Player Ratings: Real Madrid 1-2 Barcelona
Goal.com rates the players from the Copa del Rey quarter-final first leg match at the Santiago Bernabeu on Wednesday night, when the Catalans came from behind to claim victory

Barcelona
José Pinto Colorado   5.0

Really should have saved Ronaldo's opener which went through his legs. Came out later in the half to claim one high ball as Benzema waited to pounce. Didn't look entirely comfortable after that, but now has three wins on the trot at the Bernabeu. Not bad.

Daniel Alves   5.0
Attacked aggressively down the right but was never really able to get to the byeline and was stopped in his tracks for the most part. Didn't really link up too much with Messi and endured one of his more frustrating nights.

Gerard Piqué   5.5
Looked comfortable bringing the ball out of defence. Questionable positioning on the Madrid goal, though, and he was also booked for clattering into Pepe in the first half. Defended well for the most part, however.

Carles Puyol   7.5
Brilliant diving header to level the scores at 1-1, reminiscent of his goal for Spain in the World Cup semi-final against Germany. Defensively he was his usual self and led the line superbly, always looking assured and as ever, he gave 100 per cent as he threw himself into challenges. Likes playing here.

éric Abidal    7.0
Something of a subdued showing from Abidal who was neither good nor bad, just competent. But then he popped up in the area to slot home only his second Barca goal - a winner in the Bernabeu against Real Madrid. Another epic story for the Frenchman.

Andrés Iniesta Luján     Top of the Match     6.5
Control let him down in the area and he was well off target when he should have done better after 33 minutes. One good run before half-time but Pepe got back to win the ball. Saw an angled drive pushed wide by Casillas just after Cristiano's opener, the made a great run to set up Messi in second half, but poor control from the Argentine in the area meant it came to nothing.

Sergio Busquets Burgos   5.0
Picked himself off the floor after some exaggerated play-acting to glance a header over the bar in the second half. But he really should have at least hit the target with that one. Passing was fine, but some of the negative things tarnished his display, as with Pepe but to a lesser extent.

Xavi   7.5
Outstanding again as he slowed the came down, controlling the flow of passing from deep and setting everything in motion. No goals or assists, but he doesn't need them as he does so much else and remains the pulse of this side. The rest starts from there.

Cesc Fàbregas   5.5
Largely anonymous in the first half. Sent one dangerous ball into the box after 35 minutes but flag was already up. Lovely chipped pass set up Iniesta in the second half, but the midfielder's effort hit the woodwork. Not at his best and didn't score this time either.

Lionel Messi   7.0
It was a night of moments from Messi: One good jinking run in the first few minutes led to him almost setting up Iniesta in the area, before a brilliant angled drive was pushed around the post by Casillas. Saved the best until the end though as he set up Abidal with a stunning chipped pass for the winner. Even below his best, he remains decisive.

Alexis Sánchez   7.0
Started quietly but almost equalised for Barca when he headed onto the bar. Full of running down the right as he hustled and harried Madrid's markers. Unlucky to be adjudged offside as he raced clear late in first half and made a stunning late clearance with an impressive dribble outside his box. Looking the part.

• Substitutions
Adriano   5.0

Came on for the last eight minutes and looked competent enough as Barca defended their lead.

Thiago Alcántara  N/A
Came on right at the end and had no time to make an impact.

Joan Isaac Cuenca Lopez   N/A
Was introduced in the dying seconds by Pep Guardiola.

Cabaran Barcelona ‘kian hanyut’

2012/01/30

– AP

Valencia 1-1 Barcelona: Messi misses second-half penalty as absorbing Copa del Rey tie remains well-poised ahead of second leg.

Diego Alves' penalty save from the Argentine denies Catalans from taking a lead back to Camp Nou but Pep Guardiola will still be confident of overcoming Los Che in the return leg.

Carles Puyol secured a 1-1 draw for Barcelona in their Copa del Rey semi-final first leg against Valencia, with the away goal putting the Catalan side in pole position to reach a third final in four years, although victory could have been theirs had Lionel Messi not missed a penalty in the second half.

The hosts deservedly led through Jonas' emphatic finish midway through the first period, only for Puyol to level the match before the break with his downward header.

A subdued opening found life when Messi embarked on a typically dangerous run, drawing a free kick, but the Argentine's effort lacked sufficient curl as it went a yard off target.

With Los Che beginning to dominate proceedings, the Mestalla were left infuriated when Jose Pinto prevented Roberto Soldado from putting Unai Emery's side ahead when he clearly handled outside the area. The officials were disinterested in Valencia's claim as play continued. much to the amazement of the Spain striker.

Valencia continued their high intensity and were soon rewarded when they dispossessed Barcelona deep in their territory. They worked the ball out to Jeremy Mathieu whose cutback was expertly converted by Jonas for the lead.

