Helguera slams Real Madrid powerbrokers Calderon, Mijatovic

Valencia defender Ivan Helguera has slated the management at former club Real Madrid.

Helguera says the atmosphere at Real was far happier under Florentino Perez than what now exists with current president Ramon Calderon.

The centre-half snapped: "There is a world of difference between the two presidents.

"With Florentino, despite not winning anything in three years, people were happy because he did very important things for the club. Under Florentino the club evolved, with Calderon it has retracted."

On sports director Pedja Mijatovic, Helguera was equally as scathing: "He isn't qualified to be a sports director. He doesn't know how to treat people.

"In comparison, Jorge Valdano was a gentleman."

Ronaldo Could Not Wear Seven Here - Calder髇
Ram髇Calder髇 has assured that if Cristiano Ronaldo joined Real Madrid thenhe would not take the number seven off Ra鷏 and has even consideredretiring the number when the striker retires.
The Bernab閡 club's president was fielding questions from the club'ssupporters when he was asked what would happen if the Portuguese stararrived and demanded he wear the shirt.

However unlikely that isto happen this summer, Calder髇 reiterated that while Madrid seeks tosign the world's best players, Ra鷏 remains is symbolic to the club.

"Wedo not know if he is going to come, but he is not going to remove thenumber from Ra鷏, that is untouchable whoever joins," he said.

Ina homage to Ra鷏 and to the late Madrid favourite Juanito, Calder髇even suggested that he may retire the number seven shirt when thecurrent incumbent eventually hangs up his boots.

Juanito, whowas killed in a car accident in 1992, played for Madrid between 1977and 1987 and was such an idol that fans used to chant his name in theseventh minute of every game as a homage.

David Beckham'sarrival at the Spanish giants in 2003 saw the potential for a problemafter his time in the number seven shirt at Old Trafford, but theEnglish midfielder willingly chose number 23 rather than suggest Ra鷏give up his shirt.

Ronaldo states Real Madrid aim - report

Manchester United winger Cristiano Ronaldo has claimed he 'wants toplay for Real Madrid' -, according to respected Brazilian website Terra- and has vowed not to discuss the subject further until after Euro2008.

Terra claim to have carried out an exclusive interview with the Portugalinternational in which he said: 'I would like to play for Real Madrid but onlyif it is true they are ready to pay what Manchester United ask of them.
