Salman's safety net for Katrina
Salman Khan has provided a safety net to her latest girlfriend Katrina Kaif. This was witnessed recently at a Mumbai hotel, the venue of a party on the occasion of Salman's movie ' Dil Ne Jise Apna Kaha'. No body could meet Kaif though she remained an object of attraction for all there. There was a time soon after 'Boom' when no director or producer was ready to sign on her. Now, Salman is backing her. So every producer and director is ready to assign her his film. However, no body dare meet her because of the safety net provided around her by Salman.

Shooting is no fun
Juhi Chawla is not only back but she has turned proactive after her long sojourn. She was until recently shooting in Goa, but rushed back to Mumbai for her family's sake. The family called her to celebrate the famous Ganapati Pooja. But her family members regretted that she had to leave Goa for them where she had been having a nice time with her costars of 'My Brother Nikhil'. Juhi was amused and told them that she had a very tough task while shooting in Goa and had not even once been to the sea beaches so dear to her heart. Shooting seems to be a fun for outsiders but a hard job for the stars and the crew.

GOVINDS BLASTS CRITICS FOR LINKING HIM WITH RANI
Actor-cum-politician Govinda nee Chi Chi is shocked over the rumors of his affair with Bengal beauty Rani Mukherjee. He says he is aware that some people have been trying to break him by such misleading reports in the past too. He wonders why don't they show some pity or consideration for the girl at least. " I urge them not to spoil the girl's name." He has been feeling amused with his link-ups in the past with several girls.
Govinda adds that he is very happy with his wife and denies any such news about his link-up with anyone, including Rani Mukherjee, who has been her costars in several movies. He has blamed his opponents for creating confusion and spreading canards about him. He says, as it is election time in his state of Maharashtra so he is prepared to face such a nuisance. "Earlier, these elements tried to demolish my bungalow at Madh Island though they realized later that it is legal in every respect. Now, they are attempting to spoil my home. Soon they may try to break me as well." However, he is more amused than upset with such reports.

SRK is on top in UK
There is good news for Bollywood. Its Hindi films are grossing nearly as much as the British films at the box-office. About 29 British films grossed 8.2 million pounds while 54 Indian films grossed 8.1 million pounds during 2003. Moreover, Shah Rukh Khan has been the undisputed Indian superstar in the UK as his films grossed the most there. This has been revealed by a report made public at the Temptations 2004. Incidentally, a number of Indian stars like Shah Rukh Khan, Preity Zinta, Rani Mukerji, Saif Ali Khan, Arjun Rampal and Priyanka Chopra were present there.

Abhishek-Soha's hot scenes in 'Antarmahal'
Rituparno Ghosh is directing 'Antarmahal' with reportedly hottest scenes. These shots are between Abhishek Bachchan and Soha Ali Khan. Jackie Shroff plays an old zamindar who fails to satisfy the sex hunger of his wife Soha Ali Khan. So she relies on a Bihari servant played by Abhishek in the movie. The sexy scenes between the young woman and her servant Abhishek are the hottest ones. Besides, they develop intimate relations between them.

