You point taken! I have to agree with FC on this one. Expertice is something we are slowly losing (in certain major areas).
Maintenance Culture and Learning Culture to me thats the solution. But you are saying that at current state RMN is losing/lacking expertice is maintaning an NGPV is worrying. I mean hey, no offence but its just a ship with half the capability.. anyway,the frustating part is that the problem is known but to get approval for rectification of the problem hmmm thats another story. Fuhh....don't know what is going to happen next... if our country get truely involved into the real war... Are we capable enough to protect our country with the asset that we already got and still underway of purchasing... Our ATM, i believed is very eager to equipped their strenght and capability in order preparing for unwanted situation plus to take care our national interest... But the problem now are we are lack of everything... Not enough skilled man power,budgets are constraint,government bureuqracy,agent mark up tinggi like hell... what else.. I still not see why we still not established our own military R&D.. Everything we must go negotiate with foreigners through an agent which said they can provided all the services... but by the end the ATM are stucked in the middle... Maintaining the equipments,skilled personnel to operate the equipment...to buy spares...there a lot things to solved out maaa... It all comes back to being patriotic and responsible....if one thinks of Ferraris, luxury yachts, big houses, loads of wives....one end up being another Amin Shah! Lekiu Batch 2 pula menjadi kapal perang tercanggih di ASEAN.
buat masa ini spesifikasi Lekiu Batch 2 masih lagi samar-samar kerana masih dalam perbincangan. tapi setakat ini spesifikasi adalah seperti berikut:
1. meriam utama Bofors 57mm Mk 3
2. SAM Aster 30
3. Exocet MM40 Mk 3
4. design yang lebih "stealth" berbanding Lekiu Batch 1.
aspek-aspek lain masih lagi dalam perbincangan seperti:
1. combat system
2. electro-optic
3. radar
4. EW suite

The Australian Ministry of Defence (MoD) announced Aug. 16 that it had chosen Gibbs & Cox as the preferred designer for the Royal Australian Navy抯 (RAN) Air Warfare Destroyer (AWD) program. The design choice is the last major decision point in the program. The builder and the integrator for the three new destroyers were chosen earlier.
Gibbs & Cox, with a conceptualized International Frigate design, was picked over two other competitors, Navantia with the F100 and Blohm+Voss with the F124.
The MoD May 31 selected ASC Shipbuilder Pty. Ltd. as the preferred builder of the three destroyers and granted first pass approval, with $345 million in funding, for further design work, initial infrastructure investment and facilities construction. ASC was selected over Tenix Defense and Northrop Grumman Ship Systems.
The selection of ASC will provide more than 1,000 direct jobs in Southern Australia, even though about 70 percent of the module construction will be sub-contracted to other shipyards throughout the country.
The MoD selected Raytheon Australia April 21 for the major electronic engineering contract in support of the combat system design and maintenance. Under an $11.6 million contract, the company is undertaking studies in order to help develop a combat system configuration based on the Lockheed Martin AEGIS core system. AEGIS was announced as the core combat system in August 2004.
With the designer, builder and integrator now selected, the RAN will move forward with a construction contract expected in the $4.4 billion program in 2006. The first unit is scheduled to commission by 2013, followed by unit two in 2015 and unit three in 2017.
