There are two things we love about Taiwan: bubble tea and Jay Chou.
King of Mandopop Jay Chou finally crossed paths with popular Malaysian comedian Uncle Roger on the internet yesterday after the latter gave a shout-out to the singer in a YouTube video of himself working at a bubble tea shop.
But little did the UK-based comedian know that the Taiwanese superstar and actor would drop a “Hahaha #UncleRoger” comment on his Instagram, kicking off the start of a new found friendship.
“Wow, thank you, President Chou! I listened to your songs when I was growing up!” Uncle Roger, whose real name is Nigel Ng, 29, responded to Chou, 41.
“Haha, your video is very interesting,” Chou replied.
Ng, who recently made international headlines for throwing shade at a BBC foodie for the way she cooked rice, posted a video of himself on Sunday showing him work at a bubble tea shop in Sweden and cracking jokes in front of customers.
Six minutes into the clip, Ng was heard responding to a customer asking whether the Machi Machi store was owned by Chou. The Green Hornet actor does not own the Taiwanese bubble tea chain but has said that it was his favourite boba brand.
“Jay Chou, I know you don’t own this place, but you are Uncle Roger’s favourite singer,” Ng said in the clip. “Fantasy, my favourite album. Niece and nephew, if you don’t know Jay Chou, he’s a big superstar global icon. He’s the Uncle Roger of music.”
Fans of both Chou and Ng have been gushing about their online exchange.
“Best shout out ever,” @Verbal_ambush wrote in the comments.
“Can you invite him to J-style Trip please?” @Hey_its_strawbs commented, referring to Chou’s Netflix series where the singer travels across the globe with his friends. |
