Akshay Kumar to endorse an MNC
Akshay has become a hot brand property in the endorsement scene with brands lining up to be endorsed by him. But the star is being very selective about the brands he would like to be associated with and does not want to dilute his brand equity. He has been turning down a slew of brands and does not want to compromise either on price nor quality.
Recently he was offered a whopping amount to renew a contract with a liquor company which he refused and the same was taken by another of his contemporaries. Also he was offered almost 8 crores for endorsing another undergarment company, but Akshay being selective refused, which was again taken by another macho star.
Says Akshay, "As I said earlier, I would only like to endorse quality products. I prefer to be selective and it should be in sync with my brand Image. I will not compromise either on price or quality" He has been refusing to endorse sub-standard brands be it a Cigarette, Alcohol or 'Ganji' products as a matter of policy.
According to close sources a huge MNC has signed Akshay to be the Brand Ambassador in India. It's a shocker of a deal clinched amidst heavy competition from other biggies!! An announcement of the same is on the anvil. In the endorsement corridor it has been hushed that it can't get better than this |

Akshay: Imagine a 6 hour Hera Pheri
He might not have had a hit in 2006 so far, but Akshay Kumar would justifiably be counting on the June release Phir Hera Pheri to change things. A sequel to the smash hit Hera Pheri (2000), this film -- starring Paresh Rawal, Akshay and Sunil Shetty - is one of the year's most awaited.
Raja Sen caught up with Akshay on the sets of the new comedy, while he was fending off silliness. "What attracted you to be a part of this film?" asked an enthused female journalist. Akshay raised an eyebrow and said, "Well, it is a sequel, so it couldn't have been made without me."
After dealing with the obvious trappings of a star addressing the media, Akshay briefly talked about the new film, and the importance of being Raju.
What should people expect from the new film?
Imagine if Hera Pheri was a 5 to 6 hour film. In the same way, this is a continuation of the same story. We've worked hard on the film, but we've done nothing under pressure.
Tell us about the plot?
The first film ends with us striking it rich - when we save the little girl and get the reward -- but now we want more money. As usual, I (grins) try to invest it for them, and they don't believe me the first time. But then they consider it and say 'okay, he's an intelligent guy, he'll invest very well,' so then they give me their shares of the reward money and I invest it for them, and that's where this film takes off.
What do you think is the appeal of your character, Raju? What makes him a special?
What makes Raju special? Hmmm. See, the films are called Hera Pheri. And I'm the character who does all the cheating, and all the galat (wrong) stuff, you know, the lying, fooling people. Raju's always out for a fast buck. So this guy brings the hera pheri (fraud) element into the film.
Is there a message about greed somewhere? Some thought about how one should quit when ahead?
It's a comedy, and it's not about giving a message of any kind. Of course, (smiles) I'm not preaching that you should do hera pheri to earn money. There are many ways to go and make money, but this is also a way. And this is a way lots of people try out, and while it's nothing to be proud of, Raju's not a guy who goes about harming people. He does harmless little cons, and ends up being a very lovable character.
Neeraj (Vora, the director) has talked about these characters turning into a franchise, a series. So there might be a Hera Pheri III and IV. Are you open to keep doing these films?
It all depends on how the second film goes. Let's wait and see what the audience thinks. It's too far-fetched to think about that now. I just hope Phir Hera Pheri does well.
What kind of homework does a sequel need?
(Laughs) I didn't do anything. Just before starting the shoots, I watched Hera Pheri all over again and began working |

Urmila shakes a leg for the telly
The second season of dance show Boogie Woogie that starts on June 9, will kick off in style with Bollywood actress Urmila Matondkar doing a jig. What makes this appearance even more special is the fact that Urmila will re-unite with her first co-star Ravi Behl in this show. Urmila admitted having a great time while shooting for Boogie Woogie. 揑 usually stay away from television appearances. But I am glad I agreed to this one. I had so much fun, |

