Hunting case against Salman reopened in Gujarat

Bollywood actor, Salman Khan who has been convicted and sentenced to jail in two poaching cases, has landed in a fresh trouble with the Gujarat criminal investigation department today reopening a case against him for allegedly killing a chinkara in the Kutch district of Gujarat in 1998.Just two days back, a court in Rajasthan had framed charges against Salman for allegedly hunting a blackbuck in Kankani village in October 1998.

In the Chinkara case, the Gujarat forest department had earlier conducted preliminary investigations and closed the matter for want of evidence.

However, now the case is being reopened and fresh probe will be conducted, said the Kutch CID inspector, Mr B B Jhala.

Salman was allegedly accused of killing two chinkaras in the Sumsara village of Kutch district, while he was shooting for the film Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam.

The case was reopened following an application given by a non-governmental organisation working in the field of wildlife.

Producer Nazim Rizvi is back. The man who was in the news (and in jail) along with film financier Bharat Shah for using underworld don Chhota Shakeel's money and threatening actors during the making of Chori Chori Chupke Chupke, is back in business.  He is making a realistic film based on his prison term.

Rizvi was arrested on December 13, 2003, and released on bail on December 26, 2003. He was convicted by the MCOCA court, against which he went in appeal to the High Court. The matter is still pending, meanwhile he is out on bail.

He is making two films now. One of the films, titled Undertrial, is based around Rajpal Yadav who plays a man falsely implicated of raping his three daughters. Clearly, Nazim has avoided being projected as the central character. Mukesh Rishi plays the role of Nadir here, based on Nazim's character, who has been framed in another case.

Bollywood's much talked about duo Shahid Kapur and Kareena Kapoor are back from their whirlwind Rock Star concert tour to concentrate on their respective acting careers.

If Kareena is looking forward to the release of Vishal Bhardwaj's "Omkara", Shahid is hearing scripts and trying to pick up the right roles for himself.

Since Bollywood stars get addicted to enjoying honor and glory in India, they anticipate the same treatment during their visit abroad. When they fail to attract big crowds around them, they turn crazy. Incidentally, this happened during the recent visit of our two stars - Karan Johar and Preity Zinta at the Cannes Film Festival. No sooner they finished their interviews with various local channels in Paris than Bollywood stars thought that the Cannes crowd would recognize them and allow them entry inside the theater. However, the guards on duty wouldn't oblige unless they produced their identity cards. This was a great shock for our stars.

Actor Arjun Rampal has ventured into film production. He will soon produce his debut ' I See You'. Arjun will act too in his production in the lead role. But he has signed Vivek Aggarwal as debut director for his debut production. However, Vivek isn't new to direction inasmuch as he has already assisted Bollywood directors in the past. Both Arjun and Vivek are banking on their debut movie. Vivek doesn't know who will be the heroine opposite Arjun though. Both are looking forward for one who can help them hit the box office.

AMRITA QUITS BAHRI'S MOVIE

Relations between a brother-in-law and his sister-in-law have been a talk of the town since ages. A recent incident in Bollywood has brought it again in the limelight. Lately, Amrita Arora quit Deepak Bahri's movie on this count. Bahri had signed her to picturise certain sexy scenes on her with her brother-in-law Arbaaz Khan. The latter is married to Amrita's sister Mallaika Arora.

Amrita didn't like to play sexy scenes with her brother-in-law, presumably because of the old saying " Saali is aadhi gharwali" (A sister-in-law is just like a half wife!). The incident has shocked Arbaaz Khan though. Incidentally, Amrita Arora who has been brought up in the lap of Sanjay Dutt, did not mind pairing with Sanjay Dutt in their 'Jodi No 1'. Industry circles wonder why Amrita chose to quit Bahri's movie starring Arbaaz Khan when she could do romantic scenes with Sanjay Dutt.

Interestingly, Amrita Arora has just returned from London. Though she claims to have had a ball shopping there, in fact, she traveled there to watch Usman play cricket. "It was fun to watch a cricket match there." 'Films, if at all, has to be with Sanjay Dutt'

What made you take up modelling?

Modelling started as a part-time career for me. Flying was my first profession. I did modelling in my off days. Later on, I came to India for a vacation and signed up with a model management agency in Delhi.

It was a turning point in my life. Slowly modelling started picking up and I had to make a choice. I decided to stick to modelling.

I believe you have been chosen as one of the top models at Shanghai, a place which is not generally associated with fashion.. .

