Anyone knows if we've ever testfired the R77 to prove it's effectiveness? Russian BVR missiles are yet to be proven in actual battle.. so it'll be nice to see how it compares to it's western counterparts. |

the missiles on display is obvious a "display" model, its tail fins gave it away pretty easily.
some malaysian claimed that the R-77 came with the MIG-29N decades ago, the RMAF even simulated the R-77 launch against the RAAF F-18C/D several years back during joint exercise.
however despite all the claims, its now believed that the R-77 was not delivered, in fact the russians didnt provided a single missile with the MIG-29N and malaysia was forced to purchase old missiles from ukranian stocks (R-77 not included). the R-77 is now believed to come in with the SU-30MKM order.
is the missile delivered? given the past events, only GOD knows.
BUT what we do know is the russians will provide "EXPORT VERSION" (aka downgraded version) if they do deliver the missiles. according to janes defence weekly report, there are in general 3 grades of russians R-77 version; the ones used by the russian air force (no downgrade - obviously), the ones they sold to china and india (one level downgrade), the ones they sold to "commercial client" (two level downgrade).
the export downgrade is neccesary to the russians for 3 reason;
1. maintain russian superiority
2. limit leakage to american
3. money money money (cut cost)
furthermore, given malaysia background, being islamic (yes, the russians are butchering muslims in their backyard) and the fact that malaysia will bend whenever america ask, plus the fact the malaysian aint paying 100% in cold hard cash, all give the russians good reason why they would be hesitant to providing the R-77. |

well, actually to add to the confusion, the RMAF states that the R-77 missile they are using is denoted as the R77RVV-AV.
the problem is, there is no russian R-77 missile version call AV as far as i know.
and there are no report of russia exporting any R-77 missile except the R77RVV-AE (export downgrade version) to countries like india and china.
so either RMAF make a mistake in calling the missile AV, or malaysia got something far worst then the export version of the R-77 and so have to be given a new designation AV. i dont know for sure. |

greenpower, u said obviously its a display model, i wonder if u were there or have seen that missiles... are u in the airforce? im looking for prove whether the missiles exist in RMAF inventory ..
last time lots of ppl. argued (especially our neighbours la) about the existence of harpoon in RMAF inventory.. when they saw it been deployed by our F18 then everyone just keep quiet...
if u donno then dont make any stupid comment la.. its base on your assumption only.. if u have any proof than only i can believe u.. |

Kita tau Ruskies macam US gak, export variant of their missiles will be dumbed a bit due to their own interests.
Soalnya, how to make do with the arms of choice at hand? Atleast Indonesians dah buat dumb free fall bombs for their Su-30MKI & Su-27 .... kita? |
