Abhishek promotes Bluff Master in New York
Long ago when he had visited New York for the first time -- he was studying then in Montreaux, Switzerland -- Abhishek Bachchan fell in love with the city almost at the first glance. Among many things, he loved walking across the city.
"This city is truly made for walking," he says. "There cannot be a dull moment when you are on your feet in New York. "This is the first time I am shooting in New York, and it has truly been hectic. But whenever I get a chance, I shake my security guys off and go for a walk."
Abhishek is currently in NYC shooting for Karan Johar's Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna, also starring Shah Rukh Khan, Rani Mukerji, Preity Zinta, Arjun Rampal and his father Amitabh Bachchan.
And while in the city, he's also doing the publicity for his forthcoming film, Bluff Master, directed by Rohan Sippy, his buddy from his school days in Switzerland.
They had worked together on Kuch Naa Kaho, released over two years ago, which Rohan directed.
Abhishek plays a conman in Bluff Master, who runs out of tricks and he faces a few dilemmas.
Rohan, son of director Ramesh Sippy (Sholay), lived in New York for about a year after graduating from Stanford University. He did odd jobs including working in a coffee shop.
Bluff Master, which pairs Abhishek and Priyanka Chopra, was shot entirely in Mumbai. But given the passion Abhishek and Rohan have for New York, should we be surprised if they make a film in the city next?

At preset, only a few directors or the producers can dare sign him in their movies. However, Shah Rukh hasn't yet forgotten his first launch movie 'Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa'. Incidentally, Star Gold has decided to celebrate the super star's birthday by telecasting on November 1 and 2, the most auspicious days of Deepawali, the Nasreen Munni Kabeer made documentary ' The Inner and Outer World of SRK'.

I like to sell a dream: Shah Rukh Khan
To describe Shah Rukh Khan as the single-most influential star-actor of the post-Amitabh Bachchan era would be no exaggeration. In the last 12 years, this Khan has redefined Bollywood superstardom and also extended the frontiers of the boxoffice. Apparently unconscious of the power that he projects, exudes and commands, Shah Rukh Khan on his 40 th birthday reveals to Subhash K Jha how he intends to extend his vision as an actor and an entertainer.
How does the year feel to you?
Life is exhausting, but very good. Till recently I though films and film personalities were hardly eligible for national honours. I'm happy cinema is being taken seriously and finally being considered an art form. Earlier painters and dancers, and not film actors were considered good enough for national honours. They do a fine job, so do we. But just because we actors get more popularity it shouldn't preclude us from government-endorsed awards.
I hope film actors and actresses get more national awards. It feels very nice. I'm very proud of it. I never thought I'd get a Padmashri. It makes me feel what I've been doing is worth something. Insha Allah, I hope I can get higher national awards in the years to come.
Your Padmashri coincided with a whole truckload of popular awards this year.
This year it felt even nicer because I got various popular awards for different performances. I think it's more appropriate if an actor is awarded for his entire body of work during a year rather than just one performance. I felt good getting awards this year for Veer-Zaara, Main Hoon Na and Swades.
I think all the films that I've done this year have contributed in equal measures in making me what I was during the year. In fact I thanked the directors of all three films during every awards function. I love getting awards, eventhough some people think I get too many awards and that they've lost their relevance in my career.
Swades was exceptional because it's very far removed from your other films. Did its boxoffice failure disappoint you?
No! I always say, it's not the `manzil` but the journey that matters. I often don't watch my completed film. I enjoy the process of acting in them. I push it promote it, participate in the projection卆nd then I move on. Then I don't make any inquiries about the boxoffice performance. It isn't that I'm detached from the end-result, because I hope for the sake of the people behind my films that they do well.
I enjoy doing all my film regardless of how it finally performs. As for Swades I told the director Ashutosh Gowariker that it won't work commercially. The film was nobly intended |

Kareena, Priyanka repeat in ad now
The pair of Kareena Kapoor and Priyanka Chopra of their 'Aitraaz' has been repeated this time in an ad and not in a movie. Interestingly, both the actresses in the Pepsi ad are being directed by another woman, film director Farah Khan. Unlike many other actresses having strained relations among them, Kareena and Priyanka have developed a good rapport and have never competed with each other ever since they acted in 'Aitraaz'. That's why Kareena says, " I anxiously awaited to act with Priyanka in the ad." Priyanka who has signed a two-year contract with Pepsi for an amount of Rs 20 million, reciprocates Kareena's sentiments. " I was indeed very excited since I came to know that Kareena would be there with me, and Farah Khan would direct our ad film. Both of us would have a nice time for the shooting schedule of twelve days", she added.