Yes, I was the first runner-up at the Shanghai International models contest. It was organised by the Fashion Week committee of China. After winning the contest, I got signed up with a model management firm in Shanghai.

China is far ahead in terms of fashion than we usually think it to be. All international brands have a strong presence there. I did shows for reputed brands and shot for international fashion magazines as well.

It has been quite a journey

KUANTAN (Pahang) - Teka-teki mengenai hubungan penyanyi Malaysia, Siti Nurhaliza, dengan ahli perniagaan, Datuk Khalid Mohd Jiwa, atau yang dikenali sebagai 'Datuk K', bakal terjawab tidak lama lagi.

'Saya akan membuat pengumuman pada awal Julai,' katanya selepas dipujuk wartawan di akhir mesyuarakat agung tahunan (AGM) Pasdec Holdings Bhd kelmarin.

Datuk Khalid, 47 tahun, merupakan pengarah bukan eksekutif syarikat itu.

Sebelum itu, pihak media melaporkan perkahwinan antara Siti, 27 tahun, dengan Datuk Khalid akan berlangsung pada 8 Ogos ini.

Apabila ditanya sama ada beliau sedang membuat persiapan secara besar-besaran bagi majlis itu, Datuk Khalid, dengan tersenyum lebar berkata:

'Saya akan memaklumkan anda apabila masanya tepat. Saya telah memaklumkan bos anda perkara yang sama apabila beliau menghubungi saya. Buat masa ini, tiada apa lagi yang boleh saya katakan.'

Apabila Datuk Khalid sedang keluar dari sebuah restoran di Hotel Hyatt Regency selepas AGM itu, Menteri Besar, Datuk Seri Adnan Yaakob, yang mengiringinya sempat berkata:

'Silakan dan beritahulah ceritanya. Sila kan.'

Datuk Khalid tetap enggan berganjak apabila diminta wartawan agar segera membersihkan namanya jika beliau be nar-benar bukan lelaki pilihan Siti.

'Seperti saya katakan sebelum ini, saya tidak ada apa-apa yang hendak ditambah,' katanya.

Menyentuh mengenai perceraiannya dengan Tengku Zawyah Tengku Izham, 43 tahun, Datuk Khalid berkata ia masih dalam proses.

Datuk Khalid dan Tengku Zawyah telah dikurniakan empat orang anak berusia antara lapan tahun dengan 19 tahun. - The Star.

SONY BMG DIPERINTAH BAYAR AMY SEARCH RM2J
KUALA LUMPUR - Mahkamah Tinggi Malaysia di sini kelmarin memerintahkan Sony BMG Music Entertainment (M) Sdn Bhd membayar ganti rugi RM2 juta ($871,789) kepada penyanyi rok, Amy Search, kerana melanggar kontrak lapan tahun lalu.

Hakim Datuk Mohd Hishamudin Mohd Yunus membuat keputusan itu selepas mendapati Sony BMG (dulu dikenali sebagai Sony Music Entertainment (M) Sdn Bhd) memungkiri perjanjian yang ditandatangani dengan Art-Is At Work Sdn Bhd (AIAW), syarikat milik Amy pada 6 Mei 1998.

Dalam penghakimannya, beliau berkata mahkamah mendapati perjanjian pengedaran bersyarat (PDA) yang ditandatangani kedua-dua pihak adalah sah.

'Mahkamah juga memutuskan defendan (Sony BMG) tiada alasan sah untuk menamatkan perjanjian itu. Sehubungan itu, mahkamah membuat keputusan memberikan penghakiman kepada plaintif dengan kos.

'Oleh demikian, defendan diperintah membayar ganti rugi RM2 juta bagi perjanjian PDA. Bagaimanapun, RM20,000 akan ditolak daripada jumlah itu kerana defendan sudah membayar wang pendahuluan kepada plaintif.

'Selain daripada itu, defendan dikehendaki membayar ganti rugi khas RM42,000 kepada plaintif bagi penyediaan perjanjian induk dan mahkamah juga menolak tuntutan balas defendan,' katanya.

Amy, yang bersyukur dan menyifatkan keputusan itu sebagai kemenangan buat dirinya, menasihati artis supaya mendapatkan khidmat peguam untuk menyelesaikan masalah yang membabitkan undang-undang.

'Jangan terburu-buru membuat sidang akhbar. Masalah akan timbul jika mereka tidak tahu hak mereka, terutama apabila membabitkan hasil kerja milik artis berkenaan,' katanya. - BHM.
