Penang PAS treasurer removed from MPPP posts over criticism of state government

by anthony tan

GEORGE TOWN: Penang PAS treasurer Iszuree Ibrahim (pic) who criticised the state government during the recent PAS muktamar in Johor has been removed from all his committee posts in the Penang Municipal Council (MPPP).

All his allocations have also been suspended.

Iszuree was informed of his removal via a letter on Friday signed by MPPP secretary Ang Aing Thye who stated that the decision was made by the state executive council meeting on Thursday.

Iszuree described his removal as unfair as what he stated in the PAS muktamar was more of an advice and suggestion.

“This does not portray the CAT (competent, accountable and transparent) principles championed by the state government,” he said when contacted Saturday.

He said he voiced out the suggestions at the muktamar for the good of the rakyat.

Iszuree, who represented Penang PAS in delivering the speech at the muktamar, said he was not given the chance to provide an explanation of the speech before he was removed.

“If we can’t voice out our opinions, what is the point of having a Speaker’s Corner at the Esplanade?” he asked.

Iszuree is also unsure if he is still a municipal councillor as the letter from Ang stated that he was only removed from the committee posts.

But he said the removal from these posts was akin to having his legs and hands chopped off and his mouth shut.

He said he had posts in three committees, namely planning and development, finance, and public health and licensing.

His appointment as a councillor is until the end of the year.

It was recently reported that Iszuree had taken a swipe at the DAP-led Penang state government for its “pro-developers’ policies.”

He said that prior to the 13th general election, there had been huge development projects in the state.

He expressed concern that the Malay settlements in Kampung Batu Uban and Tanjung Tokong were under threat of development and urged the state government to help in conservation work on the two areas.

“We had voiced our dissatisfaction over this, but nothing has been done.

“We don’t agree with policies that will bring negative implication to the rakyat.

“We hope that the Penang Chief Minister will come up with development policies that protects the rights of the residents and not implement decisions that maximises profits,” he said when debating the president’s policy speech at the PAS 60th muktamar.
