BMW Sauber sah tinggalkan F1

BERLIN - Pengeluar kereta terkemuka Jerman, BMW mengumumkan akan menarik diri daripada perlumbaan kereta Formula Satu (F1) pada penghujung musim ini.
BMW yang mengambil alih pasukan Sauber pada penghujung tahun 2005 menjelaskan, keputusan untuk menarik diri dibuat kerana ingin menggunakan sumber terhad mereka terhadap pembangunan di sektor lain.
"Kumpulan BMW tidak akan meneruskan kempen dalam F1 selepas penghujung musim 2009," kata Pengerusi dan Ketua Eksekutif BMW, Norbert Reithofer.
"Sumber kami amat diperlukan untuk digunakan dalam projek pembangunan teknologi pemanduan yang baru serta projek-projek lain,
"BMW bagaimanapun akan terus aktif melibatkan diri dalam perlumbaan motosport yang lain."
Sementara itu, Pengarah Motosport BMW, Mario Theissen menjelaskan mereka menerima keputusan tersebut dan akan memberi tumpuan penuh terhadap baki saingan musim terakhir ini.
"Sudah tentu kami pekerja-pekerja BMW di Hinwil dan Munich ingin meneruskan kempen dalam perlumbaan F1 dan membuktikan bahawa kami mampu untuk meraih kejayaan selepas tiga musim yang membanggakan," kata Theissen.
"Namun saya boleh faham mengapa keputusan ini dibuat dari perspektif korporat. Bagaimanapun kami akan fokus terhadap baki saingan musim ini dan menunjukkan semangat juang bagi menghasilkan keputusan yang terbaik."
BMW Sauber yang menduduki tempat ketiga keseluruhan bagi kategori pengeluar musim lepas, berdepan dengan musim yang sukar tahun ini apabila Nick Heidfeld dan Robert Kubica masing-masing sekadar menduduki tempat ke-13 dan 15.
"Kami hanya mengambil masa tiga tahun untuk meletakkan pasukan dalam kelompok tiga terbaik tahun lepas," tambah Theissen.

Olympic athletes to benefit from F1 technology
British sports men and women set to contest the London 2012 OlympicGames are now able to take advantage of Formula One-based technology inorder to aid their training; the government's UK Sport has signed adeal with McLaren Applied Technologies to be provided withrevolutionary electronic equipment.
The latest systems, which helped carry Lewis Hamilton to the F1 worldcrown last year, are developed by the McLaren sub company in Woking andwill provide competitors with instrumentation, telemetry, modelling andsimulation for sports such as canoeing, cycling, rowing and sailing.
"Wecan all learn a tremendous amount from McLaren Applied Technologies,"UK Sport's Head of Research & Innovation, Scott Drawer, told Inside The Games."Their experience and knowledge of advanced instrumentation, telemetryand simulators is second to none and we're really excited about thefuture potential of this partnership.
"What's most exciting isthat we're not only improving our chances of medal success now butsimultaneously establishing a state-of-the-art technical coachingsystem for many future generations of young athletes and that's got tobe good news for British sport."
With three years remaining until the games begin in the Britishcapital, McLaren is proud to be in association with the scheme."McLaren has been pioneering the use of electronic telemetry in FormulaOne since the 1980s and we have also developed the technology across awide array of practical applications away from the race track," said DrCaroline Hargrove, Project Manager for McLaren Applied Technologies.
"Obviously,using telemetry to improve sporting performance is a natural fit forMcLaren, but, as a British company, it's absolutely fantastic to beable to use our skills and expertise to help a future generation ofathletes to achieve their very best."