Suddenly, Barca found a rhythm. Isaac Cuenca's sublime foot work was followed by an intricate ball into the feet of Alexis. The Chilean managed to dig out a shot only to be denied by a brilliant save from the onrushing Diego Alves.

From the resulting corner, the Blaugrana opted for a customary cross which brought dividends when an unmarked Puyol brought the scores level with a committed header.

Messi began the second half brightly, and had a wonderful chance to fire Barcelona ahead after Thiago had been felled in the penalty area by Miguel's flailing leg. The Argentine's fragmented run-up did nothing to deter Diego Alves, who pushed his poor spot kick away to safety after springing low to his left.

Barcelona enggan mengalah

LIONEL Messi (tengah) dikawal ketat pemain Real Sociedad tetapi masih mampu menyumbang satu gol buat Barcelona semalam.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gol tunggal Sociedad pula diperoleh menerusi jaringan Carlos Vela dua minit kemudian.

Jurulatih Sociedad, Philippe Montanier memuji aksi yag dipamerkan Messi.

- Reuters

Barcelona 2-0 Valencia (3-1 Agg): Fabregas and Xavi fire Blaugrana into Copa del Rey final meeting with Athletic Bilbao

Pep Guardiola's side comfortably overcame Los Che and will look to the final in May as they look rectify last season's defeat against Real Madrid.

Barcelona will contest the 2012 Copa del Rey final, their third in four years, against Athletic Bilbao after overcoming Valencia 2-0 at Camp Nou, and 3-1 on aggregate.

With the cushion of Carles Puyol's away goal from the 1-1 draw at the Mestalla, the Catalans were in imperious form as Cesc Fabregas' first-half strike and a Xavi thunderbolt were enough to help Barca reach their 36th domestic cup final.

Barca struggled to settle in the early exchanges and Valencia were presented with a good chance to take the lead. Jeremy Mathieu's curling delivery found Sofiane Feghouli's darting run but the Frenchman's rasping drive was off target.

Despite their confident start, however, Los Che found themselves behind in the 16th minute when Lionel Messi's lofted pass caught Diego Alves in two minds. His indecisiveness allowed Fabregas to clip the bouncing ball past the keeper from an acute angle.

The Catalans should have doubled their lead when Messi intercepted Adil Rami's forward pass gave the Argentine a sight of goal, only for Diego Alves to parry his shot away. A stationary Valencia defence watched in desperation as Isaac Cuenca was first to react to the loose ball but the youngster skewed his effort wide.

But for Diego Alves, Valencia would have found themselves two goals down as their play continued to be littered with mistakes; the Brazilian stopper thwarted Fabregas twice with smart saves, as the visitors withstood heavy pressure.

Valencia started the second period strongly, though, and created a superb opening when Jordi Alba was played clean on goal. The Spaniard's touch took him away from the hounding Puyol and with his second he lashed the ball toward goal only to be denied by the legs of Jose Pinto.

Barcelona responded in kind. Messi demonstrated his supreme talent by evading four Valencia defenders with one sultry touch before bringing out a first-rate reactionary save from Diego Alves with a toe-poke that was heading for the corner.

The two players traded blows once more, but Messi was once denied by the Brazilian stopper leaving the striker with a look of disbelief on his face as his neat chip was deflected wide of the post.

At the other end, Puyol became Barcelona's saviour when he cleared ahead of the waiting Jordi Alba with an acrobatic clearance, while Pinto was forced to tip Jonas' thunderous drive over the bar soon after as Valencia began to attack relentlessly.

But their task progressed from improbable to impossible when Feghouli was shown his second yellow card leaving the visitors a man light and needing a goal in the remaining 13 minutes to keep alive their Copa del Rey hopes.

Soon after Aduriz had wasted a chance to level, Xavi destroyed any glimmer of hope with an emphatic finish following a swift Barca break. Diego Alves continued to deny Barcelona with a string of saves in the final moments, significantly a wonderful diving save from Messi's free-kick.

Pep Guardiola's side now have the chance to clinch their 26th Copa del Rey victory, and will meet Athletic Bilbao in May.

Osasuna 3-2 Barcelona: Pep Guardiola's experimental side lose in Pamplona as La Liga starts to slip away.

Despite a valiant effort at a comeback, the Blaugrana suffered their second league defeat in 47 matches and a blow to their title hopes after a first-half flurry from the hosts

A questionable first-team, a frozen pitch, and an inspired opposition contributed to Barcelona's 3-2 defeat at Osasuna at the Estadio Reyna de Navarra on Saturday evening as the Catalans now risk falling 10 points behind leaders Real Madrid by the end of the weekend.

