AC Milan vs Barcelona Player Ratings
AC Milan defended doggedly preventing Barcelona from playing their game leading to a stalemate at the San Siro on Wednesday night.
It wasn't all about defending, however, as Milan did have a couple of good chances to alter the scoreline, most notably with Robinho early on as the ball fell to him just outside the six yard box but his shot went high and over the bar.
Barcelona had a strong claim for a penalty around then as well as Alexis Sanchez had escaped the attentions of his marker and had knocked the ball past Christian Abbiati but the goalkeeper's outstretched arms brought down the Chilean international. Abbiati had to save a number of shots by Lionel Messi but none were hit with power or precision.
But Barcelona were dominant otherwise and were able to tease open the Milan defence on many occasions but failed to carve out clear-cut opportunties. The Milanese defenders gave the Spanish side acres of space in midfield but quickly closed down whenever they came close to the box. Zlatan Ibrahimovic played his part as well as he confidently kept the ball up on his own allowing his team-mates to take their time to join him in attack and he made some clever passes and headers playing the role of a target man to good effect.
Pep Guardiola's side eventually had to head back home knowing that Milan just need to score a goal in the return leg in order to proceed to the semi-final with an away draw.
AC Milan
Christian Abbiati - 7
The Italian keeper was confident at making saves from the few shots that were made but his handling could have been better as he let the ball roll dangerously close to the goal-line. Also, his attempt to get the ball off Sanchez's feet in the first half would have definitely merited a penalty with a more stricter referee.
Philippe Mexes - 7.5
Mexes was solid with his challenges and confident with his positioning.
Alessandro Nesta (off 74') - 7.5
The old-timer showed that he was up to the challenge of containing Messi even if he had to do it in a dirty manner with several hasty challenges.
Daniele Bonera - 8
Bonera effectively killed off Andres Iniesta's presence in the game with his close marking and made several crucial interceptions and blocks, including when Abbiati let the ball trail away from him and Cristian Tello appeared ready to smash the ball into an empty net.
Luca Antonini - 7
The defender was all over the pitch and after Nesta's substitution, he operated more closely helping create a compact defence that shielded Abbiati's goal from any danger.
Clarence Seedorf - 8
The Dutchman was in superb form tonight as he made several incisive passes in Ibrahimovic's direction and constantly won the ball off the Barcelona players.
Antonio Nocerino - 7
He made a couple of forays forward but his crosses were never too good but he did a good job defensively helping track down the Barcelona players and preventing them from playing their game.
Massimo Ambrosini - 7.5
The 34-year-old gave a good account of himself as he made several key challenges and closely tracked Xavi and Seydou Keita. He was a bit rash with his challenges though.
Kevin-Prince Boateng (off 67') - 7
The attacking midfielder was dangerous when given the ball but he made several long-range shots that were poor and way off target. He could have really stunned Barcelona had he been more clinical.
Zlatan Ibrahimovic - 8
Ibrahimovic rarely got time with the ball but whenever he did, he made sure that he was useful for his side. He knocked it down for other players, flicked it behind for the wingers to latch onto and crossed whenever he spotted any players free and willing to shoot at goal. He was also a constant pain to the Barcelona defence as his tall and lanky frame allowed him to get the ball and control it while the other attackers rushed forward to join him.
Robinho (off 52') - 6.5
Robinho shouldn't have wasted the glorious chance presented to him when Ibrahimovic headed the ball in his direction in the first half. He had all the time in the world to bury it at goal but his shot wasn't even on target.
Subs:
Stephan El Shaarawy (on 52') - 6.5
The teenager was brought on after Robinho's injury and he made a couple of good runs but his crosses were always poor.
Urby Emanuelson (on 67') - 6
Within moments of his introduction, he had a superb opportunity when Ibrahimovic spotted his run down the right and he got the ball with only the goalkeeper to beat. But the Dutchman's first touch was very poor and he ended up dragging the ball away from goal instead and by the time he managed to control it, the Barcelona defenders had tracked back already.
Djamel Mesbah (on 74') - 6.5
Brought on as a replacement for the tiring Nesta, he helped close down attacks from the right. |

milan memang spt yg aku expected akan main utk draw atau away goal...
1st penalti aku tak concern..
tapi 2nd penalty tu pada aku ref bukan lagi taraf mangkuk ayun.. tapi mangkuk jamban... puyol menggelupor terlebih... kalau itu kira penalty, maka nya setiap game serie A, la liga atau epl malah liga Malaysia pon akan ada penalti setiap kali corner kick... ironicnya defender seperti Puyol pon guilty week in week out pegang opponent masa set piece... piiraahhhh.....sucker
walaubagaimanapon kredit kepada yg deserved.. spt barca yg kontrol posession dan akan win the ball setiap kali milan sentuh bola, memang wajar diberi pujian... but, having said that, kredit patut juga diberi kepada defensive team milan yg balance posession barca dgn agressive defending... pada aku backline milan da superb.. dgn abe no 13 yg main second half dgn injury tapi still boleh contain assault dari striker barca dgn coolnya... cuma midfield tak jalan.. so bila tengah tak jalan, defender penat buat kerja...
dan last komen aku ditujukan kepada koc sengal milan nih.. ko bodo ke apa turunkan pato yg tgh carry injury sedangkan ada maxi lopez yg sihat walafiat...
bagus jugak milan kena tendang keluar... biar botak galiani tu sedar diri yg nak menang CL kena invest player bagus2.. bukan beli player pencen dgn free transfer...
