Tevez & Kompany in line to start for Manchester City against Sunderland

The duo are expected to start Saturday's clash at Etihad Stadium, with the Argentine likely to replace Balotelli who has infuriated manager Roberto Mancini

Carlos Tevez and Vincent Kompany are in line to start in Manchester City’s crucial Premier League clash against Sunderland on Saturday, Goal.com can reveal.

Tevez played and scored for the reserves in a 6-1 win at Morecambe on Wednesday night and is now considered to be sharp enough to start for the first-team having featured as a substitute in the last two matches.

The 28-year-old returned to action earlier this month following a six-month absence after he fell out with manager Roberto Mancini, and has impressed City’s coaching staff since returning to Manchester.

While the majority of the squad were given two days off at the start of the week, Tevez stayed behind for extra training and hugely impressed with his work ethic.

He is likely to replace Mario Balotelli in the side after the Italian enraged Mancini by gatecrashing an Inter Milan press conference on Tuesday.

Balotelli had been told to keep a low profile during his time off and the furious City boss told the striker to train alone on Wednesday.

As City look to put pressure on Premier League leaders Manchester United, they have also been given a massive boost by the anticipated return of club captain Kompany after three weeks out with a calf injury.

The Belgian defender spent the early part of the week in Italy receiving intensive treatment and was fit enough to take part in full training with the rest of the squad on Wednesday.

Injury-plagued midfielder Owen Hargreaves also played in the reserve game at Morecambe but is unlikely to play for City in the title run-in.

Mancini’s side currently sit three points behind United but could draw level with victory over Sunderland ahead of their rivals’ trip to Blackburn on Monday night.

City Linked With Falcao

Manchester City are planning a move for Atletico Madrid striker Radamel Falcao, according to The Sun.

Atletico bought the Colombian hit-man from FC Porto as a replacement for City-bound Sergio Aguero; Falcao has hit 25 goals in 36 games so far this season and is now being linked with a move to the Etihad.

City boss Roberto Mancini wants Falcao as a replacement for Edin Dzeko who is reportedly set to leave the club this summer and The Sun reports that talks have already begun with Falcao’s agent Jorge Mendes.

The Colombia international’s move to Atletico last summer went down badly in his homeland where it was believed he had taken a backward step moving to a side never likely to challenge for La Liga in Spain while making do with Europa League football instead of the Champions League.

Falcao was linked with a move to Chelsea when Andre Villas-Boas left Porto for Stamford Bridge but the Blues baulked at paying the £34million release clause in his contract. When City shelled out £38million for Aguero, Atletico used the money to buy Falcao out of his contract but the feeling in Colombia was that he should have waited for a move to a bigger club.

Chelsea are still believed to be keen on Falcao despite Villas-Boas’s departure.

‘Lawan sampai habis’

Recent experiences will make Man City’s Hart a better player – Villa’s Given

Aston Villa goalkeeper Shay Given is backing his Manchester City counterpart Joe Hart to keep progressing into a world class player.

The 24-year old England gloveman has emerged into one of the best shot-stoppers in the Premier League this season and with Champions League experience this term and Euro2012 coming up, Given can only see him getting better.

""Joe has done really well for the last four or five seasons,” Given said at the Soccerex conference in Manchester. "

"He is at a fantastic club, with some of the best players in the world. And Joe is one of them.

"But the thing is, he is still very young. In goalkeeping terms he has got years ahead of him.

"This year he played in the Champions League, which he hasn't done before, and in the summer he will play in a European Championships, which he hadn't done before.

"That will help him improve. You can't buy experience and the more he plays the more he will gain."

Roberto Mancini targets Tottenham's Luka Modric

Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini has said he would jump at the chance to sign Luka Modric - but admits it is "unlikely" Spurs will allow the Croatian to leave.

Modric is one of the most highly-rated midfielders in the Premier League - linked with both Manchester United and Chelsea last summer, much to Harry Redknapp's annoyance.

And the 26 year-old has once again shone this season as Spurs push for the coveted fourth Champions League spot.

Mancini, with practically unlimited funds at his disposal, will look to strengthen his side when the next transfer window opens, and the Italian has revealed that Modric is top of his wish list.

The City manager already has a wealth of talent in midfield at the Etihad Stadium with David Silva, Samir Nasri and Yaya Toure, and he said: "Luka Modric is an outstanding footballer, a great player. He is definitely one of the best in the Premier League.

"It is by no means easy to get him because he plays for a big club, Tottenham. It is unlikely that they would let him leave.

"We are lucky to have another great player from these parts in Edin Dzeko.

"I have worked with quite a few players from these parts - not just Croatians, but Bosnians, Serbs and Montenegrins.

"I have many friends among them and I am very proud of it.

"They are really something special and they mostly play with invention and creativity."

Gossip: Manchester City linked with £80m Cristiano Ronaldo swoop

March 30, 2012

Real Madrid winger Cristiano Ronaldo

Manchester City have been linked with a sensational move for Real Madrid ace Cristiano Ronaldo.

Reports on website goal.com suggest the Blues are preparing a staggering £80m deal worth up to £500,000 per week to the player.

City have history of going for the world's most expensive players - they came close to landing Brazil midfielder Kaka from AC Milan three years ago in a deal valued at around £90m.

Ronaldo, 27, joined Real Madrid from Manchester United back in 2009 for £80m.

BREAKING NEWS: Mancini reveals Aguero sidelined for two weeks with 'stupid' injury

Italian manager will be without his top goalscorer for the visit of Sunderland to Eastlands on Saturday, with Carlos Tevez now likely to start for the first time since his return

Mar 30, 2012 10:38:00 AM
By Andrew Kennedy

Manchetser City manager Roberto Mancini has revealed that Sergio Aguero will miss Saturday's Premier League clash with Sunderland due to a "stupid" injury.

The Argentine forward is likely to be ruled out for up to two weeks, meaning fellow countryman Carlos Tevez could be handed a starting berth for the first time since his return to Eastlands last month.

While Mancini did not reveal the nature of the problem when pressed, he did say it was a "stupid injury" and a "stupid situation".

Aguero has been a key player for City this campaign as they go in search of the their maiden Premier League title, with the former Atletico Madrid man the club's top scorer in his first season in English football.

Rivals Manchester United pulled three points clear in the title race last weekend, and with Sir Alex Ferguson's men not in action until Monday night against Blackburn, victory over Sunderland would see Mancini's men return to the top of the table for at least 48 hours.