A first-half brace by Dejan Lekic gave Osasuna a magical start. The second period saw a flurry of goals as Alexis Sanchez reduced the deficit, only for Raul Garcia to restore a two-goal cushion. Cristian Tello made it 3-2, but Barcelona could not complete the comeback.

The Catalan side began the match with a modified starting XI as Sergi Roberto, Pedro and Thiago Alcantara started in place of Xavi, Andres Iniesta and Cesc Fabregas.

The changes hurt the Liga champions early on as Osasuna got off to a dream start.  In the fourth minute, Raul Garcia received the ball on the edge of the 18-yard box and it flicked on to find a sprinting Lekic, who buried his strike past Victor Valdes to open scoring.

Pep Guardiola's men attempted to fight back but struggled to establish their quick, one-touch game on the frozen pitch.

The hosts did not sit back and settle for a solitary goal as they were soon two up. After being picked out by Raul Garcia on the right flank, Alvaro Cejudo looped in a cross which found a surging Lekic, who tapped past Valdes for his second of the night to send the home crowd into raptures.

The first half ended with the Blaugrana establishing dominance in possession but not being able to create any goal-mouth opportunities with it.

Guardiola made a few changes at the start of the second half but instead of bringing on Iniesta, Xavi, or Fabregas into the game, he introduced Isaac Cuenca and Tello as Carles Puyol and Pedro made way.

Although the changes may have bemused a few fans, they worked. Cuenca centred the his cross from the right and found an unmarked Alexis, who slid the ball past Fernandez to bring the Catalans back into the game.

But the goal did not faze Los Rojillos and instead, they marched towards their opposition's goal, once again to be rewarded. After a pass from Valdes was intercepted, Nino was picked out on the left. The experienced forward sent in a cross and Raul Garcia managed to beat Valdes to the ball at the near post, punishing the keeper for straying too far off his line.

The match continued to see-saw back and forth as the Blaugrana reduced the deficit once more. After being picked out on the right, Tello checked past his marker and blasted past Fernandez from close range into the top corner to make it 3-2.

Barcelona looked to have equalised when Alexis found the back of the net after Lionel Messi clipped in a cross, but the Chilean was adjudged to be offside by the linesman when the ball took a slight touch off Sergi Roberto. The away side continued to pressure their opponents until the final whistle, but they could not find an equaliser as they stumble to their second defeat of the season.

With the loss, Barcelona could find themselves 10 points adrift of top spot if Madrid beat Levante at home on Sunday. Osasuna's fantastic upset victory sees them temporarily move up to seventh place.

Champions League Player Ratings: Bayer Leverkusen 1-3 Barcelona.

Pep Guardiola's men secured a comfortable first-leg win in Germany on Tuesday night, with Alexis Sanchez and Lionel Messi both on target for the Catalans.

Barcelona
Víctor Valdés   6.0
Came racing off his line and needlessly conceded a throw-in when the ball was going out for a corner in the second half, but made one vital intervention when he pushed Castro's stinging shot onto the post and also saved Kiessling's second-half header.

Daniel Alves   6.0
Blasted a free-kick over the bar when he could have sent a decent ball into the box, but was a constant threat down the right flank and his measured ball set up Messi for the crucial third goal.

Carles Puyol  5.5
Typically brave and strong in defence, but there were a few mix-ups at the back, notably when Leverkusen scored and also as Castro hit the post. Looks to have lost some pace following his injury problems and also looked to miss partner Gerard Pique.

Adriano  6.0
Started in a forward role and was always positive. Sent a speculative curling effort way over the bar in the first half and set Cesc on his way to set up Alexis for the second goal. Limped off just after an hour.

éric Abidal   5.0
Got forward well down the left to support his team-mates and was positive with the ball, but shouldn't have allowed Corluka to set up the first goal as the Croatian reached the byeline and crossed for Kadlec to head home.

Cesc Fàbregas   5.5
A positive performance from Cesc, who set up Alexis' second goal with a lovely through ball. His decision making was less impressive, though, and he wasted a decent shooting opportunity late on.

Andrés Iniesta Luján   6.0
Coming back from injury, the midfielder looked good for an hour, albeit slightly below his usual best. Kept the possession ticking over and was positive in the absence of the injured Xavi. Replaced with half an hour left.

Javier Mascherano   5.0
Made one first-half foray into the Leverkusen half but it came to nothing. Careless in possession on occasions when he should have kept it simple, and was caught out of position too often at the back.

Sergio Busquets Burgos   6.0
Had Guardiola worried when he was hurled onto the ground by Castro, but got up and was fine. Another coming back from injury, he looked his usual self with some neat passing and did a good job defensively.

Alexis Sánchez   Top of the Match    8.0

Caught offside several times in the first half an hour but slid Barca into the lead after latching onto Messi's lobbed pass and made it two as he raced onto a great Cesc ball. Was a constant threat and had chances to score more. Looking better all the time.