SAIF PROVES CREDENTIALS AGAIN
Move away, oldies, generation Z enters the scene. Yes, it is the generation for which even an Aditya Chopra is a thing of the past. The time is moving on jet speed and though both Yash Chopra and Aditya, the father-son duo, have kept rhythm with the pace, they have paved way for the next generation of film directors. Please, welcome grandson of famous writer Inder Raj Anand and nephew of director Tinu Anand, the one and only Siddharth Raj Anand.
The bubbly young hunk is here to make a film that gels with those who are working hard to live life on their own set of norms. This lot does not hesitate to sweat out but they hate to be governed by the old set of dictions and preaching. They don't do anything harmful to anyone; nor do they indulge in mean politics, as their motto of life seems to be live and let live. Circa 2005, the half of the first decade of 21st century, is about to be part of the history, and Hindi cinema that once created hue and cry over a torn shirt of Nimmi in 'Mera Naam Joker' or a natural bath by Simmi Garewal in a two-piece in the same film, has moved to the time of live-in relationship.
Siddharth Anand's 'Salaam Namaste' talks about the new face of man and woman friendship in today's life. This may look like the fall of the China wall for histrionics, but it is a fresh lease of life for decaying cinema of Bollywood. Yash Chopra and Aditya Chopra need applause for their guts to move on with the time and Siddharth Anand a pat on his back for being so daring in his first attempt on celluloid.
'Salaam Namaste' is the first film of Preity Zinta after the much talked about alleged tape controversy of Salman Khan and Aishwarya Rai. Saif Ali Khan also proves that the coveted National Award given to him this year is not a sign of gratitude from the ruling party to lure the Pataudi family into politics (His mother Sharmila Tagore is the chief of Censor Board). Saif Ali Khan plays Nikhil Arora in 'Salaam Namaste'. He is a guy from Ludhiana in Punjab and is a typical Indian dude who doesn't see the first rays of the sun as his night starts only after the parties are over.
He will also not like to make a career in a field that he feels is not fit for him. So, he makes peace with life by working in a dhaba kind of a restaurant in Melbourne and soon becomes chef on the block. Back in Ludhiana, his family is happy with sense of security of its future because their son is burning midnight candles for a bright future. Not very different is the story of cute girl Amber who has come to Melbourne to study medicine and gets a part-time job of a Radio Jockey.
The tussle between the two begins when Nick doesn't turn up for a show that Amber hosts. To teach Nick a lesson, she follows Nick and eventually both end up sharing a common roof. The initial hiccups disappear and they fall in a relationship, but then Amber reveals the twist of the story of being pregnant (Preity did the role of an unwed mother in 'Kya Kehna' too, and in that film Saif was the culprit). The roller coaster relationship does a roller coaster post this revelation and one more special appearance by junior Bachchan tries to settle the dust.
Produced by Aditya Chopra for Yashraj Films, 'Salaam Namaste' is a modern look at progressive relationships in the fast changing society. The story may find some resemblance in Saif's last film 'Hum Tum', but that is expected, as director Siddharth Anand was then involved in writing the script of 'Hum Tum'. Siddharth writes one more unique story for his own debut film. Though there have been films on relationships before marriage on celluloid, but Siddharth's attempt is his own.
The very approach that creates the first unison between Nick and Amber is not only very well penned but is also executed very brilliantly. The restaurant scene where Nick shows his desi guts is another example of exuberant presentation of a mature story. Siddharth has taken utmost care in arranging the right crew for the film. Surely, Goel has given the right look to Preity with the innovative costumes. Abbas Tyrewala makes his mark in Yashraj Films with his dialogues.
Full marks go to Sunil Patel for capturing the right mood through lenses and utilizing the breathtaking locales of Australia. Post- interval editor Ritesh Soni may have been a bit lazy in chopping off the scenes but overall his work is commendable. Vishal Shekhar adds another feather in their cap post 'Dus' for composing vibrant music with melodious tunes. The title track of the movies has already become the song of the nation.
'Salaam Namaste' also proves versatility of Saif Ali Khan. He portrays a complex character with ease and in Preity Zinta he gets a nice companion too. The pair is marvelous and their joint magic works in favor of the film. Among others, Arshad Warsi scores a perfect ten for his brilliant timings, Similarly, Javed Jaffery is not far behind though he has returned to big screen after a long gap. On the whole, 'Salaam Namaste' is a winner at box office and another trump card for Yashraj Films that has been on a hit spree post 'Veer Zaara' and 'Dhoom'. A perfect watch for a perfect weekend!

Celina, Dino married?
Has Celina Jaitley married with model-turned actor Dino Morea? Yes, of course. Why did the media miss the scoop? Why did both of them keep it secret? Who are they afraid of? No, the media has revealed the truth. They have been married but in a movie only. Celina and Dino have been acting together in Anant Mahadevan's 'Aksar', and Dino has played husband of Celina. So, the fans of both the actors can have a sigh of relief. Besides, when they enter into wedlock in real life, if any, we shall certainly let you know about it in advance. Wait for it.

Esha Deol's craze for Sallu
Esha Deol is crazy about Salman Khan. She is seen in 'No Entry' as the wife of Salman Khan, and delivers a lot of sharp dialogues. But that's a part of her role. She admires Sallu for the latter's modesty and mannerism. In fact, she sees her father Dharmendra in Sallu's mannerism and his muscular body. When asked by Salman why she was gazing at him after their shooting, she told him, " You remind me of my loving papa." Esha adds that Salman is himself an admirer of my papa. " I accepted this movie because of Salman Khan starring in it even though my role is too brief in the movie."

