Gerrard Charged: Is He Really An Example To Everyone?
Remember this statement from Rafa last month: “He is an example to everyone”.
Ironically enough he was talking about Stevie Me. Yes, that’s rights, the very same fine, upstanding pillar of the community who’s been arrested and subsequently charged with assault and affray.
Merseyside Police have confirmed “Merseyside Police has charged Steven Gerrard, 28 years, of Formby, Sefton, John Doran, 29, and Ian Smith, 19 years, both from Huyton, Liverpool, with assault occasioning actual bodily harm and affray following an incident at Bold Street in Southport in the early hours of Monday, December 29. The three men will be appearing at North Sefton Magistrates’ Court on January 23.” (lambat lagi nk masok jel...)
Still, I’m sure he’s got a perfectly good defence. Maybe he accidentally poked his 34 year old victim in the eye with his halo?
Certainly, the club have already given the thug midfielder their backing, stating “Steven has been an outstanding servant to Liverpool for the last 10 years and the club will give him all the support he needs at this time.” And as for the supporters, well if they’ll forgive him a bit of flirtation with rival clubs, then the odd punch-up is hardly going to affect their adulation.
I’m sure he’s polishing his MBE and straightening his halo as we speak.

Liverpool team-mates rally round Steven Gerrard as he returns to training
Steven Gerrard put his troubles behind him yesterday as he shared some banter with his Liverpool team-mates at training.
Gerrard was back at Melwood for the first time since being charged with assault and affray and looked relieved to be among his pals again.
One of the first to meet the Reds skipper was striker Fernando Torres and Gerrard was clearly at ease with his team-mates despite the freezing temperatures at the club's indoor facility.
Liverpool are trying to make it business as usual for the midfielder. He swept through the gates of Melwood just after 10am and played a full part in training following the players' two-day break. The England star is focused on Saturday's FA Cup tie at Preston -although boss Rafa Benitez is expected to stick with his decision to rest him.
Benitez said: "He's keen now to focus solely on his football. We'll do whatever we can to support Steven in the weeks ahead, but we're now concentrating on our preparation for the FA Cup game at Preston this weekend."
Liverpool legend Kenny Dalglish, who chatted with Gerrard in the Southport bar just before the alleged brawl took place in the early hours of Monday morning, said:"He's a really strong character and I'm sure it won't affect his performance."

Agger Wants Liverpool To Score Early At Fortress Anfield
Reports have been flying around suggesting that injury-plagued Milanwill take advantage of Daniel Agger's uncertain future on Merseyside byswooping for him this month.
The Danish stopper's current deal has 18 months to run, but he's desperate to renegotiate terms and sign an extension.
However, the Reds are yet to put pen and paper on front of him and his agentrecently admitted that he was unsure regarding the prospect of Agger'slong-term future on Merseyside.
Still, although the 24-year-oldhas flitted in and out of the team since returning from long-terminjury, 'Pool have had a lot to contend with. The added pressure oftopping the Premier League pile, the transfer speculation surroundingRobbie Keane, boss Rafa Benitez's kidney stones and, now, skipperSteven Gerrard's arrest are all factors which could have held up talks.
Nevertheless,Agger remains positive and has his mind focused on the title. In orderto finish as champions, believes the defender, Anfield must be afortress in 2009.
He told the Liverpool Echo: "Liverpool go into every game trying to win it, especially when we are playing at Anfield.
"It doesn抰 matter if we win one, two or three nil - just as long as we win.
"Sometimeswe've found it difficult to break teams down at home, but an early goalcan open things up a bit more and let us play more freely.
"Now, it is important that we just keep on going."
Firstly, though, the Reds must overcome Preston North End at Deepdale in the FA Cup Third Round at the weekend.

Benitez Admits Liverpool May Not Act In Transfer Market
Liverpool currently top the Premier League table, are three pointsclear, and have achieved that lofty height without clinical strikerFernando Torres.Manager Rafa Benitez has today told the BBC that he will be loath toadd to his squad, deeming a January acquisition as both expensive, andunnecessary.
"It will be difficult to bring anyone in January because we have a good squad.
"To bring in anyone better than what we抳e got isn抰 easy and could be expensive," he said.
There have been rumours in the press about a return to Merseysidefor former Liverpool player and England international Emile Heskey; whohas gone from pantomime villain to cult hero in the past few years.
Tottenham Hotspur winger Aaron Lennon has also been linked with a Liverpool switch.
The exit door may be in use too, as Jermain Pennant and Andrea Dossena may both be deemed surplus to requirements.

Liverpool will be without the services of Emiliano Insua for the next month due to his participation in the Under-20 South American Championships with Argentina in Venezuela.
The left back, who has started the last four matches in the first team, will be away until February 8 meaning he won't be available for this weekend's game with Stoke, the double header with Everton or the Anfield clash with Chelsea.
Joining Insua in the tournament will be reserve defender Ronald Huth who will be representing Paraguay.
The tournament runs from January 19 until February 8, and is staged every two years.