Nargis makes Bips tense
Bipasha Basu is tense these days. Though everyone is aware of the thick relationship between Bips and her boyfriend John Abraham, yet Bips is very much worried about the growing relations between John and his 'Garam Masala' heroine Nargis. Nargis has been frequently seen around John and showering praises on the latter. The main irritant was the launch party of 'Garam Masala' in Mumbai where Nargis kept herself around him all the time giving no chance to Bips. However, Bips won't let Nargis snatch away John from her.

John ranks third in ad movies
John Abraham ranks third in the ad world. He is just behind two top actors -Amitabh Bachchan and Shah Rukh Khan. John's name was added recently when he was appointed Brand Ambassador of Castrol India. His association with motorbike is well known.

Aish as first citizen
Former Miss World Aishwarya Rai deserves to be called "First Citizen" among the galaxy of Indian female stars as Amitabh Bachchan ranks first among male stars. Though 32 , she has already obtained a status of being one among the hundred top Indians . Before her entry into Bollywood, the female star was considered second sex. However, her performances in ' Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam', 'Devdas' and 'Chokher Bali' have raised female stars' status to that of first class. She has a universal appeal and this has been witnessed in her 'Bride And Prejudice', 'Mistress of Spices,' and 'Provoked'. Besides, she is likely to be signed for forthcoming projects like ' Umrao Jaan' and 'Akbar Jodha' too.

Aishwarya Rai: Birthday thoughts from abroad
"I've no qualms about admitting I'm 32 today. What's the big deal? I feel anything from 18 to 88 on any given day, depending on my state of mind. The infamous giggle comes in when I feel 18," she giggled.
In Slovakia on her birthday on 1 November, the stunning Rai definitely felt 18. "It's been such a wonderful wonderful birthday. The whole unit of my film (The Last Legion) brought in my birthday. Since my birthday coincides with Diwali I feel doubly special today. They had put up a banner saying 'Happy Diwali , Aishwarya'. And then they had arranged for the most awesome firecrackers. I have to admit this is one birthday I'm not likely to forget easily."
She has just about wrapped up the shooting of The Last Legion. "Just a few more days to go and then I'm back home. Gawd! How I miss my family! It isn't so much because of my birthday that I want to be with my family. It's Diwali. Come on, yaar! Everyone wants to be home for the festival. Even my mother isn't with me here in Slovakia because of Diwali.
"You know, the last couple of times I managed to be home for Diwali. So I was looking forward to it again this year. But my schedules don't allow me the luxury of doing what I crave to."
After she wraps up The Last Legion in about a week, Aishwarya comes straight to Mumbai for Dhoom 2. "Umrao Jaan starts in December. We shoot that in Rajasthan. I know what miracles JP Saab has worked in Rajasthan in Ghulami and Batwara. I'm really looking forward to it. As for Dhoom 2 it will be great fun桰 know. It's the first time I'll be working with Hrithik |

Karan Johar might have tried to quiz her about the once upon a time love in her life Salman Khan, but she refused to comment. Such openness and respect of ones dignity is not really a common sight in the entertainment industry. Recently, there was an all new controversy around the supposed tapes of conversation between the two, but all we go to see of her, was while praying in a temple.
Item numbers
The latest obsession of the country, of course, is Kajrare. The look on her face, the ease with which exhibits her newly acquired sexiness have all caused frenzy. Her jhatkas and matkas, pout, low ghaghra, high choli |

