Siti: 'I want to be a mother'
Malaysia’s reigning diva, Siti Nurhaliza today admitted that becoming a mother is the greatest dream she has yet to fulfill.
The singer and entrepreneur, who today engaged readers in a frank and open Yahoo! Malaysia 'Question Time' live chat session, said that although she still had many dreams and aspirations, the one she was looking forward to the most was motherhood.
Siti, who chatted with Yahoo! users for about one-and-a-half hours, was peppered with a variety of questions from her fans, ranging from her personal life to her opinion on issues of the day and her future plans.
One of the most amusing questions was from reader Hazim Noslan, who asked what she would advocate for when – and not 'if' – she became Malaysia’s first woman prime minister.
The question prompted a burst of laughter from the down-to-earth singer who replied, “How I wish!”
She then said she would emphasise peace, progress and measures to prevent domestic strife.
She was also asked, reader Tan Bee Bee, to share her thoughts on the controversial Obedient Wives Club and she answered that religious teachings, if not deviant, should be followed, but added that all things need to be studied in greater detail.
One fan, Nor Amni Sarah Muhammad Zin, even extended a hopeful invitation for Siti to join her and her friends on a camping trip to Kelantan.
Siti thanked Nor Amni but said that time was an issue though she loved camping.
'Avoid being kicked'
There were many questions on her personal and family life, and a fan called 'Dalaa' asked how the singer dealt with the wild gossip and speculation on her family life.
Siti replied that gossip was the name of the game in the entertainment world, adding that she always strived to remain patient and ride out whatever challenges she came across.
The diva also showed her playful side, when an ardent fan - Darel Nicol Luna Anak Agam - asked her if she had kicked the habit of shaking her legs while trying to go to sleep.
The singer answered that she has stopped doing it in order to avoid being kicked by the person sleeping next to her, alluding to her huband Khalid Mohd Jiwa. She then followed her statement with a ‘wink’ icon.
Siti, who shot to fame after winning the Bintang HMI contest when she was only 16, married businessman Khalid Jiwa in August 2006.
Another question relating to her household was from Siti Zuraidah Mohamad Ali who asked how she juggled her family life and career.
Siti replied that it was not a problem, thanks to the efforts of her personal assistant, Kak Zyee. Here are Siti Nurhaliza’s answers to the other questions posed:
- What are your hobbies? (From: Norul Ehsan Mohni): "Watching movies, bowling and riding."
- Other than using your own line of 'SimplySiti' beauty products, what else do you do to keep your skin looking bright and beautiful? (From Viability Hamzah): "I take vitamins, get plenty of sleep, exercise and always think positive."
If not a singer, a policewoman
- Do you ever think of becoming an author and writing a book about yourself which may become a guide for those who want to achieve success in their careers and life? (From: Teo Shu Shan): "I plan to come out with an autobiography, along with exclusive photos. Look out for it!"
- Which of all your achievements as an entertainer left the greatest impact on you? (From: Norashikin): "The most meaningful experiences were the concert at the Royal Albert Hall in London, winning local and international awards and all the concerts which got a good response."
- If you weren’t a singer, what career would you have pursued? (From: M Johan): "I would definitely have become a policewoman. You don’t believe me?"
In all, close to 2,000 people participated in the 'Question Time' session, many of whom sent in multiple questions. Yahoo! Malaysia’s Facebook page was also denuded with comments and questions for the adored singer.
Siti, who has about 400,000 Facebook followers herself, gamely posed for photographs, which were put up on Yahoo! Malaysia’s Facebook page and Twitter feed.
She also autographed exclusive Yahoo! note pads which will be given away to 10 fans who sent in questions judged to be the best during the chat session.
The iconic singer later told Yahoo! Malaysia that while she was more used to Tweeting, she found the 'Question Time' segment both fun and enlightening. |
