Schuster clears air with Real Madrid's Ramos
Real Madrid coach Bernd Schuster and Sergio Ramos have held clear-the-air talks.
Ramos was dropped to the bench for Real's victory over Athletic Bilbao just 24 hours after a disparaging interview he gave in the Madrid press.
AS says Schuster met with Ramos at the club's Valdebebas HQ for a no holds barred summit.
Ramos apologised to Schuster for the interview, while the coach told his defender that "my door is always open" and there is "no need to send messages through the press".
Schuster also explained to Ramos that he dropped him for the Bilbao game because "you said in the interview you were tired and were playing in pain, so I decided you needed a break".
He also said: "Do not stop believing in us, Sergio, because we believe in you. And you must realise you are a very important player in this team and you must produce the best Ramos because we need you."

Real players come to the defence of Ramos
[quote]Real Madrid stars Gabriel Heinze and Wesley Sneijder have defended team-mate Sergio Ramos following the Spain defender's scathing attack on the club.
Ramos caused a stir last week when he publicly criticised coach Bernd Schuster's tactics, claiming he is unhappy at the way he is being played in the team.
Schuster responded by dropping the 22-year-old from the side for the weekend's game against Athletic Bilbao but, although Heinze believes Ramos was wrong to speak out in public, he feels his team-mate's complaints are justified.
"You have to keep the truths in the dressing room, which is a footballer's most sacred place and even God shouldn't enter there," Heinze told Spanish television channel TVE. "Sergio said what he though and that's that. He spoke with the coach and it stops there.
"The only thing I don't agree with is that he made it public."
Ramos prefers to play in the right-back position where he can make incisive runs down the flank, but he has found attacking opportunities limited this season by Schuster's system.
Sneijder has also leapt to Ramos' defence, telling Telemadrid: "Ramos was right in several things, but not in all. He is the best when we start attacking and if he can play like that he is the best in the world."
Michel Salgado replaced Ramos in the team over the weekend and, although the veteran defender has refused to reveal what happened behind closed doors, he claims the incident is already behind them.
"We have talked," he said. "But the conversations that take place in the dressing room remain there. The matter is resolved. Everything has been sorted out.
"He might have been wrong, but the important thing that remains with us is that he knew how to react. He has behaved like a man in front of his team-mates. We have all made mistakes at one time or another, so we shouldn't give it any importance. In the dressing room we haven't.
"What's most important is that everything has been sorted out because then there won't be any more returns to the story and because Sergio is a very important player for Real Madrid and we need him to be 100%."
Reports in Spain at the weekend suggested Ramos, who Madrid have always claimed is not for sale, could now be heading for the Bernabeu exit door.
However. former Real Madrid sporting director Arrigo Sacchi has defended the player and pleaded with fans to forgive him.
"You can make mistakes in life," the ex-Italy and AC Milan coach told Radio Marca. "What's important is to apologise and not repeat them. Sergio is still a young boy although he is already quite experienced.
"At times you should think a bit before speaking. But he is also a good and generous lad, you have to forgive him."
Sacchi also waded into the new row between the Spanish champions and Manchester United after Red Devils coach Sir Alex Ferguson was quoted this week claiming Real Madrid only signed Gabriel Heinze as a means of luring Cristiano Ronaldo to the Bernabeu.
"I read today that Ferguson has been complaining about Madrid, that they are not behaving like gentlemen," added the former Parma coach. "But that's a man talking, a club talking, who committed a robbery with Giuseppe Rossi who is now at Villarreal.
"When I was at Parma they took advantage of the bankruptcy of Parmalat to steal Rossi from us, who was only 16."
Rossi joined United's youth team in 2004 for only |

Madrid loses 3-2 to third-division Real Union in Copa del Rey
Spain - Third-division Real Union upset Real Madrid 3-2 in the Copa del Rey on Thursday, continuing the Spanish league champion's poor record in the knockout competition it hasn't won since 1993.
Juan Dominguez scored twice and Inaki Goikoetxea netted the winner for Real Union, while Gonzalo Higuain and Javier Saviola replied in the fourth round first-leg match for Madrid, which will need a victory to progress from the return leg at Santiago Bernabeu Stadium on Nov. 12.
Madrid was the fourth top-flight team to suffer an upset in this week's Copa del Rey games.
On Wednesday, Villarreal was humiliated 5-0 at third-division Polideportivo Ejido, Racing Santander went down 2-1 at second-division Murcia, while Sevilla lost 1-0 at third-division Ponferradina.
There was a scare in the 14th minute when Madrid's Spain midfielder Ruben De La Red fell as he walked away from the Real Union penalty area. De La Red was carried off on a stretcher after being treated for two minutes.
Reports said De La Red fainted but quickly recovered consciousness at Real Union's Gal Stadium. The 23-year-old player was taken to hospital as a precaution but would reportedly be allowed to travel back to Madrid with his teammates.
Madrid coach Bernd Schuster fielded an understrength team, with goalkeeper Iker Casillas, captain Raul Gonzalez, striker Ruud van Nistelrooy among those rested.
Real Union, which won the competition in 1924, stunned the league champions in the second minute when Dominguez forced his way past Madrid right back Michel Salgado and sidefooted his shot past goalkeeper Jerzy Dudek.
Madrid took eight minutes to tie the score, Higuain capitalizing on a defence-splitting pass from captain Jose Maria "Guti" Gutierrez to sidefoot home.
The minnows regained the lead in the 21st after Madrid defender Christoph Metzelder lost possession. Joseba Aguirre crossed from the right and Dominguez ran in to power a header past Dudek.
Saviola, who had wasted a clear chance moments earlier, made amends by equalizing in the 53rd minute with a curling, rising shot after Real Union failed to deal with a corner.
However, Real Union again responded and Goikoetxea turned home Felix Quero's cross from the right in the 63rd for his team's winning goal.
First-division clubs have entered the competition at this stage, with rules stating that those who are drawn against lower-league opponents must play the first leg away from home.
Barcelona won 1-0 at third-division Benidorm on Tuesday, while holders Valencia beat Portugalete 4-1 on Wednesday.
