In what is seen as a bid to reverse the tide of support for the Pakatan Rakyat, Prime Minister Najib Razak has started to hint that Chief Minister Taib Mahmud will be bundled out soon, but whether the PM realizes it or not, it may also be himself and his controversial policies that Sarawakians may want to send a message to.
"Taib has been in power for 30 years and BN (Najib's coalition) for 54 years. If they had wanted to remove Taib, they should have done so decades ago and save the Sarawakian people so much pain and poverty," PKR Sarawak chief Baru Bian told Malaysia Chronicle.
"If Najib has the power to remove Taib, he would done so before the state assembly was dissolved, not now when his back is to the wall. How can he remove Taib, when he dare not even order the Malaysian Anti Corruption Commission to investigate Taib? If Najib stands for justice, when didn't his federal government put a stop to the rape of the Penan women. Why did they allow it to happen over and over again for decades and now say, it is Taib's fault. The fact is, they are hand in glove, both are the same, both are disgraceful and both should be voted out."
Taib has promised to step down in two years' time but that has not gone down well with Sarawakians, who fear he will pass the baton to a family member, who will continue his regime of oppression and corruption.
They also want him to be investigated and the loot that he and his BN cronies have allegedly taken to be impounded and returned to the state.
Stunning manifesto
Since campaigning officially kicked off last week, the Pakatan led by Opposition Leader Anwar Ibrahim has gained unprecedented support. Despite best efforts by their rivals to hamper them, Pakatan leaders from PKR, DAP and PAS captured the imagination of some 2.5 million Sarawakians with their Berubah-lah or Change Now slogan.
In particular, Sarawakians were attracted by the Pakatan's 10-point that vowed to probe Taib and his cronies and return any ill-gotten wealth back to the people.
Despite its vast natural resources and petroleum revenue, Sarawak is Malaysia's poorest state.
Yet on Sunday, Najib assured Sarawakians that Taib had already promised to "go". He urged them not to listen to the "lies" of the Pakatan. Not once did the PM mention the mountain of graft allegations against Taib or that he will order the MACC to initiate a probe against the Sarawkian leader.
“Believe me, believe in me, when the time is right, we carry this out. Do not be hasty and believe in the opposition’s lies. Ladies and gentlemen, do not worry. We have made plans so that a change will happen in the Sarawak top leadership, a planned and organised change.  If we make a shock change, a state of uncertainty will ensue,” Najib told a rally in Kuching on Sunday night.

Semalam kat Miri jumpa sorang abang tuh. Dlm kereta semua t-shirt parti dia ada. Lawak betul. Dia cakap musim carik makan. Hari penamaan calon bawak bendera DAP dpt RM30... malam tambal poster SUPP dpt RM25 utk kerja tak sampai 5 minit. Lepas tu tangkap la DAP punya. Bila tanya undi sapa. Tak pasti lagi. 60% SUPP 40% DAP. Paling lawak, dia tak ngundi di Miri. Dia pengundi kat Kuching..

KUCHING: Sarawak has disputed its hardcore poverty rate of 2% given by the federal authorities –the state thinks it should be higher.
The figure, which is below the national average, was provided by the Economic Planning Unit (EPU) during a dialogue on the 10th Malaysia Plan here last week, said State Assistant Minister in the Chief Minister’s Department (Human Resources and Training) Datin Fatimah Abdullah.
Fatimah said the EPU’s figure could adversely affect Sarawak’s request for more federal funding to eradicate hardcore poverty. “I am quite sceptical of the EPU’s figure. It (Sarawak’s hardcore poverty rate) cannot be less than the national average. I think it is higher,” she told reporters when asked during her visit to the Sarawak Family Planning Association here yesterday.
The Federal Government has set this year as its target to totally eradicate hardcore poverty in the country. Fatimah said the poverty rate figures provided by the Education Department, Welfare Department and other agencies always differed. She believed that the national poverty survey had not covered inaccessible settlements in the interior of the state. There are more than 5,000 longhouses and villages in rural Sarawak. Fatimah hoped that the survey could be extended to the settlements unreachable by road to get an accurate picture. She also voiced her concern over urban poverty and the plight of rural migrants. “Because of their lack of education and skills, their incomes are low. Compounded by the high cost of living in towns, these rural migrants have become part of the urban poor,” she added.

seblom ni EPU ckp 2% jekk...pastu Muhyiddin up ke 3%...kalo k'jaan negeri s'wak sendiri x caya ckp dr federal pe lg rakyat kebanyakan!

Yg best DAP ni dia org tak tamak. Dia org nak bertanding kat kawasan yg mereka rasa boleh menang je.

Utk kawasan2 kampung tak ramai yg sudi jengok. Tinggal la aclon2 tu terkontang kanting sorang menawan pengundi. Calon2 BN mempunyai kekuatan kat sini lagi pun dia org mmg dah dikenali oleh masyarakat setempat

Najib: We have discussed Sarawak succession plan
By SHARON LING and ZORA CHAN
[email protected]

KUCHING: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak has given his assurance that Tan Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud will step down as Sarawak Chief Minister some time after the state election.

Najib said he had discussed the leadership succession with Taib, who had agreed that it would be done.

“Don’t worry, the change in leadership will be done in a planned manner. We don’t want it to be done suddenly as this would lead to uncertainty,” he told the crowd at a meet-the-people gathering at the MBKS Indoor Stadium here last night.

Urging the people to trust him, Najib said they should not listen to the Opposition’s claims that Taib would stay on as Chief Minister after the election.

“Look at Lim Kit Siang, he has been the leader of DAP for 42 years. Karpal Singh is 72 years old and he’s also still there,” he said in a thinly-veiled criticism of the DAP leaders who had frequently attacked Taib’s 30-year tenure as Chief Minister.

DAP adviser Lim had also claimed that Taib would not step down after the state election.

Taib had announced last month that he would hand over power in mid-term after the election, which will be held this Saturday.

Najib also went on the offensive against the Opposition’s slogan of “change” for the election, saying only Barisan Nasional could bring transformation to Sarawak.

“This is the difference from what the Opposition says.

“They can only promise but a promise to deliver is no guarantee that it will be done.

“Barisan not only promises but we can deliver and we have delivered,” he said.

He added that Barisan planned changes in a systematic way so as not to create uncertainty, which would be bad for business.

The Prime Minister said the reason why he kept coming to Sarawak was to bring change and help the people.

“I promise you that if you give us a strong mandate in the election, there will be more changes for Sarawak,” he said to applause from the 2,000-strong crowd.

He called on the people to support Barisan’s Chinese candidates so that the community would continue to be represented in the Government.

This would make it easier for the community’s problems to be brought up to the Government and be resolved, he said.

Also present were Home Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Tan Sri Koh Tsu Koon and SUPP candidates Sim Kiang Chiok, Prof Dr Sim Kui Hian, Datuk Alfred Yap, Sih Hua Tong and Tan Joo Phoi.

lagi permainan kotor ....

BN ugut pemilik rumah tumpangan PAS

"Dia seorang ahli perniagaan. Dia bagitau kami, kalau benarkan kami menyewa, lesennya akan ditarik balik. Kerana takut, dia menyuruh kami keluar," katanya.

Andrew Ong
