Arsenal Keen On Serie A Defensive Duo - Reports
The Gunners are keen on Ogbonna and Diakite - but they will have to offer more cash in order to land them...

Arsenal are ready to make a double swoop for Lazio defender Mobido Diakite and Torino stopper Angelo Ogbonna as they look to add some muscle to the squad.

The Gunners are looking around for players in an attempt to patch up and repair the damage left by the injury to captain Cesc Fabregas.

According to La Gazzetta Dello Sport, the north London club have made enquiries over Torino's Ogbonna. The former Cassino player has been in Turin since 2006 but spent last year on-loan with Calabrian side Crotone.

The stopper can also adapt to play in midfield and it is believed Arsene Wenger is pushing ahead for his services.

As well as this, Lazio's Diakite has also raised eyebrows at the Emirates Stadium. The Sun claims Arsenal have tabled a €5.5 million bid for the versatile defender.

However, such a figure is unlikely to arouse president Claudio Lotito. Reports suggest the English side will have to double their offer for Diakite if they are to have any chance of convincing the Italians to part company with their man.

Lazio are unlikely to sell, though. The stopper is admired by coach Delio Rossi and he has earned a regular place in his starting XI this season; any chance of a January move to Arsenal seems unlikely.

Nicklas Bendtner's Gaffe Almost Cost Arsenal Points
Much maligned Arsenal forward Bendtner has managed to upset people despite scoring the winning goal at the weekend...

An Arsenal insider has informed The Sun that Nicklas Bendtner would have been in boss Arsene Wenger's bad books had he not come off the bench to score the late winner against Bolton Wanderers on Saturday.

The Trotters proved tough to break down for the North Londoners and appeared to have their number throughout. The insider claims that's because Bendtner disclosed Arsenal's line-up to the visitors three hours before kick-off.

Bendtner reportedly had words with Bolton man Fabrice Muamba, a former Arsenal youth player, who passed on the details to the away dressing room and gaffer Gary Megson.

The source explained: "One of Bolton’s staff told Arsene after the game they knew their team well before the team sheets were handed in.

"When Arsene asked how that was possible, the Bolton coach replied that Bendtner told them.

"Goodness knows the trouble Nicklas would have been in if he hadn’t scored the winning goal."

Giving Bendtner his goal six minutes from time was the least Bolton could do to repay the young Dane's hospitality!

Manchester City To Beat Arsenal To Andrei Arshavin - Report
Andrei Arshavin's proposed move to Arsenal may yet be scuppered by Manchester City.

Manchester City are reportedly set to beat Arsenal in the race for Zenit St Petersburg striker Andrei Arshavin, according to the Sunday Mirror.

Zenit have previously admitted they have been in discussions with the Gunners over a proposed transfer for Arshavin and it had been reported that the Russian side rejected Arsenal’s initial bid.

Whilst the Gunners are believed to have returned with an improved offer, they still appear to have fallen short of Zenit’s asking price with the striker’s wage demands also a potential problem.

However, City, who appear to have limitless financial resources following their takeover, are reportedly ready to hijack the deal and bring Arshavin to Eastlands.

The Sunday Mirror reports that the Sky Blues have agreed an £18 million deal with Zenit and that club official’s have also met with the striker and agreed to meet his wage demands.

Should the report prove to be correct it would undoubtedly be a huge blow to Arsenal and manager Arsene Wenger, who appeared to have made Arshavin their primary transfer target.

City, meanwhile, have already added Wayne Bridge to their ranks from Chelsea, yet have been frustrated so far in their attempts to add further players to their squad.

A bid for Blackburn Rovers’ striker Roque Santa Cruz has been rejected by Sam Allardyce's men and the Sky Blues have also so far failed in their attempts to sign West Ham United pair Scott Parker and Craig Bellamy.
