Govinda set to rock again in 'Sandwich'

Once upon a time there was an actor called Govinda whose mere name was good enough to pull crowds into the theatres. The king of comedy had theatres across the nation waiting for his films to get released, be it A, B or a C center!

Then came multiplexes, a few bad choices of films, some sheer bad luck and an inclination towards politics that spelt disaster for his Bollywood career. People still laughed with him but his films were not funny anymore. Old releases kept piling up and when they eventually released, they happened in an arbitrary manner.

But now fortunes are bound to change for him as he has a great set of films lined up in coming one year. Apart from his fresh stock of films, he also has a release pending in the form of 'Sandwich' [earlier titled 'Hum Do Hamara Ek'] and if reports are to be believed, he is all set to rock again starting with this film.

Though 'Sandwich' has been lying in the cans for around 2-3 years now, this film about double trouble with Raveena Tandon and Mahima Chaudhary is directed by none other than Anees Bazmee who gave Bollywood the biggest HIT of 2005 - NO ENTRY. Going by the feelers of Sandwich, the film brings back the nostalgia of the Govinda of 90s who turned everything that he touched into gold.

All set for release in a few weeks time, what one expects from Sandwich now is a reasonably good publicity, especially in the times when the first week's business is the sole decision factor about a film's fortunes. With last year and a half being simply great for comedy films, it won't be surprising if Govinda kick starts his comeback with the success of 'Sandwich' itself!

Bobby Deol talks about shooting with father Dharmendra for the first time

Bobby Deol's real life hero is Dharmendra.  So, naturally, when he shot with his dad for the first time, for Apne, he approached the sets with some trepidation.

Speaking about shooting with his dad and his brother Sunny Deol, Bobby says, 揑 gave my first shot with dad in Chandigarh recently and it went off quite well. I can't reveal what the scene was about, as that will give away the story.  However, it was a very emotional scene.

Amrita walks out at the eleventh hour

Many actors decline film offers, citing the most common reason卍ate issues.  However it抯 a different case in this scenario. If the grapevine is to be believed, Amrita Arora has opted out of Deepak Bahry抯 latest film also starring brother-in-law Arbaaz Khan as it involved lovemaking scenes between the two. Apparently she was not aware of any such scenes in the film and it was only disclosed to her at the last minute.

The hazel-eyed beauty made her debut opposite Fardeen Khan in KITNE DOOR KITNE PAAS. Also, her song 'Dilli ki sardi' from ZAMEEN created quite a stir the minute it hit the screens. She was also seen in FIGHT CLUB some time back. Her forthcoming film RED, directed by Vikram Bhatt is based on teen angst which also stars Aftab Shivdasani, Celina Jaitley and Sikandar Kher amongst a few.

Having lost weight before leaving for the Rock Stars concerts, Kareena Kapoor is making waves in the United States and says both she and Shahid Kapur are overwhelmed with the response.

"The concerts are going unbelievably well. We have finished our performance in Washington. And the ovation is unreal. For Shahid it is the first time. He has never done live concerts before. And he is having a ball like me," Kareena told IANS.

Kareena says the Rock Stars concerts are the best live shows of her career. "Every performance of mine from 'Yuva' to 'Chameli' to 'Fida' has the audiences on its feet."

Going into the details of the concerts, she says, "Shahid and I have an act together. I also have a dance number with Salman Khan. We have just finished Washington. Our next performance is in Boston. After that we will perform in Chicago, New York and then Toronto."

"Everywhere we go the screams of the audiences follow us. I tell you it is unreal. To watch them go insane after our performances gives me a high that I can't put into words."

Despite having an abbreviated role in her latest release "36 China Town", Kareena says the film has done quite well.

"Shahid and I have been accepted as a pair. We will now be seen in Priyan's (Priyadarshan) 'Chup Chup Ke'. I really don't think life can get any better... or may be it can."

Kareena returns on June 14 to join the unit of Farhan Akhtar's "Don" in Malaysia.

"It's just a special appearance in 'Don'. But my song 'Yeh mera dil pyar ka deewana' rocks. I know there will be comparison with the original (Helen in Chandra Barot's 'Don'). But all comparisons will be forgotten once people see what I have done."

Now, when a director sets out to make a film that has been adapted from a novel of classic proportions which has already been cinematically depicted before, what distinguishes one effort from the other is the director抯 vision. So, when Dutta had to explain his Umrao Jaan to Ash, he simply said, 揗y Umrao is Ameeran, the girl child. Ameeran was her name before she was abducted and sold to the dancing house. So, think of her as a woman with a tear in her eye and a smile on her face.