Shamita Shetty - Yet to arrive
Six years since her first appearance in Bollywood, Shamita Shetty continues to be known just as Shilpa Shetty's younger sister!
Six years since her debut in the blockbuster Mohabbaten (2000), Shamita Shetty continues to be known just as Shilpa Shetty's younger sister. Since then Shamita has worked in a few more multi starrer movies like Wajahh: A Reason to Kill, Bewafaa, Zeher and Fareb and done item numbers in a couple of films. However, a lead role that would signal her arrival in Bollywood has eluded her.
Her branding as an Item girl notwithstanding, Shamita has actually done just two item songs, Sharara sharara... in Mere Yaar Ki Shaadi Hai (2002) and Chori pe chori... in Saathiya (2002). Sharara sharara... was a chart topper but Shamita laments, "...its different when you do item songs for a Yashraj banner!". Shamita, like her sister Shilpa, is a good dancer, a talent she says they have inherited from their father.
Shamita is finally appearing in a lead role now in a long delayed film, Mohabbat Ho Gayi Hai Tumse with costar Chander Chur Singh. Sanjay Dutt makes a special appearance in the Satish Khanna production which has been directed by debutante Rishi Talwar. The film music was released in June 2005 but did not attract much attention. The film is due to released on June 9, 2006.
The film industry had almost forgotten Shamita until she surfaced in Mohit Suri's Zeher opposite Emran Hashami, where she played a tough cop in Goa Police Force. She got rave reviews for her acting and established her credentials as a serious actor.
For good or bad Shamita has worked with a number of debutant directors. Besides Mohabbat Ho Gayi Hai Tumse her other films with debutante directors were Deepak Tajori's Fareb, with Manoj Bajapai and sister Shilpa Shetty, Mohit Suri抯 Zeher and Shaad Ali's Saathiya.
Shamita is known for being pretty comfortable doing bold scenes. Sometime back, talking about her role in Dharmesh Darshan's Bewafaa, Shamita had said, "Every girl in the industry wants the sex symbol tag." She, however, clarified that she did the kissing scene with Manoj Bajpai because the director asked her for it at the last minute.
Even though Shamita has yet to arrive she does have a following of her own, largely because she is considered glamorous, hot and sexy! She says she works hard in the gym to keep a slim figure. She is often spotted in parties and film premiers, with sister Shilpa Shetty. Glamorously dressed and with a voluptuous figure she never fails to attract media attention!

Little 'Sen'sation
RIYA SEN gets candid in an interview, talks about her childhood and her image-make over.
Naughty child:
I hated going to school and studies. I used to sleep in class (laughs). I disliked waking up early in the morning and going to school.
But still I did courses in fashion designing because I believe education is a must for everybody as it builds character. I was crazy about the canteen food and I used to love swimming. But now due to my busy schedule there's no time for such luxuries.
Nostalgia :
My first birthday gift was a toy car from my parents. My sister got a cycle. We used to drive all the time and had lots of fun.
Now I don't drive though! I used to see my mother applying make-up and I would then use her cosmetics whenever she was not at home.
I think I was five when I first tried applying make-up. I used to paint a lot and even today I paint whenever I get time. Singing has always been one of my hobbies, maybe I'll take up singing seriously later one day...
Jealous bones:
I used to fight with my mother a lot because I always thought she pampered my sister more. Arguments were a regular happening. Not any more though.
The 'sen' legacy:
I always wanted to be an actress. I couldn't think of anything else. I admire my mother and grandmother a lot. Before getting into films, I took training and learnt classical dance.
No doubt, I didn't have to go through auditions and struggle like some others but I still did it on my own. I didn't directly venture into films. First I did Ads and videos and later I got into films.
Little hands at work:
I have offers for lead roles but I really am not comfortable with most of those scripts. I am happier doing better quality films even if they are multi-starrer. And honestly I want to get out of this sex-kitten image. I want to go for an image make-over, do some different films.
Lovely Gujarat!
I love Gujarati food |

Riya Sen, Koena Mitra and Tanushree Dutta caught in a fracas
Bengali beauties Riya Sen and Koena Mitra are working together in Subhash Ghai抯 film Apna Sapna Money Money. However as usual when two beautiful actresses are in one film, there is bound to be a clash of egos and catfights. According to sources from the film, Koena and Riya too don抰 see eye to eye on many occasions. The sources also claim that Koena suddenly started developing an inferiority complex and in a fit of jealousy started spreading rumours on the sets that Riya has had a face lift. It was also claimed that Riya too later made allegation of Koena herself having a face-lift.
However according to director of the film, Sangeth Sivan, Koena herself was looking different after a hiatus from the shooting schedule. At the music launch of Ghai抯 film Shaadi Se Pehle, both actresses were present for the event. Director Sivan says 揑 did ask Koena what she had done to her face, as she was looking different from the last time I saw her. But Koena said that as she had extracted a tooth, her face was swollen. |