Hema Malini to direct Rekha, Esha
Hema Malini is on a high. Just back from Lucknow after meeting former US President Bill Clinton, she has her hands full, including Ravi Chopra's Babul, for which she is shooting with Amitabh Bachchan, Rani Mukerji and Salman Khan.
"It's the Baghban team again. Though I don't have that much to do I didn't want to break the successful team," Hema says. "But the news reports that I'm doing a Kannada version of Baghban are baseless. Yes, I was approached. (But) where am I going to do regional films when I'm hardly doing any in Hindi?"
Hema, who directed Shah Rukh Khan in his first film (Dil Ashna Hai), is all set to return to direction with a film that will star Esha and Rekha.
"It's a film based on a cultural conflict with classical music in the background," Hema says. "It's a very different story about the relationship that grows between two women from different generations."
She has already spoken to Rekha. "She is very excited particularly because she has lots of classical singing to enact in the film. Rekha and I go back a long way. She is a good friend. It'll be challenging to direct her. I feel this film will give her a role that does justice to her presence."
Why Rekha? Why not herself? "Two reasons," says the lady, with characteristic clarity. "I can't direct and act at the same time. Second, audiences will feel cheated since it isn't a mother-daugher film. I want Abhishek Bachchan to play the lead opposite Esha. It's the role of a modern boy with a classical temperament. I can't think of anyone but Abhishek who'll suit the role."
Hema and Esha will play mother and daughter in a film soon. Details are still to be worked out. "Right now I'm quite charged about directing again, specially since the film will star my daughter. It's been a long time since I directed a film."
The Rekha-Esha starrer, written by Vandana Mukhopadhyay, goes on the floors in the next four months. So does Ram Gopal Varma's Sholay remake. Who does Hema think should play Basanti, her role in Ramesh Sippy's blockbuster?
"None but Esha," comes the prompt reply. "I can't think of anyone else."

Flu fails to depress Big B
Amitabh Bachchan has continued his shooting recently in Mumbai for Karan Johar's 'Kabhi Alvida Na Kahna ' even though he has been suffering from flu. Amitabh took some anti-biotic and reached the studio. During the chat with the media, Big B said that flue takes a few days before being cured, so one need not stop working. Besides, the work involving many persons should not stop because of the illness of one person. When asked if he would be able to deliver dialogues properly because of his bad throat, Amitabh said, " My voice can be rectified later by dubbing." And, this is not for the first time that Big B is shooting during illness. He has been doing it in the past too. According to sources close to him, Amitabh had continued his shoot of Sanjay Gupta's 'Kaante' despite acute toothache. Similarly, he had sung his famous song " Khaake Paan Banareswala." When he wasn't feeling well and was prescribed painkillers.

DIA MIRZA LOVES DIAMONDS, BUT WEARS RINGS, BRACELETS
Dia Mirza loves bracelet, rings and watches as she can wear them even during shooting. If the articles are fixed with diamonds, then it's great! She was in New Delhi to open a diamonds outlet. In fact, the outlet presented her an 18-carat diamond set. She says, " I buy diamond jewelry from this outlet only." We met and chatted with her.
Why do you like bracelets and rings only in jewelry?
These articles can be worn even during the shooting of a film. Other articles of jewelry are heavy.
What's your present status in the industry?
I am happy since the beginning of this year.
What types of movie offers attract you the most?
I like those movie offers that provide me good and vital roles.
Are you happy with your good girl image in the industry?
No, I don't like tags of any type. Truly speaking, I am bored of such tags. I hate to be stereotyped.
What are your forthcoming movies?
At present, I have my hands full. My forthcoming movies are 'Fight Club', 'Kabhi Bhi Kahin Bhi', 'Dil Sachcha Chehra Jhoota' and 'Prateeksha'.

ANIL YET TO FULFIL HIS DREAM
Anil Kapoor has come back in films as lead character in his next 'Musafir' after some time. When he was quite young he had dreamt of becoming a film star and that too like Raj Kapoor. He never thought of becoming an engineer or a doctor as was usual those days for boys and girls of his age. Though he has become a star, he is yet to reach the dream role of late Raj Kapoor, he confesses. He always liked to play unconventional characters and has therefore enjoyed doing the roles of a music composer and a grandfather for several years. He traces his past when he played young Shashi Kapoor in 'Tu Paayal Main Geet'.
Soon after he began getting offers like 'Laila' and 'Woh Saat Din'. Later, he never saw back and turned a very popular hero in uncounted number of movies. When asked about 'Musafir', Anil says his role is versatile. From an orphanage he moves to a children's home and then enters the jail. From there he tries to become a good boy but alas the fate doesn't help him. Even his girlfriend betrays him! The orphan turns a drug peddler following the death of his partners. Well, his role in 'Musafir' doesn't take him near to that of late Raj Kapoor. Hopefully, he may be able to get a Raj Kapoor type of role in his next before it's too late for him.

