I’m glad Ferrari lost, says Mosley
Former FIA President Max Mosley has said it was a blessing Fernando Alonso and Ferrari missed out on winning the Drivers’ title this season, as it would have just once again brought up the whole discussion of the rights and wrongs of team orders.
Despite going into the final round in the Abu Dhabi as the title leader and the favourite to clinch the crown, Alonso eventually lost out to Sebastian Vettel after a nightmare race, in which he got stuck behind Vitaly Petrov and only finished seventh.
Given what happened at Hockenheim though, when Felipe Massa was ordered to let the Spaniard through to win, Max wasn’t sad to see the Scuderia mess it up.
“Ferrari did do an outstanding job from the middle of the season. It looked like they were almost out of it, but they brought themselves back into play. But in the end I am nevertheless glad that didn’t win it,” Mosley told Die Welt.
"It would have given the world an unpleasant discussion give how they would have taken the title and the topic of team orders would have come up again. I doubt whether that would have been good for F1.
“It took that topic off the table and the question whether they would have really earned it. Instead, thank god, we are talking about a strategic error in that last race. That is one less problem for Formula 1.
“[Besides] Sebastian Vettel earned it and in every respect is an excellent World Champion.
"He has a pleasant personality and is relaxed and natural. That is great for the public and very good for our sport.”

Alonso ready to take on Vettel at Ferrari
Fernando Alonso has said he wouldn't have any problems with Sebastian Vettel joining the Ferrari Formula 1 team one day. Ferrari president Luca di Montezemolo has said last week he expects the German F1 champion to race for Ferrari one day.
Speaking to the Spanish media Fernando Alonso said: “I don't fear Sebastian (Vettel). I wouldn't mind it at all if he would join the Ferrari team one day and become a team-mate. I am not afraid to battle with any team-mate. No team-mate has ever scored more points than I have in a Formula 1 season so I don't see why I should fear anyone who would become my team-mate.” |

'I'm not afraid of Vettel' - Alonso
Fernando Alonso has responded to comments that Luca di Montezemolo made earlier last week when he claimed Sebastian Vettel would one day drive for Ferrari.
"I'm not afraid of Vettel," he said. "Should he come to Ferrari one day it won't be a problem, I have nothing to say on the matter. I'm not afraid to face any team-mate, I've never feared any of them.
"None of my team-mates have ever finished a season with more points than I have, so I don't see why I should be afraid of anyone."
He added he was confident Ferrari would compete with Red Bull and McLaren in 2011. "I have no doubts that next year Ferrari will build the car that I want."