Amitabh Bachchan supports Aamir Khan
Mega superstar Amitabh Bachchan has said that Aamir Khan had every right to express his opposition provided it was within the purview of the Constitution.
Aamir is at the center of the controversy after he expressed his views on the resettlement of people affected by the Narmada project.
"Every person has the right to express his views... Our country is a democratic republic and every person enjoys the freedom to say whatever he wants and express his opposition," Bachchan told a TV news channel on Saturday.
At the same time Aamir's detractors also have a democratic right to express their opinion within the Constitution, Bachchan said.
Bachchan reiterated his support in a press conference in Mumbai saying, "I am with Aamir."
Bachchan, however, went on to refute the view that the film industry has not supported Aamir after the latter was targeted by the BJP.
"It is wrong to think that Aamir is not getting support from the industry. Every individual faces ups and downs in his life梩he film fraternity stands united. Everyone has the right to express himself.
Aamir is part of the democratic set-up of the country and he has all the right to say anything梩o protest or not to protest. The same is true for the other side. Within the limits of the law and democratic framework of the country, anyone can speak his mind," Bachchan said.
Meanwhile, Union I&B minister Priya Ranjan Dasmunshi met Fanaa producer Yash Chopra and director Kunal Kohli in Mumbai to discuss the issue.
Theatres in Gujarat have decided not to screen the film following Aamir's refusal to apologise for remarks he made regarding the resettlement of people affected by the Sardar Sarovar Dam project and the demolition of roadside shrines in Vadodara.
Kohli said, "Dasmunshi has told us that he will resolve the issue as soon as possible." Prime minister Manmohan Singh also come out in support of Aamir, saying that every citizen has the right to freedom of speech and expression.
On Friday, Aamir gave cheques of Rs 5 lakh each to the chief minister's relief funds of Gujarat, Maharashtra, MP and Rajasthan in aid of project-affected people.

How Esha got her groove back
The obvious first梬hat was your brief on portraying the woman in Vikram Bhatt抯 real-life relationship in Ankahee?
Honestly, I don抰 think I抦 playing Sushmita Sen. Yes, I do play a Miss World winner who is gorgeous and powerful. But Vikram Bhatt narrated the story to me like any other. I never thought of the character as based on Sushmitaji抯 persona, simply because my director hadn抰 conveyed anything different either.
Did that influence you?
Kavya Krishnan is a vulnerable, young woman, who despite all her strengths finds herself helpless in a particular situation. In her efforts to protect herself, she does a lot of things that actually go against her. I could empathise with her. In any case, I never knew Vikram or Sushmitaji when they were dating.
You have said that playing this character left you drained.
I had to feel Kavya抯 pain to bring out the essence of her character. My approach to my characters depends on my directors. My homework is restricted to thinking like the woman I抦 playing. This time Vikram drove me really deep into the character of Kavya. That was very draining.
Negative roles seem to work for you like they did in Dhoom and Dus.
Well, it抯 negative only from an overview. What Kavya does is not considered right by our society. But put aside convention, look only at her emotions and then judge her. What she does is not really negative.
How much did you work on your appearance and body language?
My producer Rongita Nandy is very thorough on these matters. We actually went the whole hog with photo-shoots with crowns. At the same time, most of my scenes in the film don抰 have much to do with pageants as much as with the vulnerable, lonely woman that Kavya is in her personal life.
We did work on my costumes and hairstyle梐fter all I am a model in the film, and that抯 very different from my own athletic build, which is more suited to portray someone like Sania Mirza.
Ameesha Patel and your director are personally very close. Did that make you insecure, despite you being the pivot of the story?
I have only one scene with Ameesha in the film. But I抦 not insecure. Give me a one-scene role in a film and I will hit a century.
Aftab was your first co-star. How was it doing another film together?
He has matured and improved tremendously since then. As I said, most of the scenes were demanding, and if your co-star isn抰 good you can end up looking like a fool. Aftab抯 skills as an actor made things easier.
What do you think went wrong with Pyare Mohan?
As a professional actor, I抦 no one to judge senior filmmakers. I loved working with Induji (Indra Kumar) in both Masti and Pyare Mohan.
Which projects do we see you in next?
I am doing just two films梠ne is Meghna Gulzar抯 Honeymoon with Fardeen Khan, again for Pritish Nandy Communications. In this, I play a simple, typically Indian girl but in Anubhav Sinha抯 Cash with Riteish Deshmukh and Zayed Khan, I get into some action. Despite the kind of roles I did in Dhoom and Dus, I did not really kick butt in them. In Cash, I will.
Your sister Ahaana reportedly plans to turn director like your mom. Dad抯 a producer too. What about you?
Come on, yaar, let me enjoy acting for now! I have lots of dreams for later.

Mallika approached Abhishek to accompany her in厖.!
Everybody knows sexy Mallika Sherawat had attended Cannes Film Festival last year to promote her first international venture 'The Myth' with Jackie Chan. Mallika had walked red carpet and her outfit was immensely showy and seducing. But not many know Mallika had approached Jr. Bachchan for accompanying her in Cannes. Needless to say, Abhishek had turned down her 'so provocative' offer. He didn't want to play escort to our Sherawat sizzler.