THE SHAH RUKH MAGIC
The Shah Rukh magic has also mesmerized the overseas audience. His films fetch a better business than other films. Last year the super hit 'Chalte Chalte' produced under the banner of his home production did a record business. This year also Shah Rukh starrer 'Main Hoon Naa' stood number one in business among Bollywood films abroad. SRK's films also have a good demand in the VCD and DVD market. The VCDs of his film 'Devdas' is still getting a good number of buyers. The maximum number of VCD releasing company Erose's director Sunil Lulla accepts that Shah Rukh's films has yielded a good amount of profit for all the producers in last three years.
The film distributor Harish Chandra Sethi says that 'Chalte Chalte' did the business of 50 to 60 million Indian rupees in the US and the UK. Similarly, 'Kal Ho Na Ho' collected Rs 100 million and 'Main Hoon Na' fetched Rs 95 million. A Bollywood gossip is that Shah Rukh has a business deal with 'Erose'. But Sunil denies it saying that he has a friendly relationship with him only. The DVDs and VCDs of blockbuster 'Main Hoon Naa' will be released soon. It seems that the DVDs of 'Main Hoon Naa' will do a record sale like the DVDs of his 'Devdas'. Let us see how long this Shah Rukh mania remains in the market!

Why Shah Rukh endorses beauty soap
Why should women be the only ones to pose for a beauty soap?
Well, the obvious answer would be because it's a feminine product, something only women use.
But Shah Rukh Khan disagrees, plunging his bare body sensationally into a bathtub filled with rose petals. Over the decades, Lux soap advertisements have featured many a star, but now, on the 75th anniversary, a superstar is called for. 'So I said, 'Main hoon na,'" the star says, tongue firmly in cheek.
The advertisement was unveiled on September 9 at a media function organised by Lux to commemorate its 75th anniversary and announce their latest range.
The new Lux collection is represented by four Lux beauties handpicked from across the decades -- Hema Malini, Sridevi, Juhi Chawla, and Kareena Kapoor.
Looking gorgeous in saris, the ladies were present to wax eloquent about their relationship with the soap, from Juhi -- who has been the longest running brand ambassador (at 11 years) -- to Kareena, who is the third in her family to endorse Lux after mother Babita and elder sister Karisma.
King Khan was conspicuous by his absence, and the press wasn't thrilled. After waiting more than an hour and a half for the show to begin, the cameramen wanted a photo-op with the superstar, which was not to be. The Lux officials meekly confessed they never planned to have SRK present, a funny concept considering he is the highlight of the new television commercial.
Still, the four ladies who flank Khan's bathtub were all present, and looked beautiful -- fitting for Lux, a name derived from the word luxury.

Zadie Smith, Hunter S. Thompson, Shah Rukh Khan
Zadie Smith's "On Beauty," a tribute to "Howards End" set on a college campus, and Julian Barnes's "Arthur & George," a historical novel about the Sherlock Holmes creator Arthur Conan Doyle, are among the finalists for Britain's Man Booker Prize. Others on the shortlist for the award were John Banville's "The Sea," Sebastian Barry's "A Long Long Way," Kazuo Ishiguro's "Never Let Me Go" and Ali Smith's "The Accidental." The former Booker winners J.M. Coetzee, Salman Rushdie and Ian McEwan were among those whose novels didn't make the final list. The winner of the prize, open to writers from Britain, Ireland and the British Commonwealth, will be announced Oct. 10.
Rolling Stone, the magazine that was home for years to Hunter S. Thompson, is publishing a note written by the gonzo journalist days before he committed suicide in February. Douglas Brinkley, the presidential historian who is also Thompson's official biographer, writes that a Feb. 16 note may be Thompson's final written words. Written in black marker and titled "Football Season Is Over," it reads, in part: "No More Fun. No More Swimming. 67. That is 17 years past 50. 17 more than I needed or wanted. Boring. I am always bitchy. No Fun - for anybody. 67. You are getting Greedy. Act your old age. Relax - This won't hurt."
The Bollywood leading man Shah Rukh Khan is taking on a role traditionally reserved for India's most beautiful actresses - advertising beauty soap in a campaign that features pictures of him posing shirtless in a rose-filled bathtub. Khan, 39, is the first Indian actor to sign on as the global ambassador for Lux soap, marketed in the South Asian country, said Hindustan Lever Ltd., the Indian arm of multinational Unilever Limited, which makes the soap.
The pop stars Jacky Cheung, Andy Hui and CoCo Lee and the Broadway singers Lea Salonga and Paige O'Hara will be part of Hong Kong Disneyland's opening festivities, under way this weekend before Monday's opening. Other performers scheduled to appear are the Chinese actresses Gong Li and Zhang Ziyi and the Hong Kong performer Joey Yung.