Lionel Messi  7.0
Came close in the first half when he poked an angled shot at Leno, then set up Alexis with a lovely lobbed pass for the opening goal. Almost added one of his own late on with a brilliant run and chip which hit the post, but finally got his goal late on when he poked home Alves' cross.

• Substitutions
Thiago Alcántara   6.0
Came on for the last half an hour as Iniesta was given a break on his return. Was always positive and almost reached a ball in the area, only to be denied by the quick-thinking Leno.

Pedro   4.5
Poor control late on when he raced into the box and looked to have a good scoring opportunity, he is not at his best at the moment and looks to be lacking confidence.

Joan Isaac Cuenca Lopez  5.0
Came on for the last five minutes to give Alexis his ovation.

Barcelona 5-1 Valencia: Sensational quartet from Messi demolishes visitors on 200th league appearance for Catalan giants.
Pep Guardiola's side come from behind to claim three points at Camp Nou after humbling Unai Emery's men in a convincing performance
.

Barcelona extended the gap over Valencia to 11 points in La Liga with an impressive 5-1 victory over Unai Emery's side at Camp Nou, thanks to a four-goal tally from Lionel Messi and a strike from Xavi.
Save for a shaky opening 10 minutes, the hosts were in charge for the majority of the match, and perhaps should have won by a bigger margin but found themselves facing an in-form Diego Alves, who made a number of world-class stops throughout the game.

Valencia got off to a flyer and went ahead in the ninth minute when Pablo Piatti took advantage of some indecision in the Barca defensive ranks to give the visitors the lead.

Barcelona 3-1 Sporting Gijon: Catalans leave it late to overcome stubbon visitors after Pique's red card.

The Blaugrana secured a crucial win at Camp Nou to temporarily close the gap on Real Madrid atop the Liga table while Javier Clemente's side remain in a relegation battle
.

Seydou Keita scored a sensational goal 12 minutes from time to help Barcelona overcome the challenge of Sporting Gijon at Camp Nou after Gerard Pique had been sent off in the early moments of the second half.

Andres Iniesta gave Barca the lead in the dying minutes of the first half before the dramatic spell after the break that saw Pique controversially dismissed. David Barral then turned home the equaliser with a deft touch at the near post, but Pep Guardiola's side never shied away from the challenge in front of them as strikes from Keita and Xavi ensured a 12th home win of the season.

Barcelona struggled for much of the first half as they were unable to penetrate a resolute Sporting defence, but they looked promising in the early exchanges as they dominated both territory and possession.

The Blaugrana continued to probe and came close when Adriano embarked on a burst forward, beating four Sporting defenders in the process. The Brazilian worked a sight of goal but he directed his shot wide of the far post as they came closer to taking the lead.

Sporting's solid defensive work was finally undone three minutes prior to the break. Adriano and Keita combined brilliantly, allowing the former to roll the ball across the six-yard box and into the path of Iniesta who had the simplest of tasks to notch his first La Liga goal of the season.

Cesc Fabregas came close to doubling Barca's lead minutes later when he burst onto Dani Alves' through ball. He flicked a shot towards goal but Juan Pablo was there to deny the former Arsenal man with a reactionary stop ensuring his side remained in touch with the Blaugrana at the break.

In a dramatic start to the second half Pique was shown a red card after the referee adjudged the Catalan defender to have denied Miguel de las Cuevas a clear, goalscoring opportunity.

Clemente responded by introducing topscorer Barral and his gamble was immediately repaid. After directing the resulting free-kick against the wall with his first touch, Barral's second found the back of the net when he turned home Formose Mendy's low cross.

Despite the numerical advantage bestowed upon them, Los Rojiblancos returned to their defensive duties as Barcelona looked to re-establish their lead. Iniesta replicated Lionel Messi with a superb run from deep as he turned Sporting's Galvez with a wonderful touch. He then burst forward, bearing down on the opposition defence only for his pass to be too heavy for Alexis Sanchez.

The winner came in phenomenal fashion when Keita curled home a lofted drive from 20 yards with a magnificent finish. Alexis linked the play up brilliantly before the Mali international showed his class with an unstoppable effort.

Xavi then secured all three points for the home side when he latched onto Iniesta's chipped pass and clipped the ball neatly over Juan Pablo.

Barcelona, now provisionally seven points behind Real Madrid at the top of La Liga, return to Champions League duty on Wednesday as they look to secure a spot in the next round at the expense of German side Leverkusen, with Pep Guardiola's side taking a 3-1 lead into the second leg at Camp Nou.

Madrid host Espanyol at the Santiago Bernabeu in La Liga on Sunday.