URMILA: NO AGE FOR LOOKING SEXY
At one time Urmila Matondkar was known in Bollywood for her sexy image and had stormed the industry by her item number "Chhamma Chhamma?.". The viewers didn't know that still bolder and sexier damsels were waiting in the wings to join the industry. They realized this with the entry of Bipasha Basu, Neha Dhupia and Mallika Sherawat in the industry. These girls provided them more than what the viewers could ever imagine in terms of body exposure and smooches. These girls left Urmila much behind. The industry got fed up with the skin shows, and in fact, started rejecting movies with such vulgar and indecent scenes. Even Urmila felt shy of such movies! We asked Urmila about her perception of the heroines indulging in such a body exposure at the cost of their skill.
What's your perception of being sexy?
One doesn't look sexy by wearing scant clothes or removing them at the drop of a hat. One needs to possess sexy body language and personality to look sexy. Without it no one can ever succeed.
What's Bollywood's perception of being sexy?
There is a great need to define the term sexy in the industry.
How do you look at today's heroines?
These heroines are ready to do anything and everything to look sexy. This spoils the women's image in general.
Is there any age limit for being sexy?
No, there is no limit. One can look sexy even at the age of sixty. For example, Amitabh Bachchan looks sexy when he comes out of the jail and looks at his wife in 'Sarkar' because of his body language and personality.
What are your forthcoming movies?
You know that I have acted in 'Maine Gandhi Ko Nahin Maara'. Besides, I have acted in 'Banares' starring Raj Babbar, Dimple Kapadia, Ashmit Patel in key roles.
What's this all about? When is it likely to release?
The movie is about the religious and cultural aspects of the holy city of Banares. The movie will release in December.

KAJOL: I SHALL DO ONE MOVIE A YEAR
She is shooting now for Yash Chopra's 'Fanaa' starring Aamir Khan and Tabu, besides her. However, she has appeared in some television ads though only recently. We chatted with her after she unveiled DTC's new ASMI collection of 14 designs of rings, pendants, and ear rings. Addressing a large crowd of consumers, Kajol announced, "These 14 designs have been exclusively handpicked by me. The sparkle of the larger diamond in each piece signifies the inner spirit of a woman - progressive, versatile and unique. Each of these ASMI designs is a favorite of mine. I love diamonds." Regarding her comeback via 'Fanaa', she has clarified that she will not act fulltime in movies as she has come back due to her fondness for them. She will do one movie a year and will spend the rest of her time with her daughter and husband Ajay Devgan. She says that she waited to act with Aamir Khan again as she worked with him in 'Ishq'. Excerpts of chat with her:
How did you feel working with Aamir Khan?
I feel nice. I have also worked with Aamir Khan in 'Ishq', but then I had acted as Ajay Devgan's heroine in it. Moreover, its shooting was over within two days. In fact, I was waiting to act with him again.
Will you be at ease during the 'Fanaa's shooting with him?
Yes, both of us read its script together and had a closer understanding about our roles.
Has Aamir changed the script of 'Fanaa'?
This is rubbish. Nothing of this sort has happened.
What's the story of 'Fanaa' and your role in it?
This is an interesting story and my role in it is too strong.
How do you like working with its director Kunal Kohli?
I like Kunal Kohli and also his film 'Hum Tum'. I have high hopes with 'Fanaa' too.
Will you be working fulltime in films?
No, I shall do one movie a year. Since I love my daughter too much I cannot be away from her for long hours. I cannot shoot the whole day. I need rest. Besides, I want to spend time with Ajay Devgan too. I am doing films as a hobby.
Are you doing any movie with Shah Rukh Khan?
No, there is no such plan???
Delhi hosts 'Fanaa' shooting
Delhi, the capital of India, has of late drawn the attention of Bollywood filmmakers towards its rich heritage for shooting locations. Earlier too many filmmakers have chosen it for shooting a part of their movies. Since Delhi has been a historical city that has witnessed the rise and fall of several empires in the past five thousand years, the directors look towards the city for its historical monuments. The latest to enter the city is Yash Chopra's team to film 'Fanna'. Its director Kunal Kohli is keen on showcasing the rich heritage of Delhi. Sources close to Chopras in Delhi say that the cast comprising Kajol, Aamir Khan and Tabu has reached the city to shoot their movie at Red Fort, Jantar Mantar, Qutab Minar, Purana Quila and Lodhi Gardens, besides Chandni Chowk, Old Delhi Railway Station, and Kaudia Pul ( close to the station). Yash Raj Films has already secured the permission from the Archeological Survey of India (ASI) for shooting for nine days. The filmmaker is paying Rs 5000 a day for this purpose. However, the people can visit the monuments even when the shooting is on. Only a small area of the monuments will be allowed for the shooting and visitors can tour other areas of the monuments, according to ASI. This decision has been taken by ASI following public protests some two years back when the entry to the Tughlaqabad Fort was banned during the shooting of Hrithik Roshan - starrer 'Lakshya'.