THE MAST BOY IN DELHI
The Mast boy Aftab Shivdasani with a new face of Bollywood Shriya Saran was in New Delhi for the promotion of his forthcoming film 'Shukriya'. The Chocolate hero is going to appear in a serious role in this movie. Life and death are two inseparable parts of life. Nobody knows when death is going to knock your door but what happens when one is aware of his time of death? This is the theme of the new film 'Shukriya' in which Aftab with the new heroine Shriya Saran appears in an emotional role. In Aftab's words, "It is an emotional film. There is not much melodrama. Rather the emotion has been shown in a simple way. The emotions, relationships and feelings have been put in a subtle way in this movie." Answering a question about his different kind of roles Aftab says, "If this film will do a good business then I will be appreciated as a serious actor. Otherwise the audience will not accept me in emotional roles in future."
When asked about his affair with Shamita Shetty, Aftab retorted, "I would not like to talk about my personal life. How does it matter to others? Does any body bother about my love life? I know that some of them would earn more out of my live! Regarding his other plan, he said that he would like to enter into health club and restaurant business. And make a chain of clubs and hotels. However, it did not mean that he would quit films or run health clubs and restaurants only. In fact, he would like to invest his hard earned money in the property as a sort of investment. He agreed that the health clubs and restaurants might help him during his bad days.
Introducing the film, heroine Shriya Saran says, " This film is a celebration of life. This talks about how important every moment and every person in life is. This film also talks about how every moment becomes important in your life while you know that you are going to meet death." About the music of the film Aftab says, "The music is meant for the masses. It goes with the script and there is a combination of different kind of songs." In this film the famous actress of 1980s Rati Agnihotri makes comeback with her counterpart Anupam Kher. The veteran duo appears in a major role. A new face Indranil Gupta is also going to appear on the silver screen through this film.
The chocolate boy is happy that he would be having three solo releases this year. They are Anupam Sinha's 'Shukriya', Ekta Kapoor's 'Koi Aap Sa' and 'Jane Hoga Kya'. Aftaab hopes to become a solo hero. But he would like the audience to accept him as such and he is prepared to do his best as an actor to reach the goal. The director Anupam Sinha is making his debut under the banner of Inspired Movies with the producers Vibha-Ragini. This film is going to hit the multiplexes on 4th of October this year. Aftab is looking forward toward one of his forthcoming releases to prove a hit, which he needs very badly at this juncture of his career.

AMITABH BACHCHAN TO LEAD FAMILY PLANNING
Amitabh Bachchan has taken up another responsibility of helping the family planning campaign in India. Earlier, he has been very closely connected with the anti-polio campaign , especially on the electronic media. Amitabh is concerned with the most burning problem of ever growing population in his country. Recently, he gifted a huge sum of Rs 1.1 million to an NGO involved in the stupendous task of checking the growth of population. The matter has drawn the attention of the vigilant sections of society in view of the recently released report of the census.
The Big B announced to do anything possible to fight this menace. He said this from the platform of Giants International where he was the chief guest. Giants International has been celebrating its 32nd anniversary. This is the first occasion when a super star of Bollywood has aligned himself completely with a national cause. This would certainly induce other stars to participate in this campaign. On the same occasion, Amitabh honored several artistes, social workers, entrepreneurs and politicians who served the nation through their professions. Besides others, Paresh Rawal and Shilpa Shetty were bestowed with honor and awards.
