Amino acids are building block of protein. Meaning protein consists of amino acids. When we ingest protein food, the protein will breakdown into short chain amino acids then to single amino acids before absorped by the cells.
We need 22 types of amino acids, 8 are essential (8 essential amino acids) which our body cannot manufacture.
We need to get them from food. Amino acids are needed in blood production, manufacture of hormones, hair, nail, tissue and etc. Almost every parts of our body are made of protein.
Short of protein in our diet will lead to impaired immune system, muscle atrophy, lethargic and many health problems and ailments.
Foods that contain all the essential amino acids are called complete protein. Complete protein foods are whole egg, red meat, poultry, fish, seafood, milk, cheese and all animal based food.
Plant based protein foods are incomplete protein because they are short of at least one essential amino acids. |