BIG B'S ' EK AJNABI' TO RELEASE IN DECEMBER
Amitabh Bachchan is allergic to the filmi titles of super and mega stars, but the fact is that he is the living legend of Bollywood. Yes, Dilip Kumar retains the title but he is no more acting in films. Amitabh plays different characters these days. We shall soon see him in producers B. Balia and Jasprit Singh's ' Ek Ajnabi' releasing next month. Amitabh plays a strange army officer named Suryaveer Singh who has turned just indifferent towards life. Incidentally, he has to take up the responsibility of an eight-year-old girl on his shoulders. This girl is named Anamika .
She provides Amitabh though slowly an aim to lead an active life. However, Suryaveer Singh and Animika lose touch with each other accidentally. Luckily, Perizad Zorabian as Anamika's mother and Arjun Rampal in the role of an army officer lend complete support to Amitabh in the film. Apurva Lakhia is proud to direct this film, and claims that he has completed this movie by continuously shooting it in Bangkok for 4o days. The USP of the movie, according to Apurva, is the central character of Amitabh. Besides action, the movie is full of emotions too. Apurva is conscious of the fact that his earlier movie 'Mumbai Se Aaya Mera Dost' starring Abhishek Bachchan and Lara Dutta hadn't met with his expectations.

AMISHA'S HOURGLASS FIGURE CHARMS FANS
She's a stunner, even without make-up and in casual clothes. Amisha Patel recently went jewelry shopping and in her girl-next-door apparel. It was nothing like the glam heroine you see on screen. Yet, her hourglass figure and porcelain complexion got her a lot of "wows". Then a few weeks ago, Amisha was at Fame Adlab to catch a film. Standing quietly in a corner, the petite and pretty star had many turning back for a second look. Fortunately for her, it took a while for being recognized. And by the time someone realized that she was the 'Kaho Naa...Pyar Hai' sensation, Amisha had safely disappeared into the darkness of the auditorium.

AMISHA PATEL SAYS NO TO 'ARRANGED MARRIAGE'
Amisha Patel, who recently attended the Marrakech film festival in Morocco, has two less films in her kitty - Piyush Pandey's 'Arranged Marriage' and Anil Sharma's 'Ab Tumhare Hawale Watan Saathiyon', starring (Amitabh Bachchan , Bobby Deol and Akshay Kumar). "I am not doing 'Arranged Marriage'," Amisha confirms, "but the whole thing was very amicably settled". "Eighty per cent of the dates that Piyush wanted for 'Arranged Marriage' were clashing with my dates for 'Elaan', and I didn't think it fair to put Ratan Jain in trouble as 'Elaan' had been finalised eight months before and the dates were given to him in writing."
We hear that the script for 'Arranged Marriage' is rather regressive. Amisha agrees. "Yes, it is a regressive film and when I read the script I found the role of the girl to be nothing exceptional. 'American Desi' (Pandey's earlier film) was one of its kind. Everybody is into crossover films these days, so to do one just for the heck of doing such a film doesn't make sense. I don't know how the director will treat the film, but at the script level the film didn't intrigue me." Piyush Pandey, who is currently in the USA, was unavailable for comment.
As for 'Ab Tumhare Hawale Watan Saathiyon', Amisha doesn't deny the fact that she walked out of this multi-starrer. "I dropped out of the film because there was a lot of politics involved," she says. "There were things that surprised and shocked me and I was stumped by Anil Sharma's actions. Dates, money etc had not been an issue. It feels really bad, but I'm glad that today I am not a part of this project."
But rumour has it that Amisha had been thrown out of the project because of her tantrums. She responds: "They have taken two new girls in the film so do you think it would have been wise to replace me? People are laughing at the cast today. The lead actress' role was supposed to have been done by someone established because of the kind of performance, screen time and relationship she had to have with the audiences. It made the project a lot stronger when I was there. We had discussed the role, the look of my character (a Rajasthani widow) and I attended the music sittings even."
It is alleged that Amisha was upset because director Anil Sharma was promoting newcomer Divya Khosla and brother Kapil Sharma. When hero Akshay Kumar recommended Gul Panag for the film, Amisha felt that the project was becoming a family drama.
Anil Sharma has a different story to tell though. "I neither signed Amisha nor was a verbal commitment, so the question of her walking out of the film doesn't arise," he says. "There were talks going on but then I decided to give newcomers a break. "Apart from Sandali Sinha, I am introducing Delhi model Divya Khosla and my brother Kapil Sharma in the film. Amisha is a wonderful girl and a talented actress and will always be like a family member, but I wanted to give a new girl a break."
