Thn 2006 , sosial aktivis Tarana Burke mula menggunakan hashtag #MeToo. Seorg gadis berusia 13 thn mengadu diserang secara sexual , dan Tarana tak mampu respon. Apabila mengenangkan kembali peristiwa tu ,  Tarana wished sheols simply ckp "me too" kpd mangsa.

Pergerakan #metoo adalah utk memperkasakan wanita (yg menderita krn sexual abuse) menerusi empati. Empati adalah memahami/merasai kesusahan yg dialami individu lain , seolah2 kesusahan itu dialami oleh diri sendiri.
