Malaysian makes ‘best sandwich in the world

PETALING JAYA: A sandwich made with a dash of the humble kunyit (turmeric) by Malaysian chef Darren Chin (pic) was named the Best Sandwich in the World at the recent Delifrance Sandwich World Cup competition in France.
Darren’s father David Chin, 60, said his son beat eight other participants in the sandwich-making competition.
“It is an achievement – the sandwich is not a staple food here, but we can still make the best sandwich in the world,” he told The Star yesterday.
The Sandwich World Cup, which was organised by cafe-bakery chain Delifrance, took place on Feb 14 at the Paris School of Bakery and Pastry, and eight international entrants presented their sandwiches before a panel of international culinary experts.
The sandwiches presented in the competition had to meet certain criteria, including flavour association, speed of preparation and ease of assembly and consumption as well as “nutritional and cost price”.
Darren, 32, prepared a sandwich of pork combined with herbs and spices and decorated it with vegetables.
David said the “X-factor” ingredient in the sandwich that clinched it for Darren could be the kunyit.
“Darren wanted to demonstrate that the techniques he learned at his culinary school Le Cordon Blue can naturally be used with Asian ingredients,” he said.
“Some restaurants have already approached him and he will make his decision where to do his internship,” he said.

Daging babi ade bau! Itu sebab ia ditambah dengan pelbagai perase yang kuat. Yang orang suke bukan rase daging tu. Perase2 tiruan |

mcdonal tak de yg halal kt US kecuali tmpt2 tertentu shj...
org Islam kt US ni tak byk fikir ttg cara penyediaan yg bercampur2...cuma klu diorg ragu, just mintak tukar 'sarung tangan' jek...
tp boleh dikatakan mereka lebih alim dr kita wlpn kekangan dr segi mendapatkan makanan halal... |
