Aarti Chhabria plays Tarannum

Aarti Chhabria plays the infamous bar dancer Tarannum in 'Shoot out at Lokhandwala', produced by Sanjay Gupta and directed by Apoorva Lakhia. Chhabria is following the script blindly to ensure a faithful portrayal Tarannum's character. However, the actress has done ample research on the bar dancer's life via newspapers and magazines and is fascinated by her character.

Bar dancer Tarannum Khan hit the headlines following an income-tax raid on a bar that revealed large cash and property investment details. Tarannum was arrested after she revealed in a television interview that she indulged in betting. She was also under the police scanner for her alleged proximity to some Sri Lankan cricketers.

When Lara became Ara Ra

While filming the last leg of 'Bhagam Bhag' in Chennai, Priyadarshan happened to call Lara, "Ara ra go and change your outfit for the next shot quickly!" Well, Lara Dutta did respond and like an obedient gal, walked up to her van to slip into her costumes. She was too scared to walk up to him and demand a rectification. Later on, someone from the sets reminded Priyan of the boo-boo.

Shilpa Shetty set to steal hearts with METRO

No wonder they say that Mumbai is a city that never sleeps. With shooting running late into the wee hours of the morning, Metro seems to taking a grim turn.

If Sharman抯 happy-go-lucky character did lighten up the mood, the last few days of shooting were full of sensuality and sexual undertones. Anurag Basu抯 signature touch is beginning to show in every frame. Bobby Singh抯 dramatic lighting is bringing the emotions alive

Success came early to me: Preity

Preity Zinta is riding high on the success of Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna and now she is all set for the release of Jaan-e-Mann.

You are in London to launch and promote your film Jaan-e-Mann. What is so different about this film that you have not done earlier?

In the past I have played a crazy girl, an unwed mother, a prostitute, a women who has divorced her husband, a journalist and so on. If you look at it, I have played almost every kind of character. But the character that I play in Jaan-e-Mann is different than what I have done earlier.Firstly, it is very simple. Secondly, it goes through a certain transformation graph. It starts with this crazy and bubbly girl who transforms into a serious woman. Then there is little dreamier and dramatic bit that the film goes through.I think what is different is that it is a simple story which is beautifully told. I think that is where the film wins.

After shedding tears in Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna are you looking forward to lots of smiles and laughter?

After KANK I抦 glad that Jaan-e-Mann will bring smiles on my face. While shooting for KANK I had started walking without moving even when I used to be off the sets.Karan was acting like this 憄ause police

I don't sing the words, I feel them: Rekha

Rekha has just sung one of Mohammed Rafi's most difficult ghazals, "Din dhal jaye" from the film "Guide", for a new comedy, "Kudiyon Ka Hai Zamana" in which she plays the lead.

Having heard the song she played for me I can vouch for this - Rekha has one of the best, most nuanced and sensitive singing voices, far better than some of the so-called professional singers today.

However, Rekha doesn't think that she is a good singer.

"Oh, I think a lot of actresses sing very well. Tabu sings beautifully. And have you heard Madhuri Dixit sing? She has an amazing voice," Rekha told IANS.

Tell her she reminds you of Geeta Dutt and she exclaims, "Funny, you say that! My sister says I could well be Geeta Dutt's sibling. No, I've never trained to be a singer."

"You're just being kind," she brushed aside the compliment. "My god, I've such a terrible singing voice. I'm not a singer. I don't sing the words. I feel them.

"And Shailendra saab's words in 'Din dhal jaye' are so filled with layered feelings it's easy for any sensitive person to drown in them. My rule for singing is the same as living - I feel life. Feelings last forever."

Why this particular ghazal composed by Sachin Dev Burman?

"I didn't really choose the song. I was just humming it on the sets one day when the director, Amar Bhutala, overheard me. He said, 'M'aam, you please sing this song for our film.' I protested that there was no situation for it. But he insisted that a situation will be created.

"It comes on when my screen-husband and I patch up. 'Din dhal jaye' is supposed to be the song I used to sing for him in the college. I tease him with this song.

"I asked my director not to retain the original orchestration, just incidental natural sounds connected with the night. That's tough to do, because all the weaknesses in my voice show up much more clearly without orchestra."

She recorded the song on a computer and sent it over.

"Now when I hear it, I just want to drown myself."

"I just sat on the computer and gave a scratch recording to my director. I was sure of one thing. I didn't want to sing it like Rafi saab. No one can sing it like him except Lata didi, who has sung it so beautifully in the album 'Shraddhanjali'.

"It was surreal like most things I've done in my life. It just happened. In fact, one should never delude oneself into believing that anything happens by one's own will. There's a force guiding and lifting you to wherever life takes you. You're powerless on your own."

When you wonder how she negotiated such intricate notes Rekha laughs. "That's what Simiji (Garewal) had said when I sang it on her (TV programme) 'Rendezvous'. She couldn't believe I could scale those high notes of Lataji in the song 'Yeh kahan aa gaye hum' (from 'Silsila'). Simiji said she couldn't sing it. But, well, I didn't think whether I could or couldn't. I just did it."

Is she satisfied with her singing?

"The day I'm satisfied with what I do, I will die. I'll never be content. But I'm grateful. I think I'm grateful for every slap, every painful failure. I've put them all behind me.

"There should be no question marks, only exclamation marks in life. I'm as strong or weak as the next person. But I haven't mastered the art of control over every situation. I'm trying to get there."

Rekha has two releases coming up before this year is through.

"Goutam Ghose's 'Yatra' and the comedy 'Kudiyon Ka Zamana'. Both are very different from each other. I like to take up roles as a challenge, like I did the old woman's role in 'Krissh'. I haven't seen the film. I've been travelling. But I'm happy to know it's a huge success."

Kareena has no qualms doing sexy scenes!

Kareena Kapoor has no qualms doing sexy scenes if she can rely enough on the concerned director. In her last release 慜mkara', she has huge bold scenes with Ajay Devgan and also in her forthcoming film 慏on' her hot moves to the raunchy number 慪eh Mera Dil', which is already in the air as promo, creating ripples. 揑n 慜mkara', I trusted Vishal Bhardwaj and got ready for bold scenes. If I trust my directors then there is no problem in doing bold scenes because then you know you are in safe hands,

Salman dressed up like a Girl

Salman Khan will be seen in girl抯 attire in Sajid Nadiadwala抯 soon-to-be-released flick Jaaneman.

Sallu who plays the role of a rock star in the film was initially reluctant to sport the disguise of a woman in the film, but after hours of persuasion he finally agreed.

The assistant director of the film says, 揟he actor used to spend hours discussing the costume and the make-up for his make-over. He didn抰 want to make it look cheap. Salman has an amazing body and it was difficult to make him look petite. Finally, however, he did the scene without any fuss.

Who do u think should be the Brand Ambassador of Coastal region Aishwarya Rai or Vijay Mallya?

This was the question posed by the newly appointed president of the Kanara Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) John Prasad Menezes. At the press briefing held on Wednesday, Sep 27, John placed the chambers interest in having a Brand Ambassador for the Coastal region who will spread goodwill of the region.

While several states have their brand ambassadors especially from the show biz, coastal region too must have one, he said adding that a powerful brand ambassador would help showcase the region at the national level. In order to finalise the representative, the chamber will invite suggestions from the public, John added.

A catchy phrase and a mascot will also be required to place the region attractively at the national level, he said.
