with Hrithik Roshan as the lead. Will anyone take this note seriously? Nope.
Surprisingly, director Onir - who has just one film called My Brother Nikhil to his credit - is being taken seriously. Apparently, he is doing a film based on Shakespeare's play, Hamlet. Even though the film is in the scripting stage and there is no producer, tons has been written on him and how he would love to have Hrithik in his film.
We don't know if Hrithik would love to do a film with him, but this author has been inspired by Onir and would also love to direct a film starring Hrithik. Will any producer out there finance the project?

Ash: I want more action films
Movie stars have always drawn attention. The fascination with Aishwarya Rai, however, takes on a life of its own. The star's career is at a stage where every move made is analysed by journalists, industry watchers and fans.
She makes news every time she is referred to as one of the most beautiful women in the world. She makes news even when she is not included in such lists. And she certainly draws attention when her shoot is interrupted because of an accident or minor health-related issue.
In her latest, Mistress Of Spices, Rai plays Tilo, owner of a spice shop in Oakland, CA, who uses the magical powers of Indian spices to help her customers. Gurinder Chadha - who produced the film for her director husband Paul Meyeda Berges, has said that Rai has given her best performance yet.
Why did you choose to do Mistress Of Spices at this stage?
I wanted to support Paul in his directorial debut. When he shared his vision with me years ago, I agreed.
How did you relate to Tilo's character? Was there any emotional connection you made with her?
I have related to each character I have performed thus far, including Tilo. I am very sensitive to moods and one's inward feelings and emotions. I am a true people person and people watcher. I look forward to meeting interesting people and understanding their experiences in life.
What was it like working with Paul? How does his style of working differ from that of Gurinder's?
Paul was wonderful to work with. He is a very gentle director - very much at peace within. He kept his set moving, yet with a very peaceful tone. Gurinder makes work fun. You find yourself laughing each day.
You have worked on Bride And Prejudice in the US and now Mistress of Spices, shot at least partly in America. What it is like working with a non-Indian crew outside the Bollywood environment?
Crews are very professional worldwide. Everyone is a hard worker and I respect their positions. I connect with many crewmembers during the course of filming and find people are people with pretty much the same concerns for their family, health and future.
What does it take to act in an English language film? Does your body language, emotion and thinking process change when you are acting in English as compared to Hindi?
There are subtle changes, but I have found that the craft remains the same whether in English, Hindi or any other language I have performed in.
Can you talk about the choices you have made in the past few years? How are you managing your career?
I choose films with characters that I feel are relative to a woman's growth for me. In The Last Legion, I play a warrior. This was a first for me and it was a fantastic experience.
I would like very much to do more action films. As for the right direction, I make my choices and always move forward one step at a time.
What happened to some of your other foreign film projects? Chaos, Singularity?
I believe HBO Films is working on the English version of the script for Chaos and Roland Joffe is working on another film. This industry is based on scheduling - when all the stars align - those are the films I confirm.
The big question on everyone's mind -- your planned move to Hollywood or plans to act in Hollywood films. How are those plans coming along?
I never planned on moving away from India. There is no need. My films take me to locations around the world.
Some years I spend very little time at home due to my schedule. Producers have no problem locating me or my manager with offers.

'It's fun being in love with a married man' - Esha Deol
I don't think it's a bad thing to be in love with a married man," says Esha Deol. She backs it up with the fact that her mother -- the gorgeous Hema Malini -- fell in love with the much-married Dharmendra, and has lived a happy life.
"A lot of people are in love with married men," she adds. "In fact, it's fun being in love with a married man! Your mind is always working, you're always fighting for something..."
"But it's wrong according to society," Esha continues. "And so my character in Ankahee has negative shades."
'I could not do more than one scene a day'
Her character Kavya in Vikram Bhatt's film is a former Miss World who falls in love with a married doctor (played by Aftab Shivdasani), and is obsessed by him. She does not care about his wife's feelings or the fact that he has a child. She just wants him at any cost.
Esha does not agree with how her character reacts, and the process of acting it out drained her.
"It was very tiring," she says. "My mother would wonder why I'd be sitting in a corner staring at the ceiling. The character really affected me. The dubbing was very tough too. I had to scream a lot. I could not do more than one scene a day."
Esha describes a time when she had to do an especially hysterical scene. "After the take," she recalls, "I was in my van throwing up. I don't know what happened to me that day. I was feeling so giddy. I was shaking. They had to send me home. I didn't tell my mom about it. She'll read about it in this interview now."
'Gossip does not affect me'
Ankahee is said to be based on Vikram Bhatt's then relationship with Sushmita Sen.
"I don't know Sushmita at all," says Esha, who says she has no knowledge if the film is based on that romantic liaision . "I just know she's hot! I didn't ask Vikram about this. I am not such a cheap person to ask whether these incidents happened to him. I was just told the story, and I played it like a normal character."
Bhatt's current girlfiend Amisha Patel plays a character in the film, and Esha is paired opposite Aftab, who she was reportedly seeing during the filming of her debut movie, Koi Mere Dil Se Pooche.
After that film bombed, the couple haven't been seen on screen since. Until Ankahee, that is.
"We are doing a film together after five years," Esha points out. "It was a nice experience. Gossip does not affect me and certainly does not make our relationship awkward. Aftab is a great actor and has done a great job."
'They want a sexy, hot chick!
Produced by Pritish Nandy Communications, Ankahee sees Esha in glamorous mode. Taking the glam route is a deliberate move by the young actress.
"No one wants to cast a podgy actress," she laughs. "They want a sexy, hot chick! I am glad Dhoom happened. It was a revelation for everyone! It's a good thing that people don't want a very slim body. They don't mind some muscles, so I can get away with it!"
Like her mother who broke away from glamorous roles to play interesting characters in Gulzar's films like Meera, her daughter is doing likewise with Gulzar's daughter Meghna.
"Meghna's Honeymoon will see me in a simple role. People say I look glamorous because those roles are more in your face. But I am not glamorous all the time."
'I loved Yuva'
Esha says she has no regrets about her choices of movies.
"I enjoyed doing Na Tum Jaano Na Hum because it was the first film I shot for. I loved Yuva, because I was part of the Tamil version as well. Besides, we shot in these lovely outskirts of Mumbai. And I loved being part of Dhoom and Kaal too."
After Ankahee, she will be seen in Meghna Gulzar's Honeymoon and Anubhav Sinha's Cash.
Hema Malini also plans to direct her daughter in a film alongside Rekha.