'Bekas suami saya bukan penagih dadah dan perceraian kami tiada kena mengena dengan masalah itu.
'Saya berani bersumpah sepanjang saya mengenali Keifli ketika berkawan, bercinta, berkahwin dan kini berkawan semula, dia bukan penagih dadah.
'Saya bercakap demikian bukan kerana saya ada hubungan dengannya, malah antara kami tiada hubungan istimewa seperti dulu. Bagaimanapun, dia tetap bapa dua anak saya. Dia ada kehidupannya dan saya dengan hidup saya,' tegas Linda.

Aamir-Kajol show! Ajay changed his mind!
There were reports that actor Ajay Devgan will be present as chief guest in a show in US where Aamir and Kajol will perform together for the first time.
The report also says that the organizer of the show Vijay Taneja has offered a whopping amount to Ajay to be present in the show only.
As per latest, Ajay Devgan will not be attending the show. The actor of principal has turned down Taneja's offer. "They wanted me to be the chief guest. But I'm not going for the shows," clarified Ajay recently, who is now in London busy shooting Abbas-Mustan's film.
A source close to him said, to be present there in the show, where wife Kajol will shake her legs with Aamir Khan, wouldn't make him quite comfortable. "He didn't feel comfortable, so he refused," the source said.

Shah Rukh抯 a Salman pet
Imagine Shah Rukh Khan prancing to Kajra re under a banyan tree, barefoot and draped in a black fur coat.
Sorry, this is no don抯 son抯 birthday. It is also not the Bollywood Badshah we are talking about.
Our Shah Rukh is a sloth bear, performing under the leafy banyan tree near Bolpur town because his owner, Sheikh Salman, has chosen the place.
Salman, 32, spreads a square piece of cloth and starts playing the dugdugi (a rattle).
Shah Rukh, tied to the end of a rope, walks round the periphery of the cloth, sometimes trying to stand up on his hinds in rhythm with the rattle.

When Abhishek yelled at Rani
Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna is a story about broken relationships. The trailer, in typical Kabhi Khushi Khabie Gham style, opens introducing us to our couples -- Shah Rukh Khan-Preity Zinta and Abhishek Bachchan-Rani Mukerji.
Both marriages are fast on the downward spiral. Abhishek yells at Rani, asking why his wife won't sleep with him. Rani snaps back that there's more to marriage than sharing a bed.
Preity tells Shah Rukh that he's taking out his failed career frustrations on his marriage, and that's sad. SRK, eyes brimming with tears, turns and asks, 'you know what's sadder? us.'
The couples are estranged, and interlinked -- their paths cross. And then there's Amitabh Bachchan, sharing some relationship wisdom as he wheezes from a hospital bed.
Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna, a typically larger-than-life Karan Johar film, seems filled with heavy dialogues, tons of melodrama, and overdone emotions galore. And we all know how the Bollywood audience loves that.
Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna is slated to release in August.

King Khan is alive
A South African prankster falsely reported the death of top actor Shah Rukh Khan in an accident because he could not spell the first name of his original choice, Hrithik Roshan.
Call centre worker Aman Singh was marched off his work premises after an investigation revealed his computer as the source of an e-mail claiming that Shah Rukh had died in an accident.
Singh copied and pasted the masthead of a leading South African news website, news24.com, to make his message look authentic.
Although, crudely designed, it conned hundreds of fans who hurriedly passed on the message to others.
In the e-mail, Singh claimed that Khan had been killed when his car hit a tree, and that his death had been confirmed by the actor's manager.
The e-mail sparked frantic calls to media in South Africa and India, where Khan was busy filming for his next film, "Don". News24.com quickly traced the source of the e-mail to Aman Singh after the website was inundated with queries about the story.
Singh tendered apologies after both his employer and news24.com called for strong action, saying that he had merely intended the story as a prank to be played on his cousins, who are ardent fans of both Hrithik Roshan and Shah Rukh Khan.
The prankster said he had never expected the e-mail to be spread so widely, and was shocked himself to learn of the chaos he had created.
Many fans were furious at Singh's prank.
One said: "It was the sickest thing to do. How would he feel if someone spread news like that to his family and friends - that he had died while he was still very much alive?"
One fan even burst into tears after reading the false news.
Fatima Laher said: "I sent it to at least twenty of my friends and family who, like me, are diehard Shah Rukh fans.
"This man is mad to do a thing like this."
