Ze Roberto Looks To Life After Football
Bayern Munich’s Ze Roberto has hinted on what he hopes to do when his football career comes to an end, in a recent interview with Sport Bild…
The Brazilian midfielder Ze Roberto currently plies his trade with the German outfit Bayern Munich, in the Bundesliga. He has spent some seven years at the club, since moving there from Bayer Leverkusen in 2002.
The 34-year-old devout Christian has recently taken part in an interview with the magazine Sport Bild, and discussed his desires for life after football.
He made reference to the fact that he would love to preach one day, as well as study theology, to help him with his cause.
“I can only imagine how good it would be to be a preacher,” the Brazilian said.
“I will most likely study theology for 4 years, which would be a rewarding experience for me, and for my family,” he added.
Ze Roberto, who has been strongly linked with many top clubs in Italy and Spain throughout his career, only managed to play for Real Madrid, where he made 15 appearances in the one season, back in 1997/98.
He is a fantastic player nonetheless, and seems to be a great human being.
He concluded the interview by saying that, “religion is very important to me, and it is a fundamental aspect of my life.” |

Bayern Asked About Frey - Ribéry
Bayern Munich star Franck Ribery has revealed the Bundesliga club have asked him about Sebastien Frey with a keen interest in signing the Fiorentina goalkeeper...
Frey has been outstanding for the Viola and he showed his brilliance during the 1-1 draw with Bayern at the Artemio Franchi a fortnight ago.
His superb form in goal has raised eyebrows in Bavaria and Ribéry has now confirmed the interest.
"Bayern's directors have spoken to me about Frey and they have asked me about him but they didn't make it 100 percent clear if they wanted him," Ribéry is quoted as saying by Fiorentinanews.com.
"I would tell them to make an attempt because Seba is one of the strongest goalkeepers and he is ready for all the big competitions."
Despite Ribery's plea, Fiorentina are unlikely to put their prized asset on the market.
The Tuscan-based club have only recently extended the 'keeper's contract. His new deal expires in 2013, and he has been at the club since 2005.
The Viola have struggled at times this term but the Frenchman has been a rock in between the sticks, resulting in his being voted 'Serie A Goalkeeper of the Season' by Goal.com readers in 2007-08. |

Brilliant Bayern breeze into last 16
Match report by Gavin Jackson from Fußball Arena München
Miroslav Klose celebrates scoring for Bayern (©Getty Images)
Twosecond-half goals from Miroslav Klose and another from Luca Toniensured FC Bayern München marched triumphantly into the UEFA ChampionsLeague knockout stages with an emphatic victory against FC SteauaBucureşti.
Unbeaten run
Though OlympiqueLyonnais' defeat of ACF Fiorentina in the night's other Group F fixturemeant Bayern would have progressed regardless of their result, theGerman champions never looked as if they would need a helping hand. After a frustrating first half, Klose finally broke the deadlock threeminutes before the hour and Toni swiftly dived to head in another,Klose rounding off an impressive display with a third goal 19 minutesfrom time to continue the home team's unbeaten run in this season'scompetition and send them into the last 16 for a fifth successive UEFAChampions League campaign.
Bayern determination
WithJürgen Klinsmann prowling the technical area from kick-off, there was aclear sense of Bayern's determination to ensure they would decide theirown destiny. Robinson Zapata was called upon to block Toni'spoint-blank effort three minutes in, while the Italian was unlucky tosee a clean strike from Franck Ribéry's low cross skid just wide sixminutes later. The German titleholders' fluidity – borne of theconfidence built by an eleven-game unbeaten run – was stretchingSteaua, though Dayro Moreno did conjure a long-range shot that spedinto the midriff of Bayern goalkeeper Michael Rensing.
Klose close
Releasedby Bănel Nicoliţă down the right, the Colombian midfielder then fedSteaua captain Mirel Rădoi, whose acrobatic volley missed the target. That scare sparked an instant Bayern riposte, Toni's header from aRibéry cross being parried by the alert Zapata and a lunging Kloseturning the rebound over. Nicoliţă's busy presence on the right gaveBayern cause for concern though, and the Romanian international pickedout Dorin Goian with a cross, but the defender failed to get sufficientpower on his shot.
Two-goal burst
Slottinginto central defence in place of the injured Martín Demichelis, DanielVan Buyten almost presented Steaua with an opening when a ballricocheted off his knee, allowing Nicoliţă to send in a dangerous crossthat Lucio hacked clear. Bayern, though, continued to threaten at theother end, and two goals in four minutes took the game away fromSteaua. Zé Roberto burst to the left-hand byline, and though his centrewas miscued by Toni, Massimo Oddo picked up the loose ball on theopposite flank, crossing for Ribéry to head goalwards and Klose swoopedto score. The Germany striker then turned provider, cleverly flickingLucio's raking ball towards Toni, who collided with Zapata as hebravely dived to head in.
Final flourish
WithSteaua pushing up looking for a goal to bring them back into thecontest, Klose then delivered the finishing touch. Ribéry sped down theright, and with the visitors' defence spread, found Klose in space. Alow finish left Zapata helpless and means Steaua must now beatFiorentina in their final fixture to claim third in the section, whileBayern travel to Lyon on Matchday 6 to determine who wins the section. |
