game maria tu sendiri compare to her game sblm2 ni terutama pd hard court interface...
byk sgt buat unforced errors..
& lg 1.. terpaksalah akui.. time dia sblm serve.. dgn rutin dia yg biasa.. amik masa yg 'lama' then lps tu double fault
pernah iols post sblm ni, maria dari segi calmness dia dah kureng .. she needs improve a lot... & change her game..
game dia rata2 her opponents dah blh jangka & fit..

Day 8 Recap: Serena stands alone, Kei plays on
By E.J. Crawford
Monday, September 1, 2014
![](http://www.usopen.org/images/pics/large/b_01SEP14_13444_serena.jpg)
Ten started, two remain. Of the Top 10 women’s seeds, only No. 1 Serena Williams and No. 10 Caroline Wozniacki survived Day 8 – the halfway point – at the 2014 US Open. The seventh seed Eugenie Bouchard was the latest to fall, going down Monday afternoon to talented lefty shot-maker Ekaterina Makarova.
The unprecedented run of upsets makes this the first time in the Open era that only one of the top eight seeds has advanced to the US Open’s round of eight, and also the first time that just two of the Top 10 seeds have done the same. Three Top 10 seeds advanced in 1993 and 2009, the previous lows. (Coincidentally enough, three of the quarterfinalists in 2009 were Serena Williams, Caroline Wozniacki and Flavia Pennetta, all of whom are back in the quarters this year.)
While the women’s upsets have come free and easy, registering an upset on the men’s side required a match that rewrote the record books. In a back-and-forth battle that wrapped up at 2:26 a.m., tied for the latest finish in recorded US Open history, and required 4 hours and 19 minutes, making it the longest match of the tournament, No. 10 Kei Nishikori outlasted No. 5 Milos Raonic in an epic five-setter. Posting far easier victories, some 10 to 12 hours earlier, in fact, were Novak Djokovic and Andy Murray, who will now face off in a highly anticipated Wednesday quarterfinal between former champions.
Here’s a recap of the day that was and a look ahead to Day 9 of the 2014 US Open:
Match of the Day (men’s edition): The signs of a close contest were there early on. Deuce games. Breaks reciprocated. Tiebreaks. And on and on it went, past midnight, past 1 a.m., past even 2 a.m. for just the fifth time in tournament history. When it was all over, more than four hours after it had begun, No. 10 Kei Nishikori had advanced to the quarterfinals at the US Open for the first time his career, having fended off the drooping eyelids of the assembled throng and the gargantuan serve of No. 5 Milos Raonic, 4-6, 7-6, 6-7, 7-4, 6-4. And while Nishikori will now try to recover in time to face No. 3 seed Stan Wawrinka on Wednesday, Raonic is left to lament another missed opportunity in the fourth round of the US Open. Just last year, he fell to Richard Gasquet in a similar marathon, 6-7, 7-6, 2-6, 7-6, 7-5, that one checking in at 4 hours, 40 minutes.
Match of the Day (women's edition): Aleksandra Krunic came into the US Open ranked No. 145 in the world. The 21-year-old lost in the first round of qualifying for the Australian Open, the second round of qualifying at the French Open and the first round of qualies again at Wimbledon. She spent most of the year playing on the Challenger circuit, without winning a singles title. Yet on Monday night she stood toe to toe with two-time US Open finalist Victoria Azarenka, bidding to become just the second women’s qualifier in recorded US Open history (Barbara Gerken in 1981 being the other) to advance to the quarterfinals. And she very nearly pulled it off. In a match of gritty baseliners with agile feet, Krunic and Azarenka pushed each other around the court for nearly two-and-a-half hours before the two-time Grand Slam champion finally prevailed, winning, 4-6, 6-4, 6-4, to advance to the quarterfinals, pumping her fist and yawping in celebration at the end. It was a final acknowledgement that Krunic, who defeated No. 27 Madison Keys and No. 3 Petra Kvitova en route to the round of 16, made her work for every single point.
Player of the Day: Andy Murray achieved his lifelong goals in quick succession: claiming the Olympic gold medal in London at the 2012 Olympics, capturing his first Grand Slam title at the 2012 US Open and then snapping a 77-year British drought in men’s singles by winning the Wimbledon title in 2013. But he has not been back to a singles final of any kind since, having missed time following back surgery, switched Slam-winning coaches from Ivan Lendl to Amelie Mauresmo and nearly dropping out of the Top 10 – all of which prompted many to question if he would even reach the second week here in New York. A deeper dive, though, reveals a somewhat steadier climb back to the top. With Simona Halep’s loss earlier in the tournament and Eugenie Bouchard’s defeat on Day 8, Murray and Novak Djokovic are now the only two players, men or women, to have reached the quarterfinals or better at all four Grand Slams in 2014. Murray achieved that feat on Monday with a surprisingly routine 7-5, 7-5, 6-4 victory over Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, who had beaten him earlier this summer in Toronto, setting up a blockbuster quarterfinal between former US Open champions and fellow quarterfinal wonders: Murray versus Djokovic.
Upset of the Day: We’ve reached the point in the women’s draw where it’s an upset if the seed wins. That said, tip your cap to Ekaterina Makarova, who has quietly put together a terrific season. The No. 17 seed added another chapter to it on Monday, knocking off No. 7 Eugenie Bouchard, 7-6, 6-4, to reach the quarterfinals of her second consecutive Grand Slam tournament and her second straight US Open. In addition to her runs in the last two majors, Makarova also won a second career title earlier this year, in Pattaya, and advanced to the round of 16 at the Australian Open in January to enter the Open ranked a career-best No. 18. For Bouchard, the loss ends a stellar first full season of Grand Slam play prematurely. Coming into the Flushing Meadows, she was the only player in tennis, man or woman, to reach the semifinals or better at each of the year’s first three Slams.
Quote of the Day: “I finally made a quarterfinal this year. I’m glad to do it in New York.” – top seed Serena Williams, who had lost in the fourth round or sooner at each of the other three majors, to the crowd in Arthur Ashe Stadium following her victory over Kaia Kanepi
Looking Ahead: So who in this year’s US Open Bracket Challenge had Belinda Bencic playing Peng Shuai in the quarterfinals? No matchup better illustrates the unpredictable nature of this year’s women’s draw than these two unseeded players at very different junctures of their careers – Bencic is 17 years old, Peng 28 – facing off for a spot in the semifinals. The winner will become just the 10th unseeded woman in the Open era to advance to the US Open semifinals.
The Bencic-Peng victor will get the winner of the No. 10 Caroline Wozniacki versus No. 13 Sara Errani Tuesday nightcap in the semifinals. The Dane-Italian matchup features two of the best retrievers on tour, both fit as fiddles, in a match that is highly unlikely to wrap up within two hours.
The men, meantime, will be completing their elite eight with five-time champion Roger Federer taking on first-time fourth-rounder Roberto Bautisa Agut; Tomas Berdych facing the lone unseeded player into the men’s round of 16: 20-year-old Dominic Thiem; and Marin Cilic going up against Gilles Simon. The most entertaining affair of the day could very well be Gael Monfils facing Grigor Dimitrov, in a matchup of two of the most talented, stylistic and athletic men on tour.
