Record breaking Blues
Not only was the stunning victory over Chelsea last time out at the Etihad Stadium integral for the Blues to keep pace with United at the Premier League’s summit, it also marked a record twentieth consecutive home league win.
City are the first club to achieve this feat since the inception of the Premier League 20 years ago and only the fourth in top flight history, joining Liverpool, Newcastle United and Preston North End.
The Blues’ remarkable run began back on 5 March 2011 when a David Silva goal was enough to squeeze past a stubborn Wigan side. City then followed it up with a crushing five goal victory over this Saturday’s opponents Sunderland.

Loan watch : Guidetti back in groove
John Guidetti returned to goal-scoring ways for Feyenoord as one of a number of on-loan Blues in action for their respective clubs this weekend.
Despite finding the net on 18 occasions for the Dutch club this season, the striker had gone four games without a goal – his last coming against Waalwijk when he was subsequently dismissed after being shown a second yellow card for his celebration!
The Swede ended his lean spell when he opened the scoring during his side’s late 3-0 showing against bottom-club De Graafschap to preserve the club’s hopes of league glory. |

Tevez on target for reserves
Carlos Tevez continued his Manchester City rehabilitation with a goalscoring appearance for the reserves on Wednesday evening.
The Argentina striker, who has played as a substitute in City's last two Premier League games after a six-month absence, scored one and made another in a 6-1 rout of Morecambe.
It is the second goal the 28-year-old has scored for City's elite development squad since returning to training a month ago.
His performance will increase speculation he could start Saturday's first-team clash against Sunderland at the Etihad Stadium.
Former England midfielder Owen Hargreaves also started the Central League game at Morecambe, while Spanish youngster Joan Angel Roman scored a hat-trick. |

Aguero: Manchester City will fight to the end in title race
The forward has vowed that Roberto Mancini's side will battle to the final day to win the Premier League and is happy with the way that he has settled into life in England
By Simon Blaquiere
Manchester City forward Sergio Aguero has stressed that the team will battle until the end in a bid to win their first Premier League title in the club's history.
The Argentine believes that the club can round off a brilliant season by winning the league and has promised supporters that they will not stop fighting in their pursuit of glory.
"Why wait until next season if we can win it now?” he said to the club's official website.
“I can promise you that we’ll be fighting until the very end. We all want to make it, and though it won’t be easy, we believe we can win the Premier League this season.
"Winning titles is about never giving up and we will never give up. I want to win it this season and then many more with City after that.”
The former Atletico Madrid forward has netted an incredible 24 times during his first year in England.
"I was able to adapt quickly to the team and to the Premier League. That was all due to my team-mates, the club and especially the fans," he explained.
“We have had a great season but there is so much more to come from this team. I’ve been told we’ve broken historic records and that’s already an achievement. I’ve also learnt it’s important to respect our progress as an on-going process.
“As for moving to England, my family and I feel we’ve adapted really well to living in Manchester and we haven’t been here for too long, either.
“The staff of the club and my team-mates have been very supportive, especially Pablo Zabaleta, who has been here for quite a while. Everyone has made us feel like home. We still would like to know the city better and maybe visit the outskirts more, but we don’t have too much free time on our hands." |
