Injury blow rocks Gunners
ARSENAL duo William Gallas and Mikael Silvestre booooo... are out for up to three weeks.
Gunners boss Arsene Wenger expects Kolo Toure to return to action against Bolton on Saturday after a groin injury.
But the Frenchman is definitely without Toure's fellow defenders Gallas and Silvestre.
Wenger said: "Unfortunately, we have lost Gallas with a hamstring injury.
"We lost Silvestre too with a thigh problem last week as well.
"I think Gallas and Silvestre will be out for three weeks."

Ade backs 'indispensable' Gallas
Gunners striker praises team-mate's decision to go public
Ade : Kachak tak kalau aku nganga macam ni?
Gelas : yeahhh..macam faizal tahir ..."Rock Nganga!!!!!"
Emmanuel Adebayor has described William Gallas as Arsenal's 'rock' and believes the defender was correct to publicly criticise the Gunners.
France international Gallas was stripped of the club captaincy in November after slamming his team-mates' for not possessing the stomach for a fight and revealing rifts in the home dressing room at Emirates Stadium.
But Adebayor has backed the centre-back and feels his colleague gave Arsenal's faint Premier League title hopes a necessary shot in the arm.
"There is some truth in what he said," said the Togo striker. "Someone had to say these things, to make each person face up to their responsibilities. If he had said nothing, where would we be today?
Experience"Gallas has always been like that - he has experience, he has won titles, played in a World Cup final.
"He doesn't throw these thoughts around lightly. He said something because it was necessary to do it.
"He is indispensable to the team. He is Arsenal's rock - his behaviour since the armband was taken off him proves that."
With midfield lynchpin Cesc Fabregas out of action for up to four months because of injury, many have questioned Arsenal's ability to challenge for the title.
MentalityBut Adebayor is not giving up hope, although he admits the team's mentality has to change between now and the end of the season.
"It's a question of confidence," he added in Aujourd'hui Sport. "At the moment, when we take the lead, we are scared.
"We tremble until the final whistle because the team is young and we have conceded several goals in the last few minutes of matches.
"We are lacking a bit of luck. We haven't been on top form since the start of the season. Perhaps we will perform better towards the end (of the season)." |

WENGER MAKES CASE FOR DEFENCE
Arsenal continue to track playmaker Andrei Arshavin, but Arsene Wenger knows defensive stability will prove just as key to his team's chances of success in 2009.
The Gunners are keen on securing the services of Arshavin, who shot to prominence with Russia during the European Championships, but not at the £20million touted by his club Zenit St Petersburg.
A deal for around half that figure, though, could yet be reached during the transfer window as Wenger looks to secure the "exceptional talent" to bolster his promising squad - but one which will be without captain Cesc Fabregas until early April because of injury.
Wenger believes Arsenal have come through a difficult spell of a stop-start campaign with greater strength for the battles ahead as they look to force themselves back into the Barclays Premier League title race - where they have a current deficit of 10 points - and to have an impact in the Europe.
Perhaps somewhat uncharacteristically, the Gunners have been less than watertight at the back, and are well behind the top three on goal difference.
Wenger feels that has changed in recent games, but the Arsenal manager will now have to reassess his defensive options following an injury to Mikael Silvestre.
"We have definitely become more solid over the last few weeks," Wenger said. "As a team we are better defensively and I also think that the creative spark will come back quickly, as confidence builds.
"When you can be consistent, the confidence returns and with that the creative side of the game will come.
"We have made a small change to the structure of the team lately, which has helped us to be more solid defensively.
"We have included more defensive players in the team, which I felt was needed especially away from home.
"However, the other side of that is, inevitably, you create less.
"There is always a balance to be achieved, but I think we are getting it because with just one up front at Villa Park, we scored twice and could have had more."
With Kolo Toure - a reported £10million target for Manchester City - another defender struggling for fitness, much more responsibility has been placed on former skipper William Gallas.
The veteran Frenchman was stripped of the armband earlier this season when he publicly questioned his team-mates' heart for the fight.
Wenger, though, believes Gallas has come out of the situation with a renewed determination.
And striker Emmanuel Adebayor feels his colleague probably had a point.
"There is some truth in what he said," noted the Togo striker, who was this week named African Player of the Year at an awards ceremony in Abu Dhabi.
"Someone had to say these things, to make each person face up to their responsibilities. If he had said nothing, where would we be today?
"Gallas has always been like that - he has experience, he has won titles, played in a World Cup final.
"He doesn't throw these thoughts around lightly. He said something because it was necessary to do it.
"He is indispensable to the team. He is Arsenal's rock - his behaviour since the armband was taken off him proves that."
Adebayor - whom himself has not hit the heights of last season when he finished with 30 goals - maintains the Gunners are still very much fighting for honours.
"It's a question of confidence," the striker said.
"At the moment, when we take the lead, we are scared. We tremble until the final whistle because the team is young and we have conceded several goals in the last few minutes of matches.
"We are lacking a bit of luck. We haven't been on top form since the start of the season.
"erhaps we will perform better towards the end." |

N`ZOGBIA PONDERS FLYING NEST
Newcastle winger Charles N'Zogbia has reiterated his desire to leave the club, admitting Arsenal would be his first-choice destination.
N'Zogbia revealed at the end of last year that he was keen to head for the St James' Park exit and the 22-year-old now claims a move to Tottenham or Aston Villa this month is very much in the pipeline.
"My agents are talking with Tottenham and Aston Villa," he told L'Equipe. "I'm waiting to see what will happen.
"From what they have told me, Arsenal could also be in the frame, but there hasn't been a direct approach from them.
"ersonally, I have a little preference for the Gunners but, whatever happens, they are three great and ambitious clubs. It's very flattering to see them interested in me.
"I've spoken to my bosses at the club. They know what my aims are and what I want to continue to progress.
"As soon as a big club knocks on the door with a good offer, I don't think they'll prevent me leaving.
"While waiting I'm continuing to train, without letting my head go down because I am above all a professional."
N'Zogbia joined Newcastle in 2004, with the Magpies paying a nominal sum to Le Havre for their youth team player.
But the former France Under-21 international admits the time has come for a move away from the club in order to attract the attention of Les Bleus coach Raymond Domenech.
He continued: "I've been here for four years. It's a club who have allowed me to discover the France youth team, and I thank them for that, but at some point you have to know how to aim higher.
"I am 22. It's an age where I have to be seen, especially with regards to aims that I have targeted for myself.
"I want to get into the France team as soon as possible and I feel that at Newcastle, that won't be possible.
"I'm at a turning point in my career."
However, N'Zogbia insists that whatever happens he would love to remain in England, even if Ligue 1 giants Lyon or Paris St Germain come calling.
"A return to France is not unforeseeable," he explained. "But personally I have always said that my priority is to remain in England.
"It's a league which I take pleasure from and which suits me well.
"Anyway, a return to France is not relevant because none of those clubs have contacted me."
N'Zogbia admitted that it was partly seeing his friend and compatriot Lassana Diarra secure a move to Real Madrid which pushed him to take a decisive step to clinching his own transfer.
"That's exactly the case," he said. "He's a player I've grown up with in football. When I see what he has done that gives me extra desire to set myself new targets, to do everything to have the same recognition.
"It's for that reason that I feel it's the right time to leave. In a career, you need titles and yet, at Newcastle, that's not possible.
"When I see certain friends playing in the Champions League or others like Lassana or Florent Sinama-Pongolle with the France team, it makes me drool. I say to myself: 'Why not me?"' |
