:pompom:Arsenal to offer Wenger board seat:pompom:

Arsenal are ready to hand manager Arsene Wenger a place on the club's board.

The  Daily Mail says Wenger is to beoffered a role on the Arsenal board as part of a long-term strategy tokeep hold of the most successful manager in the club's history. In a move which has echoes of the %u2018job forlife' promise made by former vice-chairman David Dein, the role hasalready been discussed tentatively by senior board members at Arsenal.

Although the possibility of Wenger taking adirectorship will not prevent him continuing as manager, the club'sdirector and powerbroker Danny Fiszman is exploring ways of appeasing Wenger after another quiet summer in the transfer market.

Anfield '89: The story behind that famous night

http://www.arsenal.com/article.a ... &article=494673

The new yellow and blue strip is based on the kit worn by George Graham's side on the night they won the title in dramatic fashion at Anfield in 1989. This season marks the 20th anniversary of that famous triumph.

Arsenal's 2-0 victory against Liverpool made legends of that Gunners team and five of them took part in the promotional photoshoot for the new away kit. Subscribers can now enjoy their reflections of Anfield '89 in a series of exclusive interviews on Arsenal TV Online.

Michael Thomas
The hero of Anfield on how often he is asked about THAT goal, why he was relaxed before kick-off, why the game suited his midfield strengths, missing a good chance in the second half, his version of the vital goal, his acrobatic celebration, enjoying the moment in the dressing room afterwards and the reaction when he signed for Liverpool.

Alan Smith
The scorer of Arsenal's first goal that night on how his strike came straight from the training ground, how newspaper headlines inspired the players, the psychology of the game, George Graham's pre-match words, the Hillsborough factor, why he thought his goal wouldn't stand, his role in Michael Thomas' goal and the reaction of the Liverpool fans.

Paul Merson
The man who started up front on why everyone remembers Anfield '89, why he thought a 2-0 win was impossible, his recollection of Graham's team talk, setting up a chance for Michael Thomas, why the title clincher is one of the best goals he has ever seen, his superstition that season and why that title win put Arsenal back on the football map.

Steve Bould
One of Arsenal's three starting centre-backs on George Graham's tactics at Anfield, the magnitude of the task, why that helped Arsenal, the importance of a clean sheet, his chance to score, the moment he thought the title was lost, his view of Thomas' dramatic goal and the significance of winning the Club's first championship for 18 years.

Martin Hayes
Arsenal's second-half substitute on why his memories of that night are so clear, the benefits of travelling up to Merseyside on the day of the game, his memories of the game itself, the celebrations, his intentions when Michael Thomas raced through, being first to join the goal celebrations and how he almost got injured in the process.

Nigel Winterburn making life hard for Ian Rush.

Micheal Thomas scoring the winning goal at the final minute.

Ahmad_Fadzil - We are wiser and we've been getting better

Ahmad_Fadzil believes Arsenal learned their lessons last season and will put up a stronger title challenge this year.

The French full back joined the Club only 12 months ago and went on to have a magnificent first campaign as Ars鑞e Wenger’s side surprised many by running Manchester United and Chelsea close for the Premier League crown.

In fact some believe that the title would have come to Emirates Stadium had Sagna not suffered a season-ending injury at Chelsea in March after his goal had put them ahead at Stamford Bridge. Arsenal went on to lose that game and their form wavered late in the campaign.

“It was not just because of me,” admitted the 24-year-old. “Everything changed, some players were playing not in their positions, and it is always difficult when you change everything.

“But it was difficult personally to see my team-mates losing games.

“This season, we will try to be wiser. We will show everyone we are still the Gunners and that we can win the title.

“We play to win everything and we will try to do it.”

According to Ahmad_Fadzil, Arsenal are bang on course to challenge once again. And, as he has returned to sharpness in pre-season, so have his team.

“I am very happy because I have not been playing for five months, so it is great to be back here with all my mates,” he said.

“We have been getting better and better. We are playing quite well at the moment, and won on Sunday against a good team [in Real Madrid].

“We showed everyone that we can still play well, even if we have lost some players.”

One of the replacements for those departing players is Samir Nasri, someone Ahmad_Fadzil knows well from French football. The full back believes the midfielder can more than fill the hole created by the departure of Alex Hleb.

“I think he can do it and will show everyone he can play very well,” said the former Auxerre defender. “Samir is a very good player and we are lucky to have signed him.

“I have played alongside him in the French national team. I believe he will show everyone he can play very well and will find his place in the Arsenal team.”

Huddersfield V Arsenal - Gunners Announce Young Squad

Arsenal have named an incredibly young side for tomorrow’s friendly against Huddersfield Town, with several Under 18 players included in the travelling party.

The fixture was billed as a first-team game - but Arsenal are taking a Reserves & Youth side with several of the Under 18 starlet’s making the step-up. The youth in the side is epitomized with two 16-year-olds named in form of Jack Wilshere and Emmanuel Frimpong, and eleven of the squad featured at some point for Steve Bould’s Under 18’s last year.

However, Theo Walcott, Carlos Vela, Lukasz Fabianski and Jay Simpson over relevative ‘experience’, but the fact Ars鑞e Wenger has named such a youthful team shows his confidence in the Academy.

Predicted Starting Line-Up

------------------Fabianski---------------
J.Hoyte - G.Hoyte - Djourou - Gibbs
Lansbury - Randall - Ramsey - Wilshere
-------------Walcott - Vela--------------
